OSU-COM Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That could be nice however being engaged and about married I have to agree with the just ones point. However, gl and hope it works out.

In other news, can't wait for the 20th to get here!

I was just wondering if someone could enlighten me more about the interviewers, adcom and interview rounds?

Is a round all the interviews in a month? two weeks? I interview tomorrow (thurs), what round would I be in?

Does anyone know how often the admissions committee meets? After your interview you get a score from the interviewers and then they see your numbers and you get another score. Do these same interviewers come back as part of the adcom to present you to the rest of the adcom? Or is the adcom completely different set of people who just look through the scores and feedback your interviewers gave you w/o ever actually talking to the interviewers?

I also gotta say thanks to all the posters on this thread! Y'all are so helpful, makes me even more excited to get a call next week saying accepted!

A round is typically 3 days and cosists of. Wed, Thursday, and Friday. I have no clue what round were in now but probably 12 or later.

As to the rest of your questions, I have no solid clue. My guess would they score your interview independently and then score your stats and then present to one or multiple members of the adcom their opinions either directly or written. The adcom then can review any file at any time which means waitlisters can be called at any time.

I think the adcom will meet one maybe two or three more times to hand out the final acceptances and to finalize the waitlist at which they will notify everyon if they're on it or send the rest denials.

I am extremely excited! I think it will be kinda weird because we will all be going around wondering if the person we are talking to is on SDN...I can't wait!!

I got the call friday to interview the 19th. anyone else interviewing that week?

Goodluck! Are they in the final pool for applicants? It seems like it has been forever since someone got the call...

In the past there usually have been some interviews into March or early April. There is waitlist movement much later than that. The last person pulled off the waitlist in my class was called the day before orientation started.

Congrats Saylorsdad and goodluck. My brother is interviewing that Thurs.

They interview until April. At my interview last Thurs, they said the AdCom would be meeting early this week, either today or tomorrow or maybe wed. I believe they meet after every group of interview days.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that I just got the call from Dr. Stewart, I'm in. I interviewed November 12th I believe, so it has been quite a long wait. Here are my stats since I know its going to be asked.
College: OSU
Major: Physiology/Microbiology Senior

S-GPA: 3.75
MCAT - 230 (which is what held me back- no excuses just didn't perform)
Occupation: I am a med tech at an Orthopedic clinic, work in surgery 30+ hours a week.
Shadowing: 200+ hours from a variety of areas.
Volunteer: 200+, hospice, hospital, nursing home, etc.

Congrats! Thats so great for you to be off the waitlist! If you dont mind me asking, after your interview when you found out you were waitlisted, did you call the office? What did they say you needed to improve?

Congrats join up with facebook (see my signture) and hope to see you at accepted student day.

Yes, I did call a few times, Lindsey knew me by name, she is totally awesome and extremely helpful. She said the only thing the committee thought I needed to improve was the MCAT. She said my interview score, GPA, shadowing etc was fine. She recommended I retake the MCAT Janurary 29th, which I originally signed up for and studied for about 3 weeks when I decided that probably wasn't adequate enough time. So I called her back and told her if I had to retake the MCAT it would be for the next matriculation class and she completely understood. The only thing I did to update my application was to send in my updated transcript which was pretty good, 7 more hours of upper division sciences including Biochem which I heard they favor heavily on (as to how true that is I have no idea). Did you guys get an email at all? Or just the phone call and the packet? What exactly is in the packet? She said I should receive it on Wednesday and baring that it isn't a mistake if the package doesn't come on Wednesday I may have a heart attack.

The packet includes a few forms to fill out: substance abuse, physical, immunizations, intention to attend, that's about it

at this point it may include an invitation to admitted students day

ugh, I'm much worse at this waiting game then I thought I'd be!

Congrats Magical! Don't know if you remember, but we interviewed together.

Thank ya. Of course I remember you. Congrats to you as well. I'm assuming you'll be there the 20th?

I think we should all add our SDN names to our name tags...lol...just kidding....but seriously

Haha I will. It would be good to connect names with faces

I will.

I see no problem doing that -I would have different feelings
concerning some of the other school threads with all their fighting.

Dont sweat it bellak - Several of us got in off the waitlist, and Ive heard that it moves all the way til school starts.

As an aside - has anyone from Jan/Feb interviews got accepted? Or all waitlisted?

Howdy yall (yes I'm from Texas haha...specifically Texas A&M). I'm a bit late starting with this thread but I was just wondering if anyone knows how many of the out of state interviews were accepted. I have mine on the 19th of this month and I'm getting a little nervous...I was pretty excited that I landed out since they only give about 30 ish. Also, how long does it take to find out if you get accepted or waitlisted? Do they call or email or mail something out? Lastly, any late interview tips? I've read that they are very relaxed and I hope that is true...

Yes your are walking in at the bottom of the ninth, but that doesn't mean a homerun isn't possible... lol

Anyways, GL with the interview.

A few concise tips:
Relax
Relax
Relax
Relax
And... Relax.
Interviews will be conversational, laid back, and directly oriented towards you. They will start off with some basics like tell us about you, why medicine, why DO, and start to dig deeper as you go.

As to the acceptance and waitlists:
Acceptance = Phone call with followup Fedex packet
Waitlist = Snail mail letter with no phone call.
Denial = Same as waitlist.

Thanks for the info...i saw a couple of out of state acceptances, makes me nervous but congrats! for those out of state who got accepted, about how long did it take to find out?

The one in my interview round (1st round) found out the same date as us. To the others, they were waitlisted and pulled after a few rounds.

interview went pretty good friday a pretty good group of people were there. hope to get a call soon.

yes I did made the final waitlist last year.

Do you feel like this is your year? Did they mention anything about it in the interview? I had a couple of classes with someone that made the final wait list last year, and she reapplied this year as well. Did they tell you the hold up last year? Hope it goes well for you.

interview went well. I retook mcat did more volunteering and shadowing. I brought up last year but they already knew I just was first to say something. it is a toss up since every applicant is strong it just depends on what they are looking for.

How did admitted students day go? did they say if the class was full?

They did not say if the class was full (I would suspect not) but they did say 45 admitted students attended Saturday. I would guess not everyone admitted showed up. My pure guess would be the class is 2/3 full.

It was a good day to remind some of us that it is in fact a reality ( sometimes I wonder). Not really any new information if you had visited the school before the interview day. Just good to interact with people that might be with you for the next 4+ years.

I asked Lindsey how many slots were still open, and she said that information was confidential, but that there were still slots open. SO, I was trying to look out for you guys on the waitlist, but couldn't get any good info 😉

Thanks anyway, lol. I think they interview until April and they try to keep at least a couple spots open in the class until the last interview day incase someone amazing comes along...

45 attended, some werent there I'm sure (but not many I would think). Also, the Bridge and Grad students who are joining our class were not there.

Do they count against our class spots, since they graduate with us, or with the class they matriculated in with?

I was told they interview until first part of March.

Are u going to TECH or OSU? I see u were accepted to tech aswell. they are both wonderful schools and u won't go wrong in either place. best of luck.

I had a friend that went to Admitted Student Day. He told me that 1/2 of the people there were dating someone or were already married. And that almost 1/2 of the people married had kids! Haha, I just thought that was really funny/cool. Sorry if it was random, too. 😉

Its true lol. I was shocked at how many of the newly weds or atleast recently wed already had kids or were pregnant. My fiance and I will be married soon and I don't think I could handle the stress of school, a pregnant/post preg wife, and a newborn! Some brave soles out there.

Suprisingly, it seemed that it was almost all guys who represented the married folks. The chicks were more numbered in the singles

I was talking to an MSI during my interview day and he said that about 75% of his class was married or in a very serious relationship and it was about the same for the other classes as well...
