I had my interview yesterday and it was actually quite pleasant.

Questions were the same as the ones previously posted.

The atmosphere was awesome. I felt very relaxed all day.

Definately my number 1 choice.

The new building for research and forensics is nice. The Professors were very inviting for research opportunities and I quote "If you wanna do research come on down and talk to one of the professors at any time".

Over all experience 10. Stress level 3, and I consider a 3 normal anxiety.

This is amazing to hear. I am so excited for my interview. I've only heard really amazing things. The research thing is great too. I'm not sure I want to do medical research as a living, however I love doing it at school right now. You'll have to let us know if you get in!

when I was called for interview it was late december the january interviews are not even starting to fill up yet. even then the class will be only around half full so don't start sweating yet. remember osu does rolling admissions and will not fill the class with all first/second round. True it is better for early interview but there will be plenty of spots in the months ahead. Also don't forget about the bridge or masters programs the admissions process for those are different than the regular program. I have already been offered a few research positions for the summer that pay, i think, around $12 a hour. Only catch is you're capped at 20 hours a week; but it is a good way to pad the resume for residency and get a temporary job in the summer that you don't have to worry about pissing off a boss when you quit a few months later.

They told us within 2 Weeks. If you get a phone call, you are in, because they want to verify address before sending a packet via UPS.

If you get a letter it is either a wait list or reapplication.

I'm OOS as well. I heard in about 2 weeks but apparently this is unusual... If it said you were complete, then I'm sure they have everything. Just wait and see. Remember that only 36 OOS applicant got interviews last year... Don't let is discourage you yet! There's only been three rounds of interviews out so far so you still have lots of time.

BTW, I see you are from Texas. Did you apply to TCOM?

i interviewed there back in august. awesome school. they have two interviews and one of mine went really well, the other one not so much. (the guy kept looking at the clock when i was talking!)

I'm out of state but I'm dying for an interview there.. Ughhh! lol BUT if it makes you feel any better, I had an interview at AZCOM and one guy on my panel explained to me that he would be looking at the clock from time to time because he had to.. They were under strict rules to keep the interviews to a certain time-frame... He wanted me to know so I didn't feel he was uninterested in what I was saying. It was probably the same kind of thing that went on at your interview!

Sooo I know I am wayyy ahead of myself, but I was looking into some of places to live... It seems like there aren't many apartments walking distance, and the one that is (westport), no one seems to like living there. I was wondering if OSU did free parking or if they even have parking available?

Plenty of parking available, onsite parking of around 350 spots. I never have issues parking, only issue is being able to park close. Its not a bad walk, but can be annoying if you're running late. Parking is also FREE.

Westport is heavily talked about and the people I know that live there are alright with it, but i toured it and it definitely wasnt for me. If you want an apt, there are brand new apartments 10 miles due south. Since the school borders a major highway, its a 7-12 minute commute for me (from Nickel Creek Apts).

My wife and I will be purchasing a house soon, however. And by the way, few students actually live close by, many commute up to 30 miles each day.

i was concerned that I needed to spend a bunch of money on a new computer when i started school ... turns out that my 5 year old gateway does the job quite well. you will get loan money to cover a new computer if you want but if you had a good one from college, that should be just fine.

I'm interviewing on the 4th. As for laptops, I specifically got a Macbook for OSU-COM. Some of the students I visited with convinced me that the Macbook was the most reliable laptop, primarily due to battery life. I am not a big fan of Mac OSX (I still say Windows 7 is better) but the Macbook's build quality and battery life is second-to-none.

Now I sound like an Apple salesman

Okay, I'll give you the non-opinionated pros/cons of a tablet:

Pros: Portable, can carry "notebook style" for the anatomy lab practicals, can notate on the screen in Microsoft OneNote.

Cons: Most brands (HP, Fujitsu, Toshiba) build clunky style laptops, all the kinds I've seen at school run extremely hot (the hotter the shorter the life of the laptop), their specs are under par for current technology, 2-4 hour battery life at best, only beneficial in two classes really.

Now my opinion:
I love my mac, and this is coming from a recent convert who dissed Macs for over 10 years. I bought the almost fully load mid 2010 updated Macbook Pro 15". Its boot time is 14 seconds (4 gig of ram) largely stomping windows 7 boottime on my friends brand new alienware which is >30 seconds. I can easily get 7 hours of battery life and if I dim the screen and keep processes at a minimum, just over 8 hours.

Everything in school is compatible, only downside is the lack of porting one-note to the mac office suite (microsofts fault). One additional downside may be lugging it around in anatomy lab practicals, but its very minor and really not bad. You are able to run the histo software with minimal hitches and in my opinion, the pros of a mac outweigh the cons considerably.

iPad probably won't work. It's not a computer in the sense that you need to install software outside of ehat is available in Apple's app store. I would recommend a laptop. Like I said, I got a Macbook and I am really satisfied but any will do. Just FYI, all Macs come with a program called Boot Camp which let's you install Windows alongside OSX. Windows laptops are cheaper though.

iPad is a No-Go. You have to be able to run Lockdown Browser which requires OSX or Windows. iPad runs on the iOS software, same as the iPhone so is incompatible.

Nice! My interview was super relaxed and everything was kept pretty conversational. One thing that may or may not have already been noted is that the interviews are closed-file (no grades or MCAT). The interviewers only have your PS, your secondary, and activities from AACOMAS, so make sure you review those.

Oh, and they give you a brochure of all the nearby apartments with their monthly rates, etc. included for those of you that were wondering about housing options.

Yeah, i would think an earlier interview would signify a slightly higher chance of admission, as OSU COM partakes in rolling admissions. However, I think as long as you're not interviewing extremely late, your chance of admission wouldn't be very much lower.

To the interview question, yes and no.
OSU believes highly in rolling admission, so if you get wait listed, you still have a solid chance. Also, alot of those accepted early tend to use OSU as a safety net (sadly) and will withdraw come december when the deposit is due. You will see alot of people come off the waitlist from the early interviews in early January. And most directly, yet the largest percentage of acceptances come from the first few interview weeks.

If you arn't already aware, Apartments change their specials and rates quite often. The apartment I looked at in October when I interviewed was going for $850 monthly with no specials, I ended up looking again in March and it was $799 and had 1.5 months free rent. Took it then. I was just in the leasing office the other day and the rate is now $899 for my apartment!

For interview, pretty good. For acceptance, iffy. OOS is just a big toss-up all together and is a perfect storm. OSU looks at everything including activities, grades, tests, classes, extracurriculars, yatta... So with out of state, alot of this is more heavily scrutinized. So I honestly can't comment on being accepted.

Luckly they just finished the re-surfacing of 75 at the i-44 junction, but right now SW Blvd is also under construction (the only exit for the school off of 75) and today at 7:15 am I was stuck in traffic for 40 minutes and got to school with 5 minutes to spare (leaving from 81st and Union). A friend who lives in the same complex left at 7:45 and was in traffic until 9:00. Its friggin rediculous.

I land in Tulsa at 11pm... eeek, but I have a midterm that day and it was the only flight that worked. I leave at 7:55 on the 5th. I won't have a room anymore so I guess I'll just be doing the same as you and hang out in the airport.

In the Pros and Cons of Your DO School thread there is a review of OSU that makes OMM at the school sound terrible. It talks about having multiple professors teaching, repeat questions, questions with no right answer, and random grading on practicals, but the review is from 2007. Have you run into any of these problems?

OMM is fine. Yes there are multiple teachers, but there are many with every class here.

You have one core professor (a D.O. who teaches only) with many assistant professors who are D.O.s that are community practitioners and volunteer time to come in and help with class. In OMM lab, they break you down into small groups who have a mentor D.O. (the assistants) and alsa TAs.

Grading seems to be consistent, and since there are only two written tests and we've only had the mid-term, it seemed fair.

We have mini-practicals every 3-4 weeks which are easy 100's, they just check to make sure you're competent with the current skills we've learned and that you know landmarks.
