Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi guys, very excited about this fall!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to pay my 1st deposit until this Monday and my deadline is the 13th of this month. I noticed that it will take Marketplace a few days to accept my payment and I'm worried that it wont be processed on time. Should I give admissions a heads up and let them know that the payment is on the way?

Hey everyone, I have a quick question. I was looking through the CIB and I realized that NSU-COM had the highest 2011 avg. student indebtedness out of all the schools at $290,000. The tuition here's ~$47k (according to the website).

On the other hand, a school with higher tuition like CCOM, for example, had an avg. indebtedness of only $218,000 despite a tuition of ~$52k. Or Touro NY, which has $200,000 indebtedness with a tuition of $41k.

Am I missing something? Can someone please chime in on why the number is so much larger for NSU? Cost of living doesn't seem to account for the discrepancies (I'm pretty sure COL in FL isn't higher than NY anyway).

Could just be inflated estinates.

i notice that nova maintains a 2 male: 1 female ratio for 2011 & 2012 matriculants. it's not accidental, is it?

Really? I thought only AZCOM was like that, with NSU being really close to 50:50

After some basic math, I came to the conclusion that NSU must be including COL into their estimate while the other schools only seem to be including tuition. That's the only thing that makes sense to me.

The total cost of attendance is included in those numbers. They are typically inflated and not everyone takes out the max federal loans.

How do people buy Lamborghinis then?

I mean don't you need a Lamborghini to pick up hawt chix? Amirite?

Ahhh okay, that makes sense. Thanks. I'm just gonna stop thinking about this med. school debt stuff now. Unnecessary stress haha.

Yeah the sooner you get over the fact that you're going to be under a mound of debt the better. You'll pay it back.

Oh wow I had no idea it was so uneven. My interview group seemed closed to 50:50 though. Oh well, I guess we can expect more males than females in the class!

anyone interviewing on the 21st? I'm kind of nervous as it is a bit late in the cycle. I already have an acceptance at another school but I'm really hoping to get into nova. Anyone staying at the Marriott plantation??

Anyone from the Jan 31st inteview hear back from Nova or know when the adcom is meeting. Thanks

Yeah, I have decide between RVU and NSU tomorrow, and was wondering the same thing. If I go with NSU, I'll probably call them to see what they say. You can pay by phone, so that could be the best way. Or overnight them a check.

I just snagged an interview on the 21st. Definitely excited about it. Im sure that will turn to nervousness.

Good luck...Im sure you will be nervous, but this school's interview day was one of the more fun/enjoyable of them all! Something to look forward to for sure. The only other one I enjoyed as much was MUCOM.

Congrats on the invite!

Thanks - do u think they mind if you leave a little early from the tour to catch a flight?

After the lunch with the dean there is an optional tour of the campus, that would be the time to leave to catch your flight. 👍

I went ahead and paid through Marketplace; Apparently the payment that I made will count as being made before the deadline even though it isn't completely processed by Wednesday. Thanks for your input!

Finally got an interview spot. Next Thursday. To all those who were waiting for a spot to open...seriously stalk that calendar page. Excited and Nervous.

Just cancelled my interview for 02/19 so a new spot should open up on the calendar! Good luck!

Interview day is really fun, just be yourself and enjoy it all. Best of luck! 😀

I think adcoms are meeting tomorrow. Interviewed Jan 31st. Finger crossed 😀 👍

I already forget when they would give us a decision. I interviewed early this month and I remember they said they meet on the 12th. Do you think we will hear word this week?

I interviewed here in December. Def my favorite school out of all that I interviewed but I want to stay closer to home. I don't know how I could turn down a place with student housing that has a pool.. with a waterfall.. which is accessible all year. But I did 🙁

No worries! Where are you going to end up?

The latest is the 22nd before my interview group finds out whether we are accepted or not. I hope we don't have to wait until then but you never know. Hopefully I start seeing post on here before the week is over from people who were accepted so I know that they are in the process of letting people know.

Where do you see this calender? Did you already receive an ii but couldn't find an interview slot?

Yea in the email they send you containing the ii, there is a link to the scheduling site that shows the calendar. I guess at this point the interview slots are full so you have to "stalk" the page and hope/wait for a date to become available and then literally jump on it. Sad truth, but an opportunity none the less.

I skipped the tour. Got accepted.

Sent from my SGH-T999 using SDN Mobile

Anyone from the Jan 31st interview heard back yet from Nova? Is there anyone other than Anastasia that we could call to get an update?

I saw a name earlier in the thread that I'm not familiar with, so I believe there is a second person you could contact about admissions questions.

Yea I know there is another lady I think her name is Lindsey or something. I saw a post earlier in this thread about her but I do not know her full name and number. Anyone know? Thanks

Linda ferris. Her info is on the packet you received on interview day. There should have been a sheet with names, emails, phone numbers of all the people you met from nova that day.

They are giving out decisions tomorrow? I interviewed on Jan 31st.

That's the pattern. Committee should have met on Tuesday, and emails should begin going out tomorrow at about 11am eastern time. Anastasia gave people a "no later than" date of the 22nd, which means a week before is when she starts sending acceptance emails.
