Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know how often admissions meets for sending out interviews? When the next batch will be sent out or what days I should check my email constantly?

Thanks

After the initial surges, it looks to be completely random. I have my email capability on my phone, which is constantly pushing data so I'll know the instant I get something. I would suggest doing the same.

I am staying there for the 29th interview and my husband is driving me. We are renting a car so should have room for at least two more people if need be. PM me if you are interested.

I'm interviewing on the 27th. Would like to be on campus by 8. Also have a rental car if someone wants a ride.

I'm staying at the Hampton Inn and i'm driving a rental. Also myself and back 5 are getting together the night before if anyone else wants to meet up and hang out. PM if your interested.

I applied the first week of July. It still is in processing stage. How long does that take before getting verified and sent to the schools? Feeling anxious. Any thoughts?

Looking at the campus map, I see there is a parking lot in front of HPD and a garage behind it. So are we not allowed to park in the parking lot? Neither the parking pass, the interview website, nor the II emails address this.

Maybe that's only for faculty/staff?

Does anyone have any actual experience taking the shuttle from the Hampton for their interview?

The parking lot directly in front of HPD is for administrators. You won't be able to park there. There's a faculty/student parking lot in front of the parking garage, but it is highly unlikely that you'd get a spot there. Your best bet is to park in the parking garage. You'll get here early enough to not have to park too far up.

Don't forget to print a parking pass if you're driving!

I do. Took it in November
2012. It arrived in time, the driver knows exactly where to drop you off, they do this all the time.

If you still don't trust it and want something a bit closer driving distance, there is a courtyard Marriott on university dr just down the street from school which some of my classmates really liked.

Thanks! I already have reservations at the Hampton, I'll take the shuttle then.

Any last tips for those of us interviewing on Tuesday? Other than relax, smile and be yourself? 😀

Not sure what else there is tbh. Pretty much standard for any interview. You've passed the test of being good enough academically, now just don't act like you're socially inept.

Eat a good breakfast, it's a long interview day and you get a later lunch.

Ask lots of questions to the student tour guide. The interview day is essential in finding if nova is a good fit for you, not just the other way around. So ask about the learning environment, attendance, housing, social life(the limited one u get in med school), etc...

Really pay attention and see if this school offers things that interest you and will provide you with an environment in which YOU will succeed. Every one has their own styles so you really need to find which is your ideal environment.

Do you mean that we will be interviewing in group? How's the format?

I dug through last year's posts, and apparently it will be individual interviews with 2 faculty members with file-specific questions. On the NSU website, it says 2-3 faculty members. Last year's interviews lasted 15 minutes total per person.

I was just wondering how many people will be present tomorrow.

This is correct. Two faculty members will interview you. And usually 15-20 mins is the average time for the interview

Parking garage is being worked on, so there are significantly fewer spots this week. Plan ahead and leave early.

Good luck tomorrow!

Should we aim to park in the garage next to the Medical Building or the one across campus?

Good luck to everyone interviewing tomorrow! Just relax and be yourself. I'll say hi if I see a group of you guys 😀

On my way to Ft. Lauderdale to interview! Layover in Denver. I've been here FOREVER!

Park in the HPD (medical) garage, not the one across campus unless you want a 15 min walk in your suit.

I just got to the Hampton Inn Plantation if anybody wants to meet up for a bit. I know a few of us are meeting later tonight around 8 ish

Got a complete phone call today! Submitted on friday, so hopefully I will get an II soon. For those that have an interview already good luck!!

What sorts of qualities are sticking out to the adcoms who are sending iis to applicants? State ties? Stats? ECs? Early completion?

what are you guys planning to sightsee when in ft. lauderadale? I might go down to Ocean drive, the day before, is that a bad idea?

Going to the beach the day before is actually a good idea. Should help you get relaxed.

Definitely go sightsee, as long as you are not going clubbing or bar hopping the night before you should be fine.

Distance from the Hampton Inn by Nova to the beach? The beach is not within walking distance of the school. It's a 20-25 minute drive.

Anybody interviewing November 21 hit me up. I haven't booked a hotel or a flight yet and I'm thinking if anybody else is interviewing we can coordinate this ish together. Grab a beer the night before, just chill out etc. I'm planning on staying a couple days too

Good luck today everyone!

I'll post my experience later this afternoon/evening.

Nova received my application a few weeks ago and haven't heard anything yet. Nova sends out emails for interview correct? I just don't want to miss anything if it comes. Thanks!

Wahoo!! Just switched my interview date to september 12 so I don't have to make another two flights after my other interview. So psyched-- I'll be there from september 10 through september 12 7pm. Anyone want to get together?

So here is the breakdown of the interview day. There were about 25 applicants present. The day started out with an admissions briefing with the admission office. Then a faculty member came in to discuss the curriculum. Then the group got divided. Half prepped for individual interviews and the other half went on a facilities tour. Then there was a lab introduction with the robotic patients followed by a lunch with the dean and an optional campus tour.

The interviews were relaxed and conversational. Everyone was very nice. My interviewer didn't ask any uncomfortable questions.

Thank you for posting. When did the day end? How long was the actual interview? How many interviewers you had? Did you stay at the Hampton? If so, did you use their shuttle service?
