Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks for the info! So in general it would be a nice advantage to live in walking distance?

You're going to want to live as close as possible so you don't need to worry about traffic and getting to school on time during test days. But most people, even those who live close enough to walk to campus, still drive or take a shuttle to school. I don't think it's worth walking to school everyday to avoid the parking structure if that's what you're asking!

How full is the class? I'm currently scheduled for March 13 interview, seems extremely late tho

Congratulations on the interview! Would you mind to share your stats an when your file was complete? Thanks!

I also registered for March 13th interview spot today, very excited! I would assume it's not too late, as when I spoke to Linda Ferris weeks ago, she mentioned something that they were backed up and class wasn't full at all.

I love how Nova (and other FL schools) calls their semesters Summer, Fall and Winter....as if to suggest Florida has actual seasons. Should be called Summer I, II and III 😉

Called in yesterday to see if they took updates and to check on my application (complete 6/29, 3.5/29Q). She said I was still "under review" and that I was still being considered for an interview. She also told me where to send my updates. I am a lifelong Miami resident and am really hoping for some love from Nova.

Where did she say to send updates?

Also, what kind of interview is it? Group or One-on-one?

Just fyi to double and triple check that they received your updates and that they are added to your file. I sent an additional reference via Interfolio and they emailed me they received it. But when I called to inquire about my status later on (twice) nobody could locate it in my file. The interview is 2 on 1, pretty relaxed, they said they want to see passion in people so pour your heart out 🙂

Thanks, but where do updates go? an email or address?

Yeah I got a response to "submit any additions to your application via fax (with cover letter) to..." By cover letter do they mean one just including my contact info or do they want a job-like application cover letter with a mini personal statement or something like that?

I think the CL is meant to help them assign the fax materials to the correct file. Just put down your NSU ID, contact info and a description that it's an update to your application

Has anyone who filed their FAFSA got to see their award amount? I sent mine a couple days after New Years, and I still haven't seen my award status. I'm wondering if this takes a while. Also, what factors would cause an increase in award amount? Is having a good credit score an important factor, or is your marital status/dependents more important?

Do you happen to still have the direct number for the adcom? I have tried calling before with their number from the website however it is for the whole entire campus, thus you have to wait on hold forever! Thank you!

I have only called the people that have access to the applicants files but are not part of admissions on 1 800 541 6682. I haven't spoken directly to an admissions counselor, although these people have offered to transfer me.

I beleive the award amount depends on your income if you are independent and the number of dependents you have if you have any. I don't think they look at your credit history at all. However, I am curious if the federal money (including loans) will be enough to cover tuition and living expenses. May be someone have more information about it? I heard about grad loans, but they look at your credit history, and what if your credit has some negative information?

According to some med students they said it was enough.

Hey all, I'll be interviewing here soon and I'm looking for some traditional and non-traditional int questions that NSUCOM asks? Any curveballs?

Thanks for any help.

I interviewed on 1/16 and have not heard anything back. I see that other students have already heard back that have interviewed after my date. Does this mean I will most likely be denied?

Not necessarily. You still have a chance.

I just find it odd that somebody 12 days after my interview received an acceptance....

I've seen one person post their acceptance after interviewing on the day I did (1/28). Hopefully that doesn't mean bad news for those of us who haven't heard anything.

Has anyone who was supposed to get the application fee refunded actually had their money refunded?

I waited 2 months for an acceptance. And people who interviewed weeks after I did got accepted before me. Just be patient. I also sent in more LoRs and a letter of intent...if that's something you feel like doing. Can't hurt

What did you letter of intent include? Also I'm considering having the head coach of the basketball team I'm assisting on write a letter for me since this is an activity that I am currently involved in and admissions may view me as more well rounded, good idea or bad?

I'm going to call once more. If they don't give it back they may notice a reversal on their accounts. They may not notice because of the volume of applications they accept for their program.

hahahahahahaha

No.

My intent letter included how I fit Novas mission statement, why I'm
Interested in nova and Southeast Florida and my intent to live and practice in Miami Dade county . I also talked about how I would be an asset ( compassion, add diversity, etc).

You want to add letters from people who will write you the best recommendation. my letters were all from DOs and PhDs. But adding a letter from your coach is
A good idea as long as he can relate your qualities to the qualities of being a doctor.

When are most people expecting to move? My timeline is immediately after July 4. Is that unreasonable? Should I shift it forwards a couple weeks?

I seriously wanted to move right after July 4th too. Deff doable if you live off campus but if on campus it might be a case by casis basis

I can't imagine they'd let you in that early in advance.

I'm kinda disappointed in the bed size. For all that amenities, the room has a twin bed 🙁

Maybe not that early but at least maybe two weeks a head so we can get two full weeks of beach and clubbing before classes start. And yes the twin bed sizes suck. Not to mention communal laundry machines... And for
$14k??
My undergrad on campus apartment had a full size bed...With private laundry machines (all for $10k).

I'm 90% sure I'll be on campus this year but wanna try for off campus during my remaining years.

If you look back at the previous posts in this thread there are people who have interviewed on the same day but received their acceptances on different dates.

I'm hoping to move off-campus. I sleep on a King now, downsizing to a twin is impossible.

Hello everyone, I was wondering what people's stats were? Currently this is my dream school, and definitely want to try to fit their standards.
