Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Regardless of the "ultimate" decision, I have no regrets applying and visiting this school. It was an awesome experience. I loved the school, the staff, the dean and the students. I also got to meet some of the SDN posters :naughty:

I emailed Anastasia to see what was up. All I said was that I was wondering what factors caused them to put me in the alternate list, since I had a really good interview. Hope to get a reply by Monday! (and I recommend that everyone else who was waitlisted do the same!)

You guys want to email her, be my guests.

I'm not risking my Alternate list status :naughty:

I have no regrets either to be honest. I really liked this school on paper, but I just don't love Florida. Visiting the school made me realize it. I also didn't like how busy the school is with all the different health students running around. With that said, the school still is impressive in terms of academics and facilities. The staff, faculty, and current students all seemed very nice and enthusiastic.

whats with the majority here getting waitlisted. why invite people to interivew if you are going to waitlist most of them. just doesnt make sense

Mama you are on FIRE today!!!! Time for a huge celebration!!!

Right back at you Ozello!!!
It's been an exciting couple of days!!

Congrats to all the acceptances!!! Alternates don't give up hope! I am sure that there will be a lot of movement!!! You will get a spot!

Alternate. Interviewed on the 29th. 3.95 gpa. 27 mcat. Over 2000 hrs of community and clinical work. Two researches with a publication. Over see experiences. Astonished about the decision

Something's not right.. This is my speculation..Amcas is taking unusually long this year to verify and submit apps (I.e. they are still verifying applications submitted back in july). They have notified schools to make them aware of this and many MD schools have yet to start offering acceptances (or have just started) It is very early in the process right now for MD or DO and NOVA is head of the game with many interviews under their belt.

NOVA might be pushing back their acceptance offers to see who is still around in a few months. They might rereview the ppl who are still around by then.

Many future MD students apply to NOVA as a back up. It would be unrealistic for them to offer acceptances to kids with stats like 3.7/34, 3.5/31 right now only to have these students ditch them in a month or so for an MD school. Even students like you with a 3.9/27 are going to get into some MD program. For example, one poster on here mentioned he didn't apply MD and he just got accepted to NOVA with lower stats then most of you that were just put on the "alt" list. Maybe he got looked at differently.

If they offered a high percentage of MD-like students acceptances, they wouldnt have a realistic idea of how many spots left they have to fill. Its possible this happened to them at an unusually high rate last year and increasingly so with the number of applicants exponentially on the rise.

Either the alt list is more like a rereview later list or they know you students will be in an MD program by this time in 3 months.

I am new to the thread but I have been watching it for a while though.

Nova is my top choice and still no ii, but reading today made me really nervous🙁... I am sure everyone will hear better news soon! A lot of you have amazing stats! 🙂

I think the Mo0ose has got a point. My MD app was just verified. And while I strong as a DO applicant they can see that I am not as good for MD. The retakes worked in my favor. I a safe bet for them to give an acceptance too. Many of your GPAs/MCAT just blew me away! This is a good explanation as to this crazy warped alternative list.

Your speculation /does/ make sense.. but the email said we are random, with no number or grouping. Unless its just a generic response(assuming this year is infact special)

I'm curious to find out who is also applying to MD schools as well as DO schools who are on the waitlist. I made it very clear in my interview that I was only applying to DO schools.

Even granting this explanation, I don't see why they would even invite those "MD" applicants to interview in that case. That just wouldn't make sense.

I would agree with u. I spent 900 just to visit them. They should value that

Of course they would offer an interview to someone with a 3.7/34, 3.5/31.

Anyway, like I said, its just me speculating on a blog. I have no factual insight. I don't mean to cause a conspiracy here against peoples hard work and money. Lol lets keep it in context.

but it also mentions that they will be contacting the person to see whether or not he/she is still interested in attending their school. I think DmoOose's theory makes sense, or may be, out of desperation, I want to believe it.

My stats aren't good enough for MD, so I'm a safe bet too. Perhaps, being an OOS doesn't make me a safe bet.

I'm wondering if any OOS was accepted?

Out of state and made it very clear that I was only interested in DO. Still wait listed.

Yeah the lottery feel of the alternate list is disconcerting. And I'm only applying to DO schools with a cgpa 3.65 sgpa 3.55 and 28 mcat so is be borderline for sine md schools. Would hate to learn that the assumption of losing out to md schools is keeping well qualified people that want to go to nsu from spots. On a happier note many many congratulations to those that got in! So stoked for you guys!

I'm out of state and I got accepted. Keep in mind that not everyone who interviewed there frequents SDN. I know of at least two others at my undergrad school that got accepted and haven't posted on here at all.

Still...definitely weird to see all of these waitlists. Just going off of stats, it sure seems a safe bet that most of you will get in at other places.

Im in state 3.45 cgpa, 3.3 sgpa, 27R MCAT. Also made it very clear that I was applying to DO only. I have great EC's\LOR and lots of shadowing and medical experience. Im so disappointed 🙁

I see.

I'm just trying to make sense of what's happening here. It would be a total waste of money and time not only of the students but also of the school to accept only a small fraction of their interviewees.

I've been in contact with four other people that I interviewed with who do not go on SDN, and all four of them were also placed on the alternate list. The ratio we're seeing seems about right at least from the people that I know who interviewed here. That said, hopefully we'll get some more information on Monday.

Maybe there will be a lot of waitlist movement each week and we are all worrying for no reason.

I hope so, man.

I also contacted one of the people who attend the 9/10 interview, and doesn't post on SDN, and was told that he was put on the Alternate list.

From what we are seeing here, and what people we know outside of SDN, I'd wager that the ratio seems about right..hopefully we get some news some how

Does anyone know when is the next batch of interview taking place? It seems to me that 9/12 was the last interview date. I'm wondering how long of a gap will there be between the last interview date and the next one.

Also alternate listed. Surprised and disappointed, but let's persevere people !

does this school love alternate list or what?

Someone said theyre going this tuesday

What r they thinking? If i get accepted somewhere else, i would accept the offer even if nsu is a first choice for me. I would not wait for nsu acceptance and lose my chance of getting in med school. I dont see the logic behind their decision.

Exactly. As much as I would love to attend NSU, my first priority is to start med school next fall.

Pretty sure your seat won't go unfilled. You need to look at it from their perspective.
