Oregon State c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ohhh congrats!!!!! -- I spoke too soon for today haha.

The email didn’t say anything about WICHE or non-resident. However, I am a WICHE state student.

My email said:

"you've been offered a non-resident position...........
If you receive funding from your state WICHE program, this non-resident offer will be converted to a WICHE offer"

So I think it is only WICHE states today maybe?

“Thank you for your interest in Oregon State University Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine. You have been selected as an alternate in this year’s application cycle for the DVM Degree program. This should be looked at as an accomplishment. The status of alternate means that the Admissions Committee viewed your application as worthy of an offer, however, at this time they are unable to extend any offers as we have limited positions available each year for admission ......”

OOS non-wiche haven’t heard back yet. I’m super nervous and afraid it may be a rejection. I applied last year and had received my rejection December 11 so feeling extra nervous that I haven’t heard anything yet.

Don’t stress yet! As far as I know, no OOS non-wiche have heard yet!

Just got an interview! IS!
IS interview invite
Congrats! I actually liked the MMI format of the interviews and felt they were less stressful than others overall

For non-WICHE OOS people, I wouldn't be surprised if you hear today. I have no insider info so I don't want to get your hopes up or anything. But it is the last day before Winter break for us. I don't know what the admission's committees plans are for next week or anything though and I also don't know when OOS people have heard historically (but for some reason I remember it being before I was notified about an interview?). Good luck!

Historically it seems like OOS non-WICHE hears back the week after winter break starts so I think it'll be the 16th or 17th!
Really? It seems like last years thread everyone found out before the 13th

Edit: same with 2022 thread.

Definitely see what you’re saying, but if you look at the academic calendars for those years you see the same pattern with respect to winter break dates! http://oregonstate.edu/registrar/pdf/osu-5-year-calendar-summer-first-2019-2020.pdf

As a non-WICHE OOS student who applied last year, I agree. Based on that chart I got an alternate decision on the Tuesday following finals week last year (dec 11).

As a superstitious person I don’t want to hear back on Friday the 13th anyway!!! Haha

So if I haven’t heard anything should I assume I was rejected? They haven’t said a peep to me

Same. I have a spreadsheet organizing the 21 schools I applied to
Diddo! 19

I applied to 6 schools and I needed a spreadsheet to keep them straight in my mind, haha. My boss loves my spreadsheets though because I went through our entire inventory across four locations and now we get updates on when medications/supplies expire and when we need to reorder, she was just checking it every week item by item previously...

For the MMI interview do you get asked questions from your own personal experiences or are they generic questions that everyone that day interviewing has to answer? Just wondering how I should prepare for it.

AFAIK, MMIs were specifically designed to be a way to evaluate candidates in a way that it considered more fair. Thus, everyone gets the same questions. Beyond that I can’t talk about the specific questions as I signed something I saying I wouldn’t.
I have a book recommendation I can pull up later if you want, though it is focused more on medical school.

Pretty sure this is the book I read
Although the examples it gives are more applicable to med school, I feel like it was useful in prepping and understanding what kind of questions they may ask.
Additionally, if you get an interview as in IS student, there is a very high likelihood of acceptance. I would have to go back and look at the thread from my year, but there are 40 in state slots and they def didn't interview more than 60 people (and it was prob more like 50).

I was talking with someone on the admissions committee yesterday. I can't remember the exact number, but around 70 IS got interview invites this year.

Hm that's weird. I just went back and looked and was told 55 applicants for 40 slots for my year. I have no idea how they would fit in 70 interviews in one day.
