Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

To anyone who goes here, what's the difference between building a and C at rolling hills? Is it worth it or should I just get an off campus apartment. I'd get a single(one bedroom) place as I'm kind of done with the whole roommate thing. At the same time I think it'd be nice to live with other students instead of out on my own, I'd be worried there wouldn't be anyone to hang out with otherwise. Comments on this?

mostly just you. i told you to relax. no one ever gets WL or rejected after receiving the missing document email. 😉
I was freaking too, I understand your nervousness so I'm just glad we're all done waiting now and we're in!

Congratulations everyone who was recently accepted. I am a 4th year at Nova and can try to answer any burning questions you may have. It is a very exciting time, and I wish you all the best of luck. Feel free to send me a PM, as I do not check here that often.

I also interviewed on 11/21 and was accepted yesterday!! So excited. Just submitted my deposit on Market Place! 🙂 CONGRATS EVERYONE!

I got accepted. Interviewed 11/21.

Where are good places to look for apartments?

Does anyone know the policy to defer acceptance for the next year?

Hi, I had deferred my acceptance from Fall 2013 to next fall. Call the admissions counselor (it was Anastasia when I did it). Your going to have to write a letter to Dean Silvagni explaining why you want the deferment. If he approves it, then you'll get an official letter in the mail approving your deferment.

You will have to pay the $2000 deposit though.

A lot of people live across the street from Nova in sunforest and sundance. Some others live down the street in palm trace landings and rolling hills. Some people live nearby in plantation (10 min away) or anywhere within a 8-10 mile radius. The traffic can be a pain at times, so I wouldn't recommend living too far from campus. I lived in plantation and liked the community.

What is the academic calander like? Do you have any time off after exams? When does summer start/end for you guys?

Calendar is busy. First semester is very busy. Lectures in the morning, labs in the afternoon. No time off after exams, but I guess you can just not go to lecture (we don't have mandatory lectures). I don't recommend that- easiest way to fall behind again. You have one month free in the middle of summer between the two summer terms. After the second summer term you have about a week before M2 year starts.

They actually just changed it up for the current first years. We have 7 weeks after first year and only one summer term 🙂

Oh, thank God. That is awesome. You have no idea... that makes me very happy for you and future students.

Can anyone comment on the DO/mph or emergency and disaster masters?

This is worthy of "good news everyone!" In the professor's voice
I'm confused and I don't want to get my hopes up lol...I interpreted that as us incoming 2014 M1's would have two summer sessions, is it that the new M1's will have only one summer session and 7 weeks off? (fingers crossed!)

I would love a 7 week break! I hope that is true, we could all probably use it after M1. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it's true for us 🙂

I'm assuming if it goes well for our class it will probably continue on with 2018 and if it goes not so well it will revert back to two summer sessions. I can't comment on what they'll do for 2018 but for class of 2017 it's seven weeks of break and only one summer session.

Is it 7 week break then the 1 summer session or summer session then the 7 week break? I'm guessing the latter...

I received my secondary on 11/26 and submitted same day. I received an email 11/28 saying they received my secondary app . Then I received an email 12/2 saying they received my letters. Finally I received a call 12/5 saying that my file was complete and ready for review and they confirmed all of my contact info. The woman I spoke gave me a contact number and said they would contact me if I was selected for an interview. I have not heard anything since. Are there any chances I still may be up for an interview?

Oh haha no I did't realize that! Newbie to the forums! By ii I meant secondary.
Thanks for the correction!

I received a call today and missed it. Called them back and was told they were just calling to let me know my application is going up for review. I have not even submitted my letters of recommendation yet. I asked the representative if I needed to submit letters of recommendation and he said not at this time, they will call again when letters are needed. He said my application was complete, going for review!?!?? Anyone else receive a call? I figure if they call every single applicant and tell them their application is going up for review...thats ALOT of phone calls 5000+, with calls for interviews and acceptances etc. I am so confused.... and anxious!

I received the same call a few days after they received my secondary and all my letters. They told me my file was complete and up for review. When I first answered, I could have sworn it was for an ii. But no word from them yet. I guess I won't hear anything now until they get back from break. Good Luck and keep me updated if you hear anything.

So weird! I'll update when I hear. Good luck to you too!

The AACOM website says the first day at Nova is Aug. 5th. Does anyone know when the White coat ceremony is?

Everyone gets that call from Nova when complete from what I have seen on here.

Nova will interview you and even accept you without all your letters turned in, but you'll have to turn them in before school starts. So, in a weird way, your app is complete without them.

When do classes start?

We didn't get a complete and verified schedule until about two months before school started. But the first week of August is the norm, and white coat ceremony was the Sunday after school started last year. I think it's usually the day before classes begin.

So I didn't get the deposit instructions yet but I want to pay on marketplace, how have you been doing that? The website seems a tad sketchy and it's not explicit at all.

Lol it is shady, I agree.

Click on University Store then find the College of osteopathic medicine.
Click the amount you want to pay.
When it says delivery address, just write down yours.
You'll get a confirmation email, and then another email once the order is processed.

Has there been ii lately? I been complete since late July/ early August.

+1 Was wondering about the white coat ceremony myself (mom needs several months advance to get days off) but didn't feel like being put on hold again haha

It's a little difficult to give an estimate because we had our white coat ceremony the day before the first week, while the c/o 2017 had their ceremony after the first week. It's usually around that time, but Nova could always change it for you guys. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available. When you guys do find out about white coat ceremony, be sure to order your white coat from the bookstore asap. They cost $40. If you don't order yours in time they will have blank coats for pictures.

For when you need it, here is the website for ordering lab coats: http://www.webmedbooks.com/nova/default2.aspx

You all will receive this info eventually. For now just sit back and relax!

Thank you! Just paid my acceptance fee!

Lol I paid the $2000 in full. I'm pretty my credit card is maxed out right now. I'm too scared to check.

I'm a little late, but congrats to all the recent acceptances!! It's nice to get good news just in time for the holidays 🙂

Building A is all singles, and building C has singles and quads. RH is worth it in the sense that it comes with furniture and is literally 3 blocks away from campus. If you decide to go with RH, I highly recommend getting the single. I tried the quad with the themed housing option that they had and 1.) it's not themed that well and 2.) it's way too small for 4 people.

If you're worried about not having anyone to hang out with, my class had some meetups in June/July so we got to know each other and make friends before school even started.

Hey so I got in. My dad (maybe jokingly) suggested to buy a house in Ft. Lauderdale, since I don't see this happening...

I'm 23m send me a PM if you are interested in possibly rooming!

Same... haven't heard anything from NOVA since the complete phone call in the summer (OOS from NJ). Very hard to be patient while everyone else is posting about their acceptances!

I received a complete phone call on November 18, and then didn't hear anything since then. I am from another country (refugee), but have been living in Florida for several years and went to undergrad here. I live in Plantation, about 7-10 min away from Nova. Really hope to get an interview any time soon. My stats are similar to yours: 3.81c/3.87s/25. Wish you good luck, too!!!
