So this is not a Caribbean school and such belongs here with all other LCME schools. I had a few questions regarding the English requirements, etc. and wanted to talk with other applicants.

According to an e-mail that I received from them last week, you must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish. You have to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently. Some classes are taught in English and some in Spanish. The attachment that they sent about the application process was in Spanish. So you must know Spanish if you even think about going to this school.

Yup was a Spanish major, here time in Spain, etc. But they also require 12 credits of "English" which is impossible for me - I mean I have AP History, sociology, etc. which they said they would consider accepting.

When did you submit your primary? I have been certified for a while and haven't heard from Ponce.

I submitted June 7 and was verified June 11. Last week I got a couple of e-mails from them about the admissions process.

Same. Around June I was verified just got an e-mail a few days ago. Seems pretty easy the next steps minus going to the police station to get the report and I just requested all my transcripts. Still worried they won't be able to find 6 other credits of "English" in my courses (I have 3 from AP and 3 from comp. I have bunch of "writing intensive" AP history credits and poli sci courses which hopefully they'll accept). Buena suerte!

You do not have to be completely bilingual to go to Ponce. You DO need to know Spanish and be able to carry a conversation (aka your interview) in Spanish. The majority of the classes are taught in Spanish- hardly any in English. All books, exams etc are in English. The PR schools are very slow with the application process- some out of PR kids start getting interviews late December, the majority are Jan-Mar. Make sure you call and stay on top of them. If you have any other questions let me know!

Thanks - they've already received my secondary and cashed my check (only after I emailed them after a month) so I'll e-mail them in Dec/Jan to see what happens!

I just got my interview invite from Ponce today, asking me to tell them which dates are best for me... I haven't sent in any of my secondary materials yet, not even my check, so I guess I'll get those in this week. Is the interview in spanish? I'm pretty much bilingual, but more comfortable with english.

Hey me too!!!, I didn't even send my check, but they have my LORs at least. Hey where you from? I'm a Mainland Puerto Rican, born in puertorico, and raied in the Massachusetts. Very much bilingual.

I'm a FL resident, half 'rican, half cuban, born and raised in NYC. Do you know if they'll take a personal check for the fee? None of the other schools think we're good for it 🙄

Na, they only take money orders, go to your local postal office ask for one, and then just fill it out. Pretty easy thats how I sent mine out to all the schools that didn't use an online payment system. Whats up with the police back ground check before we are even matriculated, now I gotta go to the police station and have one sent. I wish medical school didn't have so much red tape!

Look above -I snet personal check - I thought this is what they said to do in the instructions - and they cashed it after I called them.

Do they tell you when all the "secondary" stuff are complete? Do I need to call them to verify they received everything or just chill out and wait. Estoy muy nervioso. :/

I have my interview on 11/11, ahhh that's soon! Anyone know of any good hotels in the area? I'll only be there for 2 nights since I have to work on friday 🙁

The interview is different for a number of people. Some people had group interviews, some people had two individual interviewers. Typically if you have an individual interview, one interviewer may be tougher than the other. In my interview one was completely in English, with the exception of her asking me to speak a little Spanish to hear it. The other was completely in Spanish- so you should be semi-comfortable in both. Places to say, the BEST places are either the Holiday Inn or Ponce Hilton- that being said, they're a distance away from the school... do you know how you'll be getting around? If anyone has any questions- feel free to message me.

Make sure to call and follow up, SUPER important for PR schools!

Thanks for the advice 🙂 I will be flying into San Juan because it ended up being about 200 dollars cheaper than Ponce, coming from Tampa via Miami. I'm gonna bite the bullet and rent a car in San Juan and make the drive to ponce, I figured it will be much more convenient than trying to arrange transportation, even though it will cost 30 bucks a day.

How did the interview go? Please Comment.

Anyone still out there from Ponce? I just received an interview invite! (finally).

I had both my interviews. One in Spanish and one in English. They each lasted a little over an hour. Still waiting for a committee response. Anyone hear anything yet?

Still waiting for a response too. I think the interviews vary. I had one group interview all in Spanish which lasted about an hour and had two other people. They said the committee was supposed to meet last week.... Guess I'll give them another week or two then give them a call.

I was told this morning that the committee met last week but didn't select any students but discuses related matters and that they would likely meet again next week.
