The lady said the deadline was yesterday October 2. No interviews went out before the deadline. The fake news is whoever said they received the interview guys. Dont believe me, call for yourselves.

I was told that UMich barely started to call candidates and will be doing so for a few days
 
For Loma Linda Pedo, does anyone know if its mandatory that you have a religious letter? I'm not involved with a specific religious center.

I wish I knew what more I could do. I have a GPR completed, since January 2018 I been working at only children’s dental office 3 days a week and the other 2 days a week I work at a FQHC clinic dental van and school based program on children’s only.

Any advice? I’m running out on ideas :(

You’re still waiting to hear from 23 programs. That’s a lot. Just see what happens over the next two weeks. If you’re a decent applicant, I’d imagine some of those will reach out to you.

I know how you feel and what anxieties you're going through. It seems to me that you're a pretty decent, if not fairly solid candidate for a position. I'm finding out, however, how incredibly competitive it is! This is my 2nd time applying (the first time I only applied to 3 schools, so my chances of matching were essentially zero!). I applied to 21 schools this time around (also turned them in later in the cycle),, and I thought that this number was absolutely outrageous. Come to find that other applicants applied to 30+ programs! I have only received 1 interview, that's it.

As for myself, I've been out of school for quite some time. I graduated in 2012, and since than, I am a lead dentist in an office that treats primarily children and teens in the lower income and Medicaid populations (though I am not in a public health clinic). I have also been providing oral conscious sedation for the last 3 years for children.
I thought that I had a decent chance of getting at least a few interviews considering the amount of pediatric experience I have, but I'm thinking that now the programs are really judging applicants on scores, GPAs, class ranks, etc. Unfortunately, these are things completely out of my control now, so of course I'm at a loss as well. I don't know your particular circumstances, but I would imagine that there are other things that applicants such as ourselves can do more to strengthen our applications in the event that we don't get offered or match to a position somewhere.
I personally am planning on becoming more involved in the community by volunteering. So I'm looking ahead at events that cater to children's dentistry in and around my community.

Let's see what the other applicants have in mind for advice. Goodluck to you. This is an incredibly stressful cycle, but you'll get in either this cycle or another. Just keep your head in the game :)

After graduation, your class rank is what your class rank is. That said, have you considered taking the ADAT? A very solid score might slightly help offset a subpar GPA/class rank. I was told by a program director around only 40 peds applicants took it last year out of the 500 or so that applied. Would it be a major factor in your application? Probably not, but it’s one more thing you can put out there.

I took the ADAT last year. Let me be the first to say that is super annoying...
But the DC program director said it would help distinguish applicants... so take it for what its worth

Thank you so much for sharing with me! You sound like a great candidate yourself. I also have been doing OCS (but I case select, I don’t do preschool kids or special needs. This is where I want to do peds so I am able to do more difficult cases!) The thing about OCS is my dental school peds faculty who did a rec letter for me stated it can look really bad when general dentists do OCS and I should not talk about, so I mention on CV I have OCS license but I do not talk about it. I had another peds dentists (from DOCS education) tell me some programs just do not want dentists with so much peds experience bc they feel like they might not be teachable. I disagree, we want to taught hence why we are applying lol.

I graduated with 3.4 GPA, so it’s def not competitive. I agree, we can’t do much about our grades now!

Good idea on doing community involved activities! I do help set up dental van at different locations in Bay Area San Francisco on Saturday’s through WIC (woman, infant, children), the families are so sweet and it’s so rewarding!

My dental school peds faculty rec if this cycle doesn’t work, the next I try to shadow peds more often, maybe try to get a day of work at peds vs only children’s. I think I’ll also look into ADAT.

I agree, def can not give up this race! Anyone else have any advice, please let us know :)

What did you use to study for ADAT? Is it essentially like NBDE part 1/2?

I'm currently looking at the ADAT knockout. Very similar format as NBDE. Multiple choice practice exams that give you explanations. Lots of random clinical and biomedical science related questions.

For people like myself who took part 1 TEN YEARS AGO, I feel like I would have to refer back to old textbooks... but honestly, I'm just going to review these practice tests and see where that goes.

Hi all, and congratulations to those with interviews. I just wanted to offer my service to those preparing for interviews. I was fortunate enough to have success in last years cycle, and feel like it’s only right that I pay it forward. I feel like it would be more helpful to discuss specific program interviews, so I’m going to post a list of some of the schools I interviewed with that I remember well. If you would like advice on any of these programs, PM me and I’ll try to be as specific as possible.
