New York COM (NYIT-COM) Discussion Thread 2014 - 2015

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you're instate you may be fine, although that MCAT is very low. If you're out of state you may have to retake the mcat and do the equivalent of a 28

My stats are 30 mcat, 3.5 overall, 3.3 science and I'm still waiting to hear back

Thanks for the input! I'm going to apply broadly, but thought I'd see if there's any shot-at least at an interview-no matter how small, as NYITCOM is one of my top choices.
You've got some solid stats. Best of luck. Hopefully you'll get some good news soon!

Apply early, and you have a good shot. There are others with similar MCATs and lower GPAs that have been interviewed. Applying early shows your biggest interest in the school by far, as well as being IS. Good luck! If you have any kind of clinical/research that helps as well.

Go for it! The only way to guarantee not getting accepted is to not apply. I agree with the above comments, but your GPA is very good and there are plenty of other things on your application that you didn't mention. Still, its gonna be an upward battle with a 25, but if you can afford it, do it. Apply as early as possible and your chances are much better. Good Luck!

By the way, can someone confirm that they will be posting on here immediately if they hear back regarding a final decision, and with the date they interviewed?

I'm nervous that Murphy's law will surely come into play and USPS will lose all letters in the mail, as well as my internet going out, and my cell phone service going down the drain.

I called today and was told that there was no decision for me yet (4th week February). Gotta say this is stressful going into the sixth week post interview, but we all got this. Not bad news yet and hopefully it's just admissions enjoying their holiday break. It's gotta be crazy busy on their end.

I will definitely let everyone know if I get accepted or waitlisted though. Do not want to post stats yet, but I will upon a decision being made. I just have a semi-unique set of stats unfortunately.

I am in the exact same situation. I interviewed in the 4th week of February and there was no decision for me either. The admissions committee must not have met in a very long time...

Can anyone who goes here let me know what they like about it? I'm asking this a little late since my interview is tomorrow but oh well

How full is the class? This wait isn't fun. I just hope we aren't interviewing for the waitlist.

No interviewees got rejected or waitlisted, as of now.

Are you referring to the ones that have Interviewed up to this date? Or are you referring to those that have heard back and posted in this thread?

Anyone able to view bills? I got email bill was ready but couldn't view it online

Has anyone already called them and asked about their Feb/March interviews or when the admissions committee plans on meeting again?

Just got an interview yesterday! What do you think the chances are that I'm not interviewing for the waitlist??

I unfortunately haven't received responses from them via email. And yeah I sent it to the email address you mentioned. I think (or hope) it just goes into my folder for review...

i got a confirmation message from them today confirming that they received my updates. did you get one yet? if not, email them again, maybe it didn't go through the first time.

I applied back in October, no word... boosted my MCAT 5 points in January... any chances there are still interview invites going out? Suggestions on sending a letter of continued interest?

i don't think it's a bad idea. do you they know about this MCAT score? you could email them and tell them about that, and about how you're very interested and looking forward to an interview invite.

FYI, the entire COM just came back from their spring break this week

I called the school yesterday afternoon and no decision has been made yet for those that interviewed the last week of Feb/first week of March. The person I spoke with was apologetic and said that they were doing their best to get the decisions made this week and to expect a response next week. With that said he couldn't make any guarantees, but he said that was what they were hoping for. Just to update those of you waiting .... like myself. But no need to assume that we are waitlisted or rejected just because of the delay... that is not true at all. The decisions have not even been made at this time. 😀

Thanks for doing that 🙂)) it's nice to hear some news lol

Thank you for this. So I assume folks who interviewed the second week of March will hear back after, by the 6th week...or maybe at the same time?

I think you will be at least that long. The batch up next is last week of February/first week of March, but the second and third week of February heard back like two weeks ago, almost three so ... There is really no way of knowing I guess unless they group more together for this batch coming up, but that hasn't seemed to ever happen before.

This is coming from the master of predictions, as in I thought that the 4th week of February would hear back "anytime now" for the last month or so. Yeah, its that bad haha. But I would say as time goes on that its more and more likely that you would be included with this upcoming decision as you are at your 4 week mark about now too.

Had a wonderful interview here today, was told that the class is not full but getting very close. Estimates on hearing back are minimum 6 weeks at this point, possibly longer. Good luck to everyone!

I feel like everyone that has been interviewed since the last committee meeting will get decisions the next time the committee meets. Isn't that how it works? People who interviewed the third week of February received decisions very quickly, which is likely due to the committee meeting right after that week of interviews (which is why week four of that month hasn't received a decision yet).

You may be right, but it's hard to say how everything changed as the cycle progresses. The longer they wait, the more volume they have to make a decision for at the committee meeting. Hopefully we all get good news soon. Next week Monday is giving them good feels right now 😛

Hey all,

I called this morning and spoke with a representative. They stated that I should hear back next week, if not 2 weeks tops. (I interviewed 2nd week March) Fingers crossed for all of us!!

Is that just for everyone in the second week of March, or are they also going to make a decision about everyone after the 14th?

I guess it's good that they are still handing out IIs. I am not sure if I am sitting on a silent rejection or what.

I have heard the committee meets on Thursday's ... not 100% sure how true that is, but if that is the case and they mail the decisions today and or tomorrow for the last week of Feb/First week of March then I think that sounds pretty accurate. Thank you for keeping us posted! So stressful!!!

The representative said they couldn't access my file because the admissions already had it, so hopefully they were in the meeting as I was calling!

That's great to hear! I hope you're right haha! If you are then it sounds like next week seems like a reasonable timeline to get a response. Fingers crossed... I don't think anyone else has had to wait this long for a decision lol

Did you get access to your NYIT email yet?? If so, how/were you given instructions?

wasn't given any instructions :/ . I just accessed my email through MyNYIT and set it up from there.

How did you log in to MyNYIT? I can't seem to figure it out! Thanks!
Hey,
If you sent in your deposit then you should get a letter in the mail soon with directions. I'm not sure if you can set it up before you get the letter because you need your student id number which is on the letter. You go to my.nyit.edu then go to password reset, it will say step one enter your student id and surname... do that and it will take you to a screen to set up a password. Your user name will be first name initial then last name so john smith is jsmith (@nyit.edu). Good luck with it all if you have any questions you can message me or call them. Again I think you will need to wait for the letter to get the student id ( probably means they activated it on their end)

For anybody wondering.... So far since my interview I have received three different letters from NYIT in the mail. The first was the acceptance package (big envelope) with a sheet that you sign to accept the seat in the class and an envelope to mail them the deposit. After that, I got about two weeks later a small envelope with background check instructions, a health form, a health insurance enrollment form and the dpc application. You should get the background check results back within 5 days of submitting the request. About three weeks after sending in the deposit ( two weeks from the second letter) I got a letter that said "dated material" and that was my NYIT id login info. I am also applying to the DPC program and for anyone wondering if received confirmation of receipt of my application about a week after mailing it to them. Hope that this helps with people trying to figure out a timetable for the mail.

No decision on us, those who interviewed last week of February, has been made yet. I called just a few minutes ago, and the ever so nice lady again said it will be another week or so... And then she added " hopefully..." :annoyed:
