Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know if they are friendly to "in the area" emails? I live in Alaska, and flights are ridiculously expensive, so I'd like to consolidate travel and interviews if I can! I'll be in FLL for a couple days around the 12th of November, and then again for a couple days before Thanksgiving, but I don't want to sound pushy or anything!

If they have free spot, they will let u switch

WL, will be withdrawing my application soon. Good luck to u all. FYI- if u are on the WL, then update ur application regularly to show that u are still interested in the school.

We are still waiting to hear about the second batch of notifications correct? Not sure when/if there will even be WL movement for NSU.

With the number of people who have been withdrawing their application after being accepted/wait listed (my observation on SDN), I'm hopeful that the school will start pulling people of the WL.

No email today unless they send out emails in the evening. I guess we keep waiting. >.<

This is a heads up to those who already have interviews set up at Nova, but have scheduled them later in the season...I will be calling the admissions office tomorrow to cancel my interview scheduled for this Thursday 10/17, after being accepted elsewhere. I'm not sure how it works exactly but you may be able to take my spot. I will be calling around 330 eastern time. Good luck to everyone in this grueling process!

What's the protocol for the Acceptance of position in Entering Class? Do we fill this out when we know, 100% that we are going to attend NOVA? Or just if we want to hold our acceptance?

Your deposit is essentially you accepting your spot

Sent in my deposit to Meharry so, I am withdrawing my app.

I have no idea if I was accepted or waitlisted or rejected.

Still waiting here too. Got a call that my secondary was processed like the 2nd week of August.

apparently anastasia is not the admissions counselor anymore...

Great interview day today, everyone here cares about your success, rotations seem golden, great international programs, non competitive environment, gorgeous location, built in humanism course and foundations course that ties basic science to clinical practice, on and on. I hope I get in, would probably just withdraw everywhere else. Good luck to everyone still to interview, it was very laid back, and in my case(and others as well) only about 15-20 minutes. We will know our fates in 4 weeks:scared:

I wonder if there is any reasons for concern regarding this.....I just hope our applications don't get affected as a result :S

yeah it's weird. seeing how she was the counselor during the early interviews

Hey, I think I sat next to you at lunch.

I wonder if the loss of the admissions counselor had anything to do with the high number of WLs?

that wouldnt make sense to me seeing how there are people that got accepted

Fewer personnel ---> Less work gets done in committee, but decisions are still due within 4 weeks. The interim person right now is also the full-time PT counselor. It's just a thought.

so they waitlist people and have them go somewhere instead of waiting longer to make a proper decision? don't think so

This year seems very bizarre based on previous years and threads. Anastasia leaving NSU just adds fuel to the speculation fire. Can't blame these guys from wondering what, if any, correlation this has to the seemingly abnormal amount of WL's being doled out.

the waitlist mystery continues 😍

I'm not sure whether Anastasia is involved in the actual decision making aspects and granting acceptances. But you are right that it is peculiar this year with regards to the abnormally high amount of WL. Perhaps the admissions committee is thinking of taking a different approach due to the rather high frustration here on SDN (they do monitor the threads)............Let the speculations continue

I don't know about you, but I'm fairly disappointed with how I acted earlier on in the thread. I think the decisions caught many of us by surprise which led to the gut "what the heck" reaction, but in the end we aren't really entitled to anything.

I would agree with you that the admissions committee decisions are/were separated from Anastasia. Whatever strategy they are using must come from their director of admissions and eventually we will see how it all turns out.

With DO schools specifically though, it's very difficult for applicants to hold out on a waitlist position when many acceptances require a few week decision/deposit.

Plus deposits are not cheap lol.

I only interviewed a few weeks ago so haven't received a response yet.....I'll hold off on any frustration till then lol

Declining my acceptance today, hopefully one of you on the WL gets my spot! This is a great school! Best of luck everyone

I'm right there with you. It is what it is though and luckily I have acceptances elsewhere, which is bittersweet because I would like to wait around and see because I loved Nova but I am not going to shell out $3,000 dollars in deposits because I simply can't afford it. Good luck to everyone else and I hope you all hear some good news soon.

Late to the party, but just finished my secondary today.

I hope to have my LOR's in by early next week, but have been reading that NSU will schedule you to interview without all LOR's in ... this makes me tingle.

So I just got an email with the PDF copy of my secondary application.

There is a major problem. It has my volunteer activities listed, but my work is experience is blank. Work activities was most certainly filled out on the secondary, and I triple checked everything. My work is both extensive and significant, so it is very important that they see it (It is also listed in detail on my AACOMAS).

Anyone else have a problem with this? Looks like I'll have to send someone an email to get it fixed.

I got a phone call today. I was so hoping it was for an interview, but they were just confirming my application is complete and being sent to the committee. I only receieved and completed the secondary yesterday, so that was a quick turn-around.

Yes, you would think that and the fact that it has been 1 day would have told me it was just a courtesy call, but I saw Florida and got too excited to think.

I got the same call, and also finished the secondary yesterday.

I was able to fix my secondary app, the person on the phone was very friendly and had me fax over my information.

So I know they gave us a Nov. 8th hear-by date, but has anyone who interviewed on or around 9/24 heard anything back from them yet?

I haven't heard anything yet. Maybe tomorrow? They usually send status emails on Fridays.
