Mizzou c/o 2017 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Kathy told me last interviews are March 19 (i think) and decisions will be sent out around April 1, just FYI! I know it's a long wait but hang in there, it will come before you know it! 👍

Trying to find housing is kind of a PITA. Sent out a lot of emails, and have been contacted by one person... Who I should add has serious breed restrictions 🙁 even though Danes aren't on the list he said it would likely be a no go 🙁

But, I will shamelessly plug that me and Rainheart may potentially be looking for another roomie... Anyone interested?

I've been having one heck of a time as well! Although I'm moving next month, so at least I can try to hit up the summer sublets! The one person who got back to me had breed restrictions too, I had to convince her my mastiff wasn't mixed with a pit bull...what an interesting mix that would be...

Oh cool, your moving super early!! I wish I was moving sooner but I've gotta work and save some $$$$

Yep, anyone interested in rooming with us contact one of us. I am definitely bringing my wonderful Golden, so I hope you enjoy a happy fluffy dog. 😀

Yah I'm moving early cause I got a job out there. That way I'll have already made the money to become a resident. No way would I have moved if I didn't have work out there!

That's awesome! Man I wish I could do that are you working in a clinic somewhere?

Nope, I got into the Veterinary Research Scholars Program there (http://www.cvm.missouri.edu/vrs/). I'll be working on either Coxiella burnetii pathogenesis or vaccine development against Q fever. I AM SO EXCITED!

Congratulations! I am really jealous! I didn't find out about the program until 2 weeks after the deadline and I still hadn't heard from my IS school at that point, anyway. Grrr.

Well there's always next year! Then you'll get in state residency too! I don't think you missed out on a whole lot!

I know, but it would have been nice not to worry about finding a job to get that in-state residency money that I have to make!

You can do it next summer after first year, that's when the majority of people do it anyway! when youve gotten to know the professors and who you might want your mentor to be, etc.

I too am having a crazy difficult time trying to find a place. On a side note, I'm fostering a dog. This was a bad idea because he and my current dog have bonded and now he's probably part of the family. It's not bad, I guess that's a bad word for the situation, but unexpected. So now I'm going to be moving from south Florida with two dogs and a cat. Yikes!

Dr. Guoquan Zhang...I haven't heard any good or bad things about him at all. Any opinions would be awesome (PM me!). Thanks! Who's yours?

I'm just worried I won't make all the $2000 in the summer- I'd like to work maybe one a week during class just in case. But, even so, I'd prefer to just work over the summer so I can focus solely on classes.

Well, if you get into the VRSP program for next summer, you make more than $2,000 (I think something like $4500). Even if you decide not to do VRSP, $2,000 isn't a whole lot of money, you could very easily make that in a summer! I think even at my minimum wage job I make more than $2,000 in two months, you can do it!

My job at my current vet's office, I think I made about $3000 some dollars during the summer and breaks. So, I am kind of worried that I'll only have 3 weeks. My vet's office is really cheap and I don't even make double digits yet an hour and I've been there over 5 years.

Summer is like 6 weeks, so $2000 is pretty reasonable, especially since it sounds like the $2000 only has to be earned income, not net pay, which is probably what you look at more on your paystubs (I know I do at least).
The summer research thing is $3600 this summer for MU students.

Never heard of him! I'm not doing it but a bunch of my friends are!

there are a lot of jobs that will come up at the school that you can do, too just FYI, but if you arent terribly concerned about having a ton of free time or getting involved in a ton of extracurriculars then I think managing a very part time job is doable, depending on how school is going.

Still debating with myself, but thanks all for the advice. I am relieved to hear that it is not net pay that is being counted, so that will help!

no you are right! $2000 before taxes 👍

ohhh YEAAA (HAPPY DANCE) :soexcited:

Hey Krist- is it possible to get a job in the teaching hospital Before classes start?

umm not to my knowledge except for the clin path lab job which you will get an email about in the summer. Then once you start school you can apply for the after hours clinic crew to work in the ICU, they start taking applications for that right around the time school starts. Those are the only jobs that I can think of ATM

What do you mean?

Ohio State explicitly said that you can't have any financial support from anyone outside of Ohio (so parents/aunts/whoever can't chip in for tuition or a bit of rent or anything). Don't remember hearing anything about Mizzou like that, but just want to make sure.

just checked the website. this is not mentioned anywhere! I guess I got it mixed up the it was Ohio that required this, but not Miz!

good! glad you're finding the same info as me.

also, my understanding is that support from people out-of-state is okay and won't hurt getting residency, right?

I started worrying about that too, so I emailed the residency folks to confirm. I'll let you all know when I hear back.

It shouldn't matter if you are getting support from people out of state. My husband got residency a few years ago while getting support from his parents in another state.

Awesome!!! Where did you put in your application?

My love for Mizzou was reinforced last night at the Men's SEC basketball tournament!! We sat in a section full of Mizzou fans, it was INCREDIBLE! I can't wait to be an official student at Mizz!

A place over by the mall that's through Jacob's Realty.

In state interviews are officially complete I believe.

I have to say, I believe mine went really well. I don't yet have the feeling that I said anything stupid, which was not true after my other interviews😀 :xf:

called Kathy today and she said my deposit has been received! yay. so it wasn't a mistake!

also, she is so freakin' pleasant to talk to on the phone and in person every time I've had a question. so refreshing.

Box of Mizzou apparel should be arriving today 😀 I'm super stoked . Last week My mom ordered me a sweater type shirt and it is the most awkward shape/ fit.. It's super long and kinda has a boat neck. It just fits weird. I'm pretty sad about it bc it's super cute!! I hope the stuff I ordered isn't as wacky as that shirt.

Declining my OOS offer today... Fingers crossed for those of you on the wait list!
