I got an II but there wasn't any available days to sign up for the interviews. I called them and they just told me to keep refreshing the calendar. It's the link they give you if you're invited for an interview.

I totally understand what you're going through. I applied to NSU in August...everything was turned in by the end of August/September, and I didn't get an interview from them until February. It's so frustrating. And same goes for MD schools too. But good luck! If you want it, it'll happen! 🙂

I posted my stats earlier in this thread. I was complete with the secondary in Sept. but they didn't receive my LOR's until late Oct. I got an II in late Nov. and scheduled interview for Jan. (accepted) I would consider myself a "late" applicant (correct me if I'm wrong), and I got in w/ lower stats, which I posted earlier in the thread, as many others have. So from observation I am not exactly sure how Nova narrows down the list for II. I would assume PS, LORs, and activities play a big role. But this should not be news to anyone.

BTW, I received II from 2 MDs out of state, and so far none from in-state. A little frustrating but it's alright since I'm perfectly ok attending Nova - SoFla resident

Is there a red flag in your app, like not Volunteering or lack of research?

From what I understand, the alternate list is NOT ranked. Meaning that they choose off the list at complete random when spots become available. With your stats, I'm assuming that they are waiting to see who doesn't pay the deposit in order to offer more acceptances. Once spots free up, I'm sure they will start pulling people off the wait list. As long as there are no MAJOR red flags on your application, you have a very good chance of being accepted.

Also, from what I've heard, state residency does not play a factor in the admission process at Nova.

Actually with stats like these it is common to see waitlists at DO schools. What is the best way to get people with higher stats to prove they want to go to Nova? Waitlist them. If they stick around and send letters of intent, update status', then that would show the person really liked what they saw at the interview. Then after they are offered a spot it is more likely the person will pay the deposit and go, even if they get other offers. Grades are not everything and schools like Nova are crazy about fit and the last thing they want is somebody with normal MD stats to start at their school then drop out and go to an MD school for whatever reason. Nova wants to know that you want something they have and not just a degree. If you have stats for this school next cycle and you are truely interested, you have a good shot.
 
How specifically do the interviewers ask questions dealing with research and research projects you were involved in during the interview?

:idea: Few spots left I would assume. Keep your spirits up! If you get an interview that means they are very interested in you. Obviously they can't accept everyone they interview, so at some point they have to draw a calculated line.

They didn't ask me about my research at all. Other than commenting on my PS, none of their questions pertained to anything from my app.
 
Does anyone know what email (or emails) I should send an grade and activity update to? I feel like I read somewhere that there's an admissions lady who is receptive to emails and questions. I'm interviewing tomorrow and there's plenty of things that I'd like to inform them about since initial submission of the primary. Thanks

you could also print it out and give it to Anastasia directly when you show up for the interview. I dont have the email offhand, but I think its: [email protected] but thats just from memory, so you might want to corroborate that one.
 
ACCEPTED!!! JUST GOT THE LETTER TODAY!!! Did not receive an email. IM SO PUMPEDDDDDDD

I think that goes further to show that they aren't just looking for high stats but for people that they think fit well in their system and will do well hopefully. Congratulations dude.

anyone know the process to go for the DO/DMD program? or how competitive it is to get in once accepted into Nova?

Same as getting into the DO or DMD programs themselves. Here is how it works ( per the website and old threads) first you apply to the DO or DMD program. If you get in the you can apply to the DO/DMD program and the monitor your performance during your first year in medical or dental school. After that they interview you for the position. So it is depended on your first year performance but you have to get in first.

Honestly it seems like extra work for not much benefit.

What about if you wanted to be an Oral Surgeon. Don't you have to do both?

Nope just have to go to dental school, choose oral surgery and do the residency and become a DDS.

Even maxillofacial surgeons follow a similar route. These residencies are long and very competitive.

I really don't see its benefit unless you wanted to work in a small community as both the family doc and general dentist which I think this is the goal of the program at Nova.

Like many duel degrees the school may pump it up ( or in Novas case not so much) but it isn't that helpful. The only duel degrees that could be really helpful would be DO/PhD ( or MD/PhD) and DO/MPH ( or MD/MPH). I think the DO/MBA (MD/MBA) hugs a middle ground of useful to not so much. Others like MD/DPM, MD/JD, DO/DMD and so many others are more so big money for some schools and/or interest grabbers for degree collectors.

I mean if you are somebody out there and a duel degree like this made it all possible for you and it was the best way to get it done awesome. Feel free to correct me.

Note: I don't consider BS,BA/MD(DO) degrees as duel degrees because it is more like skipping a year or two of undergrad to get into medical school. We all have to get a BA or BS degree to get into med school the above degrees are optional additions.

Got it. Interesting to think that pronunciation is the same yet meaning can be completely different based on a letter change. My understanding of English is very phonetic so you can see were I screw thing up very often. (Then/than( Although I don't pronounce these the same however I hear it done often), there/their) Even my pronunciation can be way off for words I have never heard spoken before. It can make for very interesting conversations. I have been known to use words based on sounds rather then well know usage.
 
Also I am a synesthete very strongly when it come to word sound to word "feel". Really changes my word usage to more like what words "feel" best to say as per the situation. Typing things out results in interesting ( and embarrassing) errors.
 
Gray and grey are used interchangeably however duel and dual are not. That's the primary difference.

Does nova offer a dual DO/masters in pedantic behavior degree?

Well I think I'm covered volunteering- I did 2 trips to the Gulf Coast, although they were only 1 week apiece, which I know pales in comparison to people who have done 100+ hours.

I never did any research, but I have always heard very up and down answers on whether research really matters to admission committees...not that my opinion matters at all but why does it matter anyway? 🙄

But anyway, perhaps I am a little under-equipped in that department, and if so it looks like I will have to be waiting even longer. Thankfully I have been volunteering at a homeless shelter for a medical clinic ~3 hours a week since October, hopefully that helps.

I have heard this before, especially from my sister. I'm not 100% sure it applies in all cases but you could be right.

Very weird that you didn't get the invites in-state (I'm guessing your II's mean interview invites?) and just further proof that acceptance/II's are a crapshoot to a certain degree.

Great interview day with some awesome people - thoroughly enjoyed it. School is awesome; as previously stated on this forum they really almost sell you on the school
 
Got an interview spot for March 5!!! I know it's late in the cycle but I am still so pumped after months of waiting.

So I just noticed Nova has the most views/replies in DO school threads. Are people interested in Nova just a talkative bunch or is Nova really that much attractive??
 
Just finished with the latest block of finals, so I'm catching up on this thread (way to crush the other school threads this year). The 2017 facebook group has lots of M1s and some M2s also, so it's a very inflated count. The waitlist definitely seems to move (I don't know about last year, but there was plenty of movement my year), and people get in right up until classes start.

Congrats on the acceptances, and if you have any questions definitely ask (I'm a second year, so I still don't have any personal experience with rotations, but at this point I can answer things about most of the first two years).
