PNWU-COM (Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences) Discussion 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi all,

I'm waiting for a potential call today (they're calling today bc of the long wknd). Does anyone know around what time the calls are made? I'm a bit nervous bc my cell phone battery was out this morning.

Thanks,

Lulesy

I think they call all day. My call came at about 2:15 in the afternoon!!

Sending good vibes your way!!

I just wanted to say thank you guys for great information about PNWU and Yakima area. I am currently located in Arkansas and I will be interviewing on Feb 29th. This is my first interview and I am a little bit nervous. I was surprised they actually invited people from other areas. I hope my current residency will not limit my chances.

Pre-Dental? Is PNWU taking dental students now?

No, its brand new they are only offering a DO degree. It'll be at least 4 years before they add another branch to the school.

Just be calm, relaxed, and don't puke on anybody.
Gotcha 😉

I'm not too nervous. Actually, I'm pretty excited. Especially since it seems that everyone's really enjoyed their interview experience.

Less than 12 hours 'til I land in Yakima!

Anyone have any last minute advice?

Be confident in yourself.
Be interested in your surroundings.
Think on your feet.

Hey does anyone know when we will be getting a matriculation packet? Or has everyone already gotten it and I'm just left out?

I am so thrilled to be interviewing at PNUHSCOM!!! This school would be amazing! I just scheduled to be there in late March. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE! I never in a million years thought I'd be accepted for interviews!
WOO WEE! CLOUD NINE!!!
I want to thank you all for helping me learn more about the school from this thread. I'm sort of a lurker, although I post now and then.

I'm thrilled beyond belief!!!!!!!

Congrats. That is awesome! 👍

Interesting, I just got a call saying that they are filled and will still interview me if I am interested but my application will only be considered for the class of 2009 🙁 Bye, bye PNWU 🙁

Things are not looking good for me today

Hey, I'm really sorry to hear that. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a DCOM call this week. 😀

It is my own fault, I had to postpone my interview because I got sick and couldn't afford to miss anymore time at school, i knew I was taking a chance

Well, hopefully it will all work out for the best. Being sick sucks. :luck:

PNWUHSCOM....That sure is pretty long and if we were to have a T-shirt made up...It would wrap around the entire body. hehehe

Congrats on the interview!

Thanks OCHO, Tachymeter, PrionsRBad, LauraDO, and everyone else. Just simply amazing. I, though, like Laura, am on the absolute tail end of the class (can you tell I'm from Texas with that jargon?) and even though they bumped my interview up, it still means we could be riding the same hog down to the slop. I can't worry. Just getting this far tells me things are good. I've just had a stellar day today. Life is great!

Congrats. That is awesome! 👍
Thanks TFunk too. The hardest thing to do is going to be to sit on my hands and WAIT! That still was the longest February I've ever had in my life!

I'm not sure that March will be much more restful waiting for that interview. Hopefully it will come fast with good news. :luck::luck:

Well, actually, I'm interviewing on the 14th, so not quite end of month. Bumped up a bit. Even so, it's just a stressful process. I'm ready for someone to throw me into a class somewhere!

I'm curious...where are they setting up their clinical rotations?

I'm curious...where are they setting up their clinical rotations?

Did anyone hear this in the interviews? I would love to know where they are setting up rotations. It would be cool if they could keep them all in Yakima, but I don't know if their hospital is big enough for that sort of thing. I couldn't find any info on their website.

Thanks!

Well from what I remember they said they had sites being set up in the states of Alaska (Anchorage), Washington, Idaho, Montana, and I think Oregon. They are trying to make sure they are sites where you can do several rotations so you don't have to move as often. Hopefully 4-6 month blocks according to what I remember. They also said that everyone should get whatever rotations they want since there isn't another class.

PS. Has anyone heard anything or gotten a matriculation packet yet? I sent in my money like a month ago and I haven't really heard anything else other than the occasional email from them.

I sent in my packet along with the deposit at the end of Dec. / Beginning of Jan. Haven't received a matriculation packet. I will find out more information on that for you this evening and let you know how PNWU is going about matriculation.

Poo. 🙁 I should have applied to PNWU, I 😍 Alaska. That would be pretty cool to do a rotation up there.

All right, so here's the deal.

I just got accepted 🙂

Unfortunately, the class is full 🙁 (There were only 5 spots or so open when I interviewed last week.)

But since I was given an acceptance by the committee, I'll be given an open spot ahead of the waitlist. And unlike those on the waitlist, I've been given automatic acceptance for 2009.

So overall, good news for me, but obviously with some of the edge taken off. Oh well... I'm crossing my fingers for 2008!

(The lesson here is, apply early! Especially with such a small class.)

I'm going to interview up there on March 14th too and what I was told by the admissions people was this interview day will be for a spot in the 2009 entering class, or acceptance into 2008 ahead of the "waitlist." Wouldn't it be nice to be done with all this and at least have a confirmed spot for next year!🙂

Just to clear up any misinformation. We are doing interviews that are scheduled into May. March is not the end of interviews. It is true that we are almost full so you can end up with one of three options. 1. turned down 2. waitlisted 3. given an acceptance for 2009 which would mean you are in and don't have to go through applications and interviews next year. We like many other schools are on rolling admissions and if we like you we will give you an offer for the following year.

Bump to the top for an awesome new school. 👍

Also the school updated its web page, looks much better now, check it out. www.pnwu.org

I called the school yesterday and found out that the matriculation packets should be in the mail soon. I am going to be in Yakima this next week so she said she would hold mine until then. I saw a couple posts refering to that so I thought would let you all know.

I am really wishing that I would have applied to this school this year. I found out about it too late in the game. If I have to reapply next year, which I am expecting, I am definitely applying to this school! It seems amazing all around.👍

I just got the call, I have been accepted into the 2009 class and I'm on the waitlist for this year. I am so excited! Yakima here I come!👍

hey guys,
is this the correct address where interviews are conducted:

Pacific Northwest University
of Health Sciences
111 S. 33rd St., Suite 104
Yakima, WA 98901

???

thanks for the help, i am trying to find a nearby hotel so i dont get lost looking for the school on the day of the interview!
-matt

Yes...that's the correct address. I'd recommend staying at the Oxford Suites as recommended/offered by the school. It's nice, a really good deal, and less than 5-6 blocks from the school.

Finding the school is extremely easy...it really stands out, just mapquest it and you'd be hardpressed to miss it when driving there. Yakima is a very easy city to negotiate...all the streets are numbered (so it's truly idiot proof) and there really isn't any traffic there...you'll be just fine.

PNWU is a really nice place...good luck in your interview!

Does anyone know where the clinical sites are in Montana?

I know that they have sights in Montona already set up, but I cannot remember where. When I was there though I was told that if I wanted to try and set up a place of my own that I was welcome too. I've already talked with my local doctor in my hometown and it looks like that may work out for me.

It's pretty well known here, I'm a waitlister...dying for an admission to the '08 class...who neurotically checks this thread 8 to 10 times a day hunting for any new info. Accordingly...I will post my weekly/bi-weekly question to those that have recently interviewed and to everyone else...any new news out of PNWU? Accepted, waitlisted, class of '09 admits, remaining # of seats, ??? Would love to hear anything new.

I have three interviews the week of April 14th. I applied really late... I'm afraid I'll get wait-listed if I even get an acceptance, but at least there's that. I live in Ohio and interview in LECOM Erie on the Monday, then off to LECOM Bradenton on Wednesday, THEN off to Pacific Northwest on Friday! Whoo! Are the interview questions and set up pretty similar between the two LECOM campuses? And what are the basic questions at PNWU? I want to study for my interviews... Heehee!😀 Thanks guys. 😉

unfortunately,
their questions are standardized, which means everyone gets the exact same questions. which also makes it unethical for those interviewed to post the interview questions. it gives an unfair advantage. im sorry for not being able to help out. damn morals =/
just be yourself =]

the SDN interview feedback page is not immoral.
i was just under the impression on the day of the interview that telling others which questions were asked would present an unfair advantage to the applicant with advanced knowledge. At least thats what the Associate Dean was saying to us as we waited in the lobby. I think this may be why they aren't listed in the database.

Interesting. I really don't see how that's immoral either. People may overprepare answers to those questions and sound rehearsed so knowing the questions would not be an automatic advantage.

well here are some tips that will help you on any interview:

http://www.mcatpearls.com/master/node17.html

http://www.mcatpearls.com/master/node18.html

but then again, i apparently interview abhorrently, and i followed the advice on those pages to a Tee...so you might not follow suit.

actually---after mulling over the interview in my head at great length...here is what i think sunk me: I said, "I am a fan of Barack Obama" and one of my interviewers almost choked in disgust. So--even though they say honesty is the best policy, it might not always go in your favor. That is just the nature of things though.

I checked the PNWU website today (Saturday the 5th) and noticed the home page now lists a new press release. The press release is dated 3/21...maybe it's been up for a while and I just never saw it until today. Anyways, it's titled "PNWU has its first class of students," and goes into detail about how the class is full and gives the class' respective stats...i.e. # of applicants, GPA and MCAT avg, # from the Pac. Northwest, etc.

I'm somewhat surprised that the press release was posted so early as I think interviews are still being conducted...anyone know if they've going to continue to interview...AND...if they are, what those interviewees are being offered? The general trend in posts recently has been that people seem to be getting either waitlisted or admitted to the 2009 class...with the caveat being that the 2009 admits get first priority for the 2008 class before those on the current waitlist.

Just another post from a nervous waitlister...Olywa 😕

MATT, THAT COMMENT SAYS MORE ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER THAN ANY INTERVIEW QUESTION COULD EVER HOPE TO LEARN ABOUT YOU. INTEGRITY IS HUGE, AND TOO OFTEN WE FALL TO PEER PRESSURE SO WE WONT OFFEND SOMEONE. WAY TO GO! I DO WISH YOU THE BEST.

BY THE BY, DID YOU GET IN OR DENIED?

That's strange. I'm visiting their website right now and I don't see the article that you are talking about. Do you mean http://www.pnuhs.org/ ?
