Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Haven't heard anything yet. I do know my file has been complete for over 1 month, but otherwise no news. In fact, I turned in my secondary before my primary was verified and processed lol. Was really hoping for an early ii and Sept interview date, but it appears those are all booked up already.

Does anyone know if it's poor form to send a letter of interest prior to an interview invite? I just want to cover my bases and make sure I haven't given everything I've got to this process...I'd hate to have any regrets.

LOIs are a good idea to update Nova (according to my phone conversations with their general admissions department), but only if you have new info (Such as summer grades, starting a masters program or having a job).

According to the portal, closest available interview date now is Oct 17 (barring any cancellations).

After doing a search, I've seen many posts saying Nova has "great rotation sites" but can any current students comment on what makes them great?

Wow, I was just looking at last year's thread, and the latest SDN acceptance was mid February (had to go through all of March-August to find it). There were people with 3.7+'s and 35+'s being put on the waitlist, and never reported back as being accepted.

Now I know that SDN is a small population of applicants, but look at any other school-specific thread from February onward and they'll have a dozen if not more acceptances from that time onward, just a really weird coincidence I guess.

I'm not really sure what I'm getting at, but kind of scary to think of if we don't get accepted before March. There's obviously still movement from people giving up their spots, but just some good old-fashioned SDN to scare everybody I guess!

And if you go back to the cycle before that - 2011-2012, you will see so many SDNers taken off the waiting list as late as Aug. And none in 2012-2013

TWO WEEKS UNTIL THE FIRST INTERVIEW!!!! Are you all excited/ready?

I've got about a month. A little nervous, but gotta remember they just want to get to know you!....we'll all do awesome!! 😀

Thanks for the positive affirmation! Good luck this cycle 🙂

Np 👍 and I have called before through their phone line, but they usually never had an answer for me. Then I 1 day call them and they informed me that a decision was made and to expect something in the mail (which is usually never good news pre-interview).

Then, I checked my email today and I got an II.

Definitely try to get in touch with them by phone, I feel like its more direct.

Dark Label,

Just curious on how quick the turn around was from the date of submission of the secondary to the phone call you are referring to. Thanks for the help. Congrats!

I submitted right when they first sent it (sometime around beginning July).

Also they never called me, after a few weeks I called to check on my application and make sure they received all my LoRs. Then I asked the status of my app and they said "Decision Made, check your mail". Note they never said email and meant snail mail.

I promptly freak out like a typical pre-med before and then got the II Aug 8. Though I have heard from previous year that they don't officially reject until the app season is over and do review applications on a semi-regular basis. How true that is depends on whether you believe it or not.

Those with II's, how soon after you were compete did you get it?

Any current Nova students that I could PM with some questions about interviewing? I can't believe I'm already interviewing Aug 27!!😱

I met someone who was accepted off the WL last week once classes had already started. It doesn't happen to a lot of people, but it's possible.

You can PM me if you want.

If you want an M2 perspective up until now, feel free to PM me.

Your PM box is full. Was hoping to ask you some interview questions, especially for mine on Oct 17.

Oh wow, sorry about that. I got some PM's all at once. It should be cleared out now, so go ahead and send me your message.

I'm interviewing on 9/10 @ 8:30. In in process of booking my flight.

I found two flights:

1) Leaves Fort Lauderdale airport at 4:50pm and the price is $281.60

2) Leaves Fort Lauderdale airport at 6:30pm and the price is $317.60

As you see, the price difference is $36. However, the expensive flight allows for one hour and forty minutes of slack in case the school tour takes a little longer than expected.

Is it worth it to save myself the headache and go with the the second flight, or will I have enough time to get through my interview and tour and be at the airport on time for the 4:50pm flight?

I can't say for certain, but I will say that the school and the airport are very close to each other so it will not take long to get there.

You can skip the tour, honestly. You'll be spending most of your time at HPD and if you go to the gym then you'll be fine just looking at a map and figuring it out. You have to go to the University Center to get your ID, so admire thr campus while you walk there. The tour is basically a "look how nice our undergraduate campus is" type of tour. They take you over to Rolling Hills which is the student dorms, but I would try to find some other housing as the rooms are TINY according to a few former residents in my class.

Yeah. I just booked my trip. I booked both flights seperately instead of a round trip. The total was $255 instead of 317 (saving $65).

With this new flight I booked, I leave Fort Lauderdale at 9:30pm. This allows me all the time I want to tour the school and reflect. Plus it is a non-stop flight!

All I need now is to book a room at the Hampton. First however, I want to call them and ask about the shuttle service they promised to provide. I need a shuttle to take me to/from the airport and to take me to/from the school.

I just got a call today. The man was like I have good news for you…my heart started beating real fast….and then he told me my application would be seen today and I had to verify my identity. They really shouldn't get peoples hopes up like that. It is just rude haha. How long did people find out if they got an interview after the phone call?

I took the MCAT two months ago and got a 27. I'm flying up to Georgia to take it again at the end of August but already submitted my primary and secondary to NOVA. Never told them I took the MCAT once already. Will they see my score too late and not give me an interview. I want to boost to 29 or 30 but am scared that it will be too late.

Bump lol

Is your retake listed on your AACOMAS?

Hey I never actually sent my original score. Just hoping I'll get 29 or 30 this next time around so that they will see the better score, alongwith the 27.

If AACOMAS didn't receive any scores then Nova will hold your application until you send your scores to AACOMAS/

However, when you send your second set of scores, AMCA will automatically send your first set to AACOMAs.

Didn't have to verify my identity. I didn't even answer or return the phone call saying I was complete. Hope it wasn't someone trying to steal your identity.

Feel free to send me a PM with any questions y'all have.

that is kind of freaky. I didn't have to give them my whole social or anything so hopefully it was for real….I am broke as a joke so they chose the wrong person if that is the case lol

I had to verify my identity when Nova called me with my complete status. They just wanted to make sure I was who I was.

"My interview date is Sept 10, and staying at Hampton Inn. If you want to share room for $50, let me know. I am male, 21y"

Hello! Re-applying here, interviewed last year in Feb and was put on waitlist. ii last year on 11/26 but made a major mistake waiting 1 day to book my interview. Hoping to get an earlier ii this cycle! Any WL re-applicants here?

NeuroLAX or NekoBeats, or anyone else who knows:

How much in loans are allowed to take out per year? I understand that between tuition, books and other fees I'm looking at ~55k/year. I'm wondering if I, along with a stay-at-home wife and a kid, could survive on the remaining amount of the maximum annual "cost of attendence".

BTW, how much is the rent for a decent 2BR apartment near the school? Average utilities?

Thanks!

Max you could take out was like 89,000 I believe. A 2br walking distance to class could range from like 1400 to 1600 per month depending on how nice it is.

Utilities vary on usage of course. With ac plan to spend at least $100 a month.

Thank you.

89000 is a lot. A lot more than what I'm going to need. 1600 for rent is expensive. I thought it was going to be significantly cheaper.

Florida has a high cost of living, especially south florida.

Ok. Glad to know this. CoL had been a big stalling point for NSU. We have 2 kids and adopting 2 more. Houses for a family our size are outrageous there! Don't want to take on that huge of a debt load but glad it's an option. I'm planning on giving the area a good look over the day before my interview.

Getting excited/nervous for the upcoming interview. Thankfully I have continuing Ed seminar the weekend before, so I can keep my mind off of things.

Any takers for dinner or a meet-up Monday the 26th? I'll be driving down after work.

Please tell us about your experience afterwards...good luck! You all got this!!

Anyone else receive an email with a WebSTAR PIN to activate an NSU email account?

I got this at 1:30 this morning. Does it mean anything? Anyone else get it?

Also interviewing on the 27th, really stoked! Is it NSU's first interview of the season?

I am interviewing on 27th as well. Anybody want to split a room on 26th? I am staying at Hampton Inn, I reserved a room with 2 queens for $99, so $50 a person. Send me a private message if interested, thanks.

I'm for meeting up to meet some fellow sdners. Let's try and make it happen!
