Michigan State University (MSUCOM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's already been stated in this thread, but the school has been having difficulties download letters from AACOMAS. They sent an email a few weeks back stating it is probably in your best interest to go through Interfolio. I wouldn't waste time waiting around for them to fix it. Interfolio is much faster at this point. Use the code "MLA2015" for a free year of Dossier (once you register at the site). I think it was $6.00 to send to MSUCOM electronically. It updates within a few days and you will be complete. Good luck!

Stupid me.... I already am using Interfolio but I had forgotten to manually have Interfolio send the LORs to MSUCOM (I just assumed they'd somehow know....). However, to whoever is having this problem and needs to switch over to Interfolio, I just sent my LORs via Interfolio last night and as of today, they are all received by the MSUCOM secondary.

Maybe someone on the inside might have an idea! @SpartanWolverine ?
That's a good question to ask someone in admissions, since I don't know if I'm allowed to share that information (plus I only know a rough estimate!).

However, since you can pretty safely assume that most schools interview around 8-12% of the verified applicant pool and/or at least a couple times their class size, that might give you a good idea that there are going to be quite a few. 🙂

My first II!!! Uh oh, I only have a lighter gray suit should I go buy something different? Or do you guys think that I could dress it up with a nice darker colored blouse?

Some time earlier this afternoon not sure of the exact time

Super weird question, but does anyone know how facial hair would be viewed at an interview? I have heard from some people that the adcoms like people clean-shaven, but I look like a 12 year old with my face shaved...lol

I've always heard when in doubt shave. It sucks because I prefer to have facial hair as well lol

I'm so torn about it....I feel like I look much better with facial hair but I know some of the adcoms are old fashioned and may look at it as not caring about the interview.

The answer is almost invariably to shave, even if it makes you look like a 12 year old. Unless you have a religious reason for not doing it, you don't want to give them a reason to think you don't care about your professional appearance.

just received an II. scheduled 9/11

submitted 7/3
complete 7/30

@LgZach21 submitted 7/6 completed 7/29. 3.3/3.4 GPA 28 MCAT, lots of ECs, couple years of Leadership/clinical work, DO letter.

Anyone knows whats up with the LOR?

If you do not see your letter below, be sure to select the appropriate AACOMAS ID for the 2016 (XXXXXXX2016) application cycle when you submit your letter in Interfolio.

Do they want me to add a 2016 behind my CAS ID?

haha so I'm guessing they haven't gotten to the people who were completed 8/6 and beyond...or at least I hope 🤣

hahah the process is so random. I just don't want to have silent rejections from every school

Got a confirmation email for my interview this morning. I am so excited for this school and equally nervous for this interview! MMI kinda scares me.... lol
Just got the confirmation as well. I feel the same way! It is their first time doing interviews so I'm sure they are nervous and unsure too. It is a much shorter interview day than a lot of schools though!

I hear you! It'll be my first MMI, so not totally sure of what to expect. I'm equally nervous and excited for this school. Definitely one of my top choices.

When are you interviewing?
8/21 what about you?

I'm interviewing 8/21! I love this school. It's definitely one of my top choices!

Me too!! 🙂 I'm interviewing on 9/11. I heard from them yesterday and was stoked to get an II from here.

Oh and I think I recognize you from the BCOM thread? haha
Yeah lol....really unsure about that school.

I wonder how long after the interviews they do acceptance/rejections/waitlist? Gosh it would be such a relief for the rest of this app cycle to get a quick acceptance..
I'm guessing 1-2 weeks. Last cycle they sent acceptances out in early September if that means anything since they didn't do interviews then.

If I am lucky enough to be accepted early in the cycle, I'm going to be withdrawing from a lot of other schools 🙂

Hey yall, I have an interview on 8/21 but I'm an out-of-state applicant (Texas), anyone know the percentage for OOS acceptances? 🙂

I thought I saw somewhere that slightly over 90% of students are from MI. Since it is a state funded university they have an in-state bias plus out of state tuition is super high. I'm sure @SpartanWolverine could help clarify.

Yeah I will be withdrawing all of my other DO apps. 👍 fingers crosseddd

You got it. Along with the 25 Canadian students I believe there are usually somewhere around 25 OOS students as well. So, unfortunately, a lot of great OOS applicants don't make the cut. I don't know specific percentages though, sorry!

As @DrPatriot said, make sure you're aware of the tuition difference (double - near $80k for OOS) ... 🙂

Stupid question, but does the MMI style interview only consist of scenario questions? Or is their a traditional interview aspect too where I go over my application/other types of questions relating to my background, why I want to go to the school, etc.

Some schools will have a station where an interviewer will ask a traditional question such as "why DO" or "why X school." Because MSUCOM is doing interviews for the first time this cycle, we don't really know what to expect.

@SpartanWolverine Do you have any idea when they will be sending the first wave of acceptances? Do you think it will be a week after the Aug. 21 interviews or do you think they will wait until the first week of September like they have in the past? Jw which week I should constantly be staring at my phone 😀

Haha sorry, no idea! I wouldn't expect it to be quite so soon after the first interview day... but I have no clue. 😛

Agh!! My secondary is due today (I know I should have submitted it earlier in case of issues like these) and all the save/submit buttons have gone! I tried opening it up in different browser, nothing. It's actually getting worse and the cursor to input text has now disappeared and the pay buttons are gone as well. I currently have 45 min. left but considering it's Saturday, I'm probably SOL. Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

Any advice? (I've already e-mailed admissions.) Luckily, all my prompts are in and saved. I literally just cannot hit submit on the individual pages. 🙁

Don't worry! Just call them first chance you get, explain what happened and they'll open up the application for you. I think you'll get an extra 1-2 weeks

Source: same thing happened to a friend last year!

Secondary submitted! Now we wait for the LORs to be received... :ninja:
