**Official 2022 Peds PASS/Interviews/Match/Non-Match**

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did everyone send thank you emails after interviewing? Is it horrible that I haven’t? Didn’t realize it was a thing
I haven't yet... I am only sending them to my top 4 program and they will all be the exact same email with some names changed.

As with all areas of academia, thank you notes are commonplace and you cannot really do them wrong any way you choose to do them (outside of trying to send an edible arrangement or something which would be really weird  ).

I finally have one interview. Can someone share how they prepared for the interviews and what worked for them? How many mock interviews ? Any resources? This is the only shot I have.
I do my absolute best when I look up the interviewers online and just kind of see their interests/research/history. I do that about 2-3 days before the interview and then I do NO (0%) prep.

I 100% believe that they just want to see you as a person. Over prep can make you look robotic and really uncomfortable.

Just my $0.02

When you say "this is the only shot I have" it can mean that you are at a much higher risk for over-preparing and putting too much weight on a 2-hour encounter and coming off as not yourself. So, do be careful :luck:

Do you think its best to rank based on money/location. Or rank based on where you would be truly happy.
Honestly, I think I can be happy anywhere.

If my choice is between a program that pays you 60k per year that I felt that I might not enjoy fully and a program that costs 140k for two years (not including housing) that I would absolutely love..... I would choose the program that pays me every. single. time.

Two years of "loving a program" are not worth an opportunity cost of $260k+. Those numbers are no joke.

Also, there is no way to know you would be truly happy at a certain program. You can guess based on the information provided to you... But, keep in mind that they are trying to sell you the program when you interview or you are on externship. The stark reality of most programs is that your experience is largely determined by the residents that match with you and are spending every day with you for two years. So, even the BEST program right now (in your eyes) can match with a bunch of toxic people next year and be horrible.

That is my long-winded way of saying I would always choose money/location. It is very much an opinion and I am sure someone can come on here and make very strong arguments for being "truly happy no matter what". But, as someone that finished paying off $200,000 in student loans recently, I don't take the financial aspect of residency lightly.

With all this said, there are some instances where you would only make a net $10k per year at one program and another program that you imagine you would be truly happy at nets you about 2k per year and obviously that decision is a lot more nuanced.

Good luck with decision-making :luck:

Here is the update for the last 7 programs:

Jamaica Hospital - Had a meet and greet; no interviews will be given outside of the group at the meet and greet
Loma Linda University - Sent out invites this year already. They will send a small second batch if they do not have enough people they like
Staten Island University Hospital - Confirmed that NO interviews have been sent out yet as of 11/17
Mount Sinai Hospital - Sent out invites last year on 11/25; this years invites are expected to follow the same timeline
University of British Columbia - Sent out invites last year on 10/24; no other info available
University of Puerto Rico - Already sent out invites this year; no other info available
Wyckoff Heights Medical Center - Sent out invites last year on 11/19; interviews expected to come out soon

Everyone who attended in person Socials, please share your experience!!

Anyone know if schools/programs care about class ranks after the interview ? Like if I got the interview will schools rank me lower because of my class rank?

Lots of mingling with residents and faculty. Some will even have cocktails. Just be yourself and work the room. Let them get to know you outside of dentistry.

Match question-
What do we do if there is a program you realized don’t want to go to after interviews ? Do you have to rank that program ?

You shouldn’t rank a program you don’t want to attend. If an applicant matches at a program, he/she must abide by the contract and attend the program.

A current resident reached out a week or so ago to answer any questions pre-interview and it sounded like all of the 20 interviewees are confirmed. Just wanted to provide an update.
Did you receive an interview there? I confirmed my interview acceptance the day we received emails and haven't heard anything at all yet lol...now I'm confused!

I got an email back from Dr. Chase within the hour that said essentially "Great! We will see you in December"

Then a resident reached out to me recently to answer any questions about the program.

Still no news from The Mount Sinai Hospital? Seems pretty late in the month.

Yeah, it seems late but last year they sent them out the day before Thanksgiving.

Hope everyone waiting for them gets an email soon :luck:

What is post-match like for pedo? Do most programs have spots available or do they pretty much fill there positions now? Have a few programs I wanted to apply to but decided not too and just wanted to see my chances in post match if anyone has any info?

From what I saw last year, there were only a few programs with post-match spots and they get filled up quickly. Most programs don't have post-match spots available.

Wow, those interviews are barely being handed out two weeks before the rank lists open. CONGRATS EVERYONE!

We have no info on Wyckoff.

(We know that Loma Linda, British Columbia, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico have already given interviews out)

Any info on these programs, let me know!

Wyckoff said that they are still working through the applications and didn’t have a date for when invites will be sent! 🤷

So my match account says that I did not participate in phase 1 (obviously) and that's what my account was set to but someone said to not worry about it and you will automatically be put into phase 2. I just wanted to double check and see what everyone else on here has? My account says "You did not participate in the match"

Yeah, mine says "phase I match results: You did not participate in the match"

But, under status is says "active" and when I click the side bar where it says "rankings" it says that they will open up on December 13th.

Good morning!! I’ve been invited to Mount Sinai yesterday but received an email saying Dec 13th is full. I am willing to compensate for a switch from Dec 20 to Dec 13th. I really like to attend the Dec 13th interview. Please PM asap

Hey!
Can anyone tell me why NYU Langone Phoenix is taking post-match candidates?

has anyone heard about the NYU langone Columbia MO program? it's relatively new and I was wondering if it seemed like a harder program?

It will be available at noon (EST) on January 24th on the dental match website. You can start contacting schools about post-match spots as soon as that list is posted.

What are some good questions to ask during the virtual q&a session with the residents?
