Michigan State University (MSUCOM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks so much for your prompt reply!!! You give me hope - it's been a difficult summer 🙁
No problem. The DO cycle is much more stretched out than the MD one. You are still golden. Good luck!

did any of you send thank you emails after your interview? thoughts on that?
I like to send a thank you card to my interviewers. But it won't affect your decision either way.

Well, even if you sent a thank you to admissions the interviewers wouldn't get it. They don't have time to forward your message to everyone who took part in your MMI. 🙂 so, like I said, feedback is appreciated but a thank you note is not necessary.

Application complete since mid august and still haven't heard anything back. Is anyone else experiencing a timetable like this? Would it be worth giving admissions a call?

This is very common sadly. Last year I was complete late August and didn't hear back until mid May (waitlisted and didn't make it off).
This year I've been complete since mid July and haven't heard back. I talked to an advisor and she informed me they are meeting more often but the interview process is slowing things down. Expect a long timetable for most....

Did anyone else almost **** when they saw an email from "MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine....." then a sigh relief when "See the Sites Open House"? 🙂

Another open house email!?!? Please stahhpp MSUCOM, please.... Three times you plague my inbox with this treachery. At least the open house is in 3 weeks, at which point I know I will not be receiving any more false hope.

im in the same boat! waiting in this limbo without any sort of confirmation or rejection is not fun!

Haha, yeah it's hard to feel for Mr. "Withdrawing CCOM II before October". Congrats on your Supercycle.
lmao sorry guys, didn't mean to come off like that. Not looking for sympathy. Just saying that in my experience the post-interview anxiety is worse than the pre-II. I really am pulling for you guys!

My guess is at this point you won't hear back until after the next interview group. I could be wrong and it's just a guess. Just based on the last interview group.

Just got a II, they expected me to schedule the interview pretty fast. I'm going from way out of state, so it'll be a long journey. Hopefully they can accomidate my travel time a bit.

the best part was that the dates they offered were Sept 30, and October 8th, but look @ your portal and they have other dates available!

hey guys acceptance call this morning, interviewed 9/30, Canadian

Ha I think I interviewed with you (I think we were the first group of canadians right) Accepted today too. That tuition though............ their 20k scholarship for canadians doesn't even cover the exchange rate right now ugh. Not sure about spending 400k CAD on tuition alone lol

II this morning!! So excited!! What is the best way to get there? Flying in from California.

Do they call people over the course of a few days or are all the calls made on the same day? I'm a little worried since I interviewed on 9/30 too...but they definitely had a lot of interviewees so I don't know if they spread out the acceptance notifications.

They spread them out over a couple of weeks

Hey all, had a few questions..

Do you have to pay the deposit in order to select the site preference and are you allowed to change your site preference? Say I choose DMC now but later on realize I may want to be in EL or Macomb, would that be possible? Can anyone shed some insight on the different site locations. As an OOS, I would be pretty new to all 3 areas and am not really sure which to pick.

Also, does anyone know where to find information on tuition for OOS? I've heard it's pretty high and this one of the only reasons that is holding me back from fully committing here...just wish it wasn't the case. I have family located in Michigan and it would be great to be able to go here.

Thanks in advance!

Yes you have to be accepted and pay your deposit to in order to select your site and receive placement.
You are allowed only one transfer as long as there is a spot available in the campus you are trying to transfer to. (There are never openings at DMC apparently).

OOS tuition and scholarships are presented at the interview day (have you interviewed?). OOS tuition is about $80,000 but they have scholarships to help reduce the cost to about $60,000.

As far as info on each of the sites I would talk to students who attend each one. They all have their own benefits and drawbacks.
@Dr.Jekyll75 is at Macomb
@DaddyBex28 is at DMC
And the great @SpartanWolverine has your EL info

See the Sites is coming up on the 24th if you aren't too far it might be worth coming to check out the DMC and Macomb sites.

Yeah, looked over at the site. Interview scheduled for october 23rd. I'm going all the way from the east coast, and it'll be a long journey. Hopefully it'll all be worth it.

Anyone who's already gotten interviewed, denied, waitlisted, accepted have any idea what the approximate ratio is of those of ACCEPTED/INTERVIEWED?

**Currently re-reading through the whole forum, but just thought I'd ask to save myself time**

At our interview day they said they accept around 450 for a class of 300 and that they expect a lot of wait list movement.

I'm in the same boat! I know they said they take up to a month to reply, but waiting is so hard!

I forget exact numbers, but I remember working them out that they do about 900 interviews from ~6000 applicants. 450 acceptances out of that for a class of 300. She said they have the most mobile waitlist of all Mi schools, and that they would tell you your percentage of coming off (but I haven't heard of anyone getting that info yet)

I had my interview 9/30 and I remember them saying they interview 700 applicants and accept about 300. I do remember her saying because they only accept 300 student, like you said its a mobile waitlist and if someone is in the 1st tier its highly likely that you will get in.

At my interview they said they would interview roughly 900, accepting 450 for a class of 300. Odd
