Michigan State University (MSUCOM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I believe they will be comparing previous interviewees with new interviewees. This is standard practice at most medical schools. They accept the standout applicants they absolutely want first, and everyone else is compared to the rest of the interview pool
That's kind of how I took it based on the person's info they received from calling admissions. I don't know why they wouldn't have gotten back to those people who haven't heard yet from the first interview group if they didn't plan on comparing them to this new group.

II this morning! OOS, I'm not sure if I can swing the tuition but really excited to check it out!! September 30th pm session

Congrats! Do you mind mentioning when your secondary was complete?

Some of us heard back within a week from the 8/21 group! Hopefully you'll all get good news and join us at MSU next year. Once you are accepted and are for sure attending PM me and I'll send you the link to the class of 2020 Facebook page! Good luck everyone!

To those of you who got an acceptance right now & are living the dream, what do you do in your free time? It must be pretty awesome having all those months to yourself until June.

I'm just curious lol.

I'm still working. Other than that just hanging out with my family, friends and girlfriend. Just going to take it easy until the fun starts in June!

Also, I'm going to the accepted student tour day this Friday at the DMC and I'm going to go to the EL open house and "See the sites" days as well just for some more info/something to do

Do you happen to know if the visitations to campuses are mandatory, since I am from Texas lol

I am flying into Detroit the day before. Does anyone know the best way to get to East Lansing? Probably just renting a car?

Renting a car is one option, but the Michigan flyer (http://www.michiganflyer.com/) is also great if you don't plan on traveling around too much. I think it's $30 for a one-way ticket and $50 for a round-trip from the airport to East Lansing -- which is really just a bit more than what you'd pay for gas money in a car. They also have WiFi and free water (I think). You'd have to figure out transportation to and from the East Lansing Marriott to Fee Hall, but Uber could help you with that for only a few dollars each way.

I guess I'll see you again on Friday!

II as of this morning (complete Aug 21; Canadian). Can someone tell me at which campus the interviews take place? Can't find it written and it would make the difference between choosing an AM/PM session.

East Lansing

When would it be worthwhile to update my AACOMAS app? I have a small handful of hours from a recent volunteer experience and my hours as a scribe have more than doubled now (you can't update hours, so never mind on the second part). I probably won't update it since the only change would be small.

Does anyone know when the deadline to accept the offer is? I checked the "accept offer" tab but I don't see a date.

I'm wondering this as well. Earlier in the thread said Dec. 4th if you're accepted by Nov. 1st, but if anyone has confirmation of that, it would be nice. From the way it looks, your site preference does not register until you complete all the acceptance material (including deposit).

I checked aacom at the following link:
https://www.aacom.org/docs/default-source/cib/2016_aacomas-instructions.pdf?sfvrsn=6

It says that if accepted prior to 11/14, then the deadline is 12/14. So I guess that is the answer?

You will get a letter in the mail in the next week and half or so that says you have until Dec. 4

hey guys I got an II for MSUCOM... it says the interview will be MMI, but does any one know if there is a traditional part as well? for example, would they still ask the classic "why medicine" or "why msucom" questions? if anyone could help me that would be awesome.

The interview day consists of a MMI, tour, student panel, and presentations by faculty/staff/admin. So there is no traditional interview included in the day per-se. That kind of stuff is more for your secondary. 🙂

However, If you were asking about the types of questions in the MMI, I'm afraid we can't discuss the kinds of things you might see during that.

great, thanks so much!

I got a II today but they only offer two dates to interview and both are not so good for me--is there anyway to call and get another date?
