Just got a call today that my file has been forwarded to the admissions office for review. Secondary sent 8/19/13. Did anybody else get this phone call? If so how long until you got an II? Have not sent in any LORs yet.

Yeah everyone gets the call. At this ppont in the cycle, I doubt your complete date and phone call will be a predictor of when you might hear back to interview. I bet you could have less than a week turn around, if they meet again soon.

I am wondering if my age is the reason I have not heard anything yet? Anyone know the youngest age they will consider? I am 19.

Age discrimination is illegal. Also, ignore the above poster, he has no clue. Do what you want to.

As long as you're mature, professional and accomplished you'll be fine.

This is bad advice. Age discrimination still happens indirectly and the above poster was just trying to encourage the kid to live a little. I'm sorry, but I couldn't imagine being in medical school at 19. It's not impossible, but it's not ideal nor practical.

I definitely couldn't imagine it either, but hey, good for them for being able to potentially graduate at 23 and be an attending by 26-27. That sounds pretty amazing to me.

This. It's phenomenal to think about how young they could be as an attending. I applied trying to go straight from undergrad to med school and failed. Looking back I think I lucked out that it happened that way, more time for me to mature, get experience in the hospital, and really get the itch to be in classes again, and as someone said earlier, unwind and live a little after the stresses of worrying about killing classes to have a shot. However, as thesarong goes different strokes! Do what you believe you can handle and enjoy, don't be in too much of a hurry but definitely don't get complacent. Just some ramblings. Good luck this cycle!

I can't take it because I'm starting a new job next week, but FYI it looks like there's an interview spot open for next Thursday if anyone wants it! Just thought I'd share.

At that age I was playing COD and didn't even care about school, or medicine.

I'll take it! Oh wait, no ii here yet 🙂

Ahh, COD and Battlefield... those were the good 'ol days. I haven't played either of them since winter break. 🙁

Neither of you are med students or adcom members, so it doesn't matter what you think. You sound like a bunch of haters.

I took next Aug the 29th! Now Sept 19th is open.

How did you do it, change your interview to an earlir date?

Every time I go to the portal the only slots open are ones later than what I am assigned to now.

I'm your age and got an interview. So I don't think that they discriminate by age, must be something else. Or your interview invite might be on its way soon!

There's your answer.

And if I were 19 again I would say takes one to know one...

I wasn't aware that I was hating. I did in fact say "different strokes" and encouraged them to do what they felt comfortable doing. You, my friend may be a little too quick to view others as discouraging, as I'm the last to dissuade someone from following a dream as I've been chasing this one for three cycles. I merely stated my situation as food for thought and not as a deterrent. So I'm sorry if it came off as"hating". Good luck to you both of you.

I just use the portal. If the dates not there then someone already grabbed it.

Also while I'm on here, was wondering if anybody interviewing on the 27th was going to meet up the night before, I know that back5 floated the idea a while back. Would definitely be fun to meet up with sine of the SDN crew that I've been cheering on!

It will take me about 3 hours to drive down, so I won't get to my hotel until 8pm, but I'd like to grab a bite or some coffee if you guy/gal(s) are up for it.

Oct 29th is open. Had to reschedule due to a conflict. Go get it!

Ouch, that's going to a little rough. Good luck to your friend and get a good nights rest

I'm used to late dinners anyway. Plus it will be nice to see a familiar, friendly face the next day. Take a little pressure off knowing you have some friends around. I'll pm you my number when we get a little closer to coordinate. Anybody else down?

I forgot the last time I turned on my Xbox. Being an adult sucks sometimes.

Yeah I hear ya. Even when I played during winter break I only played it once. In the past 2 years I've probably turned on my Xbox less than 5 times. Sigh. When I was in college it was on every day between me and three of my friends living together.

I'm also interviewing on the 27th and would be down to grab a bite to eat!

Well finally verified yesterday and received the secondary today! Hope to submit it tomorrow! Good luck to all of you with interviews!!

Hey guys I have a quick question. Im interviewing on the 29th and planning to stay at the Hamptom inn. I got a email today from nova saying that I should be there by 8:15am. from what I understand the shuttle leaves hampton at 8am? is this correct and will I have plenty of time to get to nova by 8:15 at the latest?

With the infamous traffic in South Florida, give yourselves a bit more time than that. 15 minutes is cutting it pretty close at that time of the morning. You really don't need any more stress right now, right?

Crud. I was planning on taking the Hampton shuttle too. Is it worth it to get a taxi? I'm seriously broke from interview flights and hotels as it is.

I stayed at the Hampton right before school started and had to take the shuttle to take care of some things on campus. It takes 10 minutes to get to the school from the hotel. You might just barely make it by 8:15. Honestly though, since the school works with the hotel to accommodate you guys and give good deals I'm sure it will be fine. Just don't miss the shuttle because then you'll be stranded until it gets back and you'll be late for sure!

I think I'll risk it. Maybe we should notify the hotel the night before, they'll probably help us out. If not, taxi it is. Thank you!

Oh crap. This is worrying me now. I was planning to stay at the Hampton and utilize their shuttle service. Now, I think I should rent a one-way cab to school. I'd rather cough up another 20-30 for a cab service than arriving late to my interview and wasting ~400 of flight and lodging expenses.

Maybe get a whole group of you to split the taxi.

Don't stress. I stayed at Hampton. You will get there on time. The interview stuff starts a bit later anyways. You all will just be sitting in the waiting room till like almost 830.

If you're taking a taxi, please please be sure to call well in advance. This is South Florida: lots of people = lots of traffic. Not to mention the fact that taxis can be late. Even if your hotel is less than 5 miles away, it could take you up to 30 minutes in the morning. Plus, the Nova undergrads are back for the Fall = more traffic going into Nova from all entrances.

If you're driving yourself to campus, give yourself plenty of time. Better to check in and relax before you interview than panicking trying to get here. Since many of you have never been to Nova, I recommend entering campus via the University Ave entrance. Just keep in mind that it will be very busy getting into this entrance. HPD is where you want to be, and you can't miss it from University Ave. There is construction at the side entrance behind the clinic, so I wouldn't recommend going through there. Play it safe. It is easier to find the parking garage this way, and you don't have to waste any time finding where you need to be if you have HPD in sight at all times.

Do you have any cab company recs?

Not really. The only times I've called a taxi were to go out later in the night. Naturally there will be more people calling for rides. Try doing a Google search. You may find some reviews to help make your decision. What hotel are you staying at?

Crowne Plaza by the airport. According to Google Maps, it's a 15-minute drive from the school. I guess I'll wake up at ass o' clock and summon the cab. Better early than late.
