Sounds like everyone is going to Europe. I'm using my vacation to spend a few weeks in my country in South America and a few weeks in my SO's home country in Central America.

If I start school in June we have to go in April. Otherwise June if I choose somewhere else.

Any suggestions for non-touristy stuff to do in Peru and/or Bolivia? I'll be backpacking through those countries this summer!

yo, whats happening y'all.... the meme game has been seriously lacking these last few days....Posting dank memes won't show up on your background checks people...I swear the neuroticism on SDN is real... I just realized that neuroticism rhymes with eroticism...Anyways I hope y'all keep me entertained while I am at work.... Can't wait for school to start

Try out all the amazing different foods that Peru has, their gastronomy is insane. If you like seafood try ceviche (has to be a good restaurant lol) Or also check out machu pichu , its beautiful and its one of the new 7 wonders of the world. If you like snowboarding, you could try sand boarding which is preety cool. There's ton of stuff to do there !

Pro tip: Best ceviche is always from the street vendors.

Are you by yourself? While in only barely familiar with those two countries, I always caution foreigners who are by themselves not to try the gun-hi approach of doing the non-touristy stuff. In all seriousness, it poses a new level of danger that you really can't foresee.

Always wanted an R8.

But I think I'll be married and have kids by the time I finish residency so might be smarter to invest in a family car. Maybe during my midlife crisis ... lol

I know it isn't really necessary to have big $$ to buy one, but I am definitely getting a mini cooper. I've always wanted one and I've been told multiple times how well it fits my personality (although I'm not sure how one's personality can fit a car, I guess feel that 'fit')

the surgeon that I scribe for drives one 😎

Whhatttt? You scribe for a surgeon, that sounds awesome! I want to know some details?!
hahah it's outpatient clinical hours stuff! lots of post-op visits and consultations, nothing too exciting

but ask away! what would you like to know?

For some reason I imagined you in an operating room, typing away while they performed surgery. But outpatient and consults makes way more sense haha! My bad 😀

What is everyone planning on wearing for white coat? Suit and tie? Business casual? Interview uniform?

Drink the water.
Haha any ideas for safe* non-touristy stuff to do
seriously tho, be careful to always order hot drinks when you go out to cafes. was mindful to not drink the water in nepal, but ordered a special mocha frapp (topped with a nice waffle wafer!!) with a couple of my friends...:barf: and exhaustion a couple hours after..

I seriously don't own any business casual. Not even sure what to buy.

Pretty much just what you wore on interviews but without a suit. Buy a bunch of dress shirts and ties. Men's Wearhouse is a good place to start. You'll probably need a decent amount of business casual for any clinical stuff you'll have to do, especially for rotations 3rd year.

I thought business casual was polo shirts with khakis . If it is just suit pants with a collar shirt and tie, I guess I have plenty of those.

More like khakis with non-white button ups. But polos are too casual.

Thought I could help the guys out since I am just a few months removed from my ceremony.

Bottoms: chinos, khakis, or suit pants. For the love of all that is holy...make sure they fit. No blown out asses, scrunching (on the ankle), or wide legs. At my ceremony, only a handful of guys wore actual suit pants. Fit of pant > type of pant.
-colors: navy, khaki, black, gray/charcoal

Tops: dress shirt (w/tie)
-shirt colors: light blue, gray, and white are most prevalent

Shoes: anything leather. I saw chukkas, chelsea boots, desert boots, wingtips, etc. Just make sure it looks good. Your shoes must match your belt (a hard concept for some).

Ive probably worn desert boots every single day for the last couple years. Don't really see them as being a good choice for an event as important as a WC ceremony
Important?🙄

Once you throw on the coat that probably costs $25 but feels like $5...your tune will change.

I get it...it is a symbol of the profession and of your hard work. But once you go through it you will see it for what it is.

And my desert boots cost over $150. They look great with everything. You will have classmates wearing payless and target.
