Did you get accepted to Einstein? If so, when did you interview and when did you hear?

Did you get financial aid packages yet?

I had to make the same choice (-Roch, +SUNY's). Basically, I've been advised to find the cheapest route to and MD and then really "gun" it for a residency.

You have to first ask if you can be happy at all of these schools. Then among the ones you can be happy in, choose the one with the best cost/benefit ratio. I couldn't be happy at Buff but to each his own as they say.

If leaving school unencumbered by a huge amount of debt is important to you, then you should really just go to SUNY Buffalo.

yea 18.5k tuition and lower cost of living will get you out of MD with very low relative debt.

If you could be happy in Buffalo, then go there. Personally, I can't see myself in Buffalo(turned down my interview) for geographical reasons. But if you can see yourself there, the added financial benefits might make it worthwhile.

I'm a NY state resident and price is really important...

but, I loved the other private schools I'm considering (more than Buffalo- but I did like Buffalo and I could be happy there)

I don't want to be so in debt after graduation though....

Does it really matter where I go?? Would it help me out much more later on to go to a school with more "prestige" ? Or does it not matter?

There's your answer. Enjoy SUNY Buffalo! Congrats!

I don't know which part of NY you hail from, but if you have never lived in North/Western NY, I would keep the weather in mind while making this decision.

I spent 5 years in Rochester, and the snow was enough to nearly drive me mad - driving to school everyday was not pleasant when it involved 30+ minutes of shoveling feet of snow off of my car and getting stuck in snowdrifts on my un-plowed side street. In Rochester and Buffalo, for nine months out of the year, the sky is cement-colored and the snow is heinous. It was enough to drive me away.

One has to wonder how unbiased and useful the recommendations from SDNers are, when it seems that many of the posters so far are sitting on the waitlist at a school that you've been accepted at... (for full disclosure, I'm on the wl at Buffalo).

Instead of letting any singular detail be the deciding factor in your decision, I think you should look at the big picture - the prestige factor, residency placement options, location, weather, tuition, and ultimately how YOU would feel about spending the next 4 years here. And try to not let us SDNers cloud your judgment because it's ultimately your decision to make.

ah ha ha ha -- you got me (and anfleisch), don't go to NYU! Buffalo is so much cheaper! Give the spot to one of us NYU waitlisters! To be fair, I am on the waitlist at BOTH Buffalo and NYU.

In the end, people are going to make their own decisions for their own reasons. Otherwise, every top applicant would end up in the same school. I am pretty sure most people have an initial order of schools in their head (for no apparent reason), and nothing can change it, except for maybe a huge financial incentive.

Thanks guys! If I go private, I am leaning towards Rochester... and I will be withdrawing from the others soon, promise.

Just wondering, but what makes you lean towards Rochester instead of Einstein or NYU ?
