Hi everyone, I was accepted and I’m really excited, but I read something about students not getting their excess loan funds given to them for living on. This has been going on over the last year and it’s a terrifying thing to worry about. Does anyone have information on this being not as straight forward as it’s been communicated? Current students with some kind of explanation? Are students getting kicked out of rentals because they can’t pay rent? Don’t have groceries? Thanks in advance for any clarification on this information. I mean wouldn’t they end up losing accreditation if they were doing this? I would think it’s illegal to keep funds from someone they belong to...it would technically be theft? PM me if you’re not comfortable putting info on here.

If you don’t get your refund, you can ask for a $5000 advance to get you by. The school will talk to your landlord if paying rent is an issue.

It was a huge problem last semester. I didn’t get my refund until week 5, and I was one of the lucky ones. This semester has been better but I know there’s still people in week 11 who don’t have money.

Apparently, there was a change in staff at the Chicago financial aid department, which is causing all these problems. They use the financial aid to pay your tuition then “accidentally” send your refund money back.

This sounds plausible. What I was told was a bit more sinister. Thank you for the clarification. It’s still a bit odd though...

So I was offered an interview on 11/15, but when I followed the link to pick my online interview date today, no months have any interview dates available. Does anyone know if this calendar is updated and if so, how long does it take to update? Thank you for any info!

I had the same issue when I got my interview invite a few weeks ago. I just emailed the person who sent my invite and they updated the calendar on the next business day with several new dates.

Thanks for the info! I emailed Jeanne, and she's adding more dates today!

To those of you who attend Ross, can you give some pros and cons for the school, curriculum, and living in St. Kitts. Also, what makes Ross stand out compared to other schools (besides it being a faster route in obtaining your vet degree)? Thanks in advance!!

Pros: tropical weather, countless beaches, you’re only here for two years, most of the US vet schools have clinical affiliations so chances are you’ll go somewhere you’ll want to go for clinical as long as you do well in the program. There are TA sessions that review everything we’ve gone over in classes that are free for students to attend, which can be very helpful when studying for exams. There’s a decent amount of hands on experience starting from the beginning, especially if you join one of the clubs on campus
Cons: You’re in a foreign country that takes some getting used to, groceries are expensive and often expired, the WiFi, power, and water can go out at anytime, they just changed how we’ll be testing ( block exams every week starting week 3) so I’m not sure how that will go, you’re far from home and there’s usually one one or two flights out. Your class size is LARGE (ours started at 190), which makes building relationships with professors difficult. It’s expensive, but honestly probably comparable to out of state tuition at most schools. Sometimes things are kinda disorganized which makes things even more stressful.
Honestly I went to Ross because with my gpa I didn’t think I would get into any other schools, and that’s how a lot of people that came here are. But the school is what you make of it and if you come with an open mind it can be a great experience!!

wow! what was the reason? did they say? do you mind sharing your stats? I am nervous now!

my academics. I’m surprised I was straight denied from both islands schools. My gpa was below a 3.0. I have already interviewed at westernu so yeah. I feel like I should have applied earlier for the island schools because of rolling admissions. Waiting on Iowa and LMU now.

That’s good you interviewed at westernu and still have 2 schools to hear from!!

Does anyone in the May class know what days we need to fly out to the island? I wanted to buy my tickets soon but I'm unsure of if there is a specific day we have to arrive...

Classes start May 4th, and usually the orientation starts the Monday before classes start. I’d double check with the school but they had people to pick us up if we arrived the Friday, Saturday, Sunday before orientation! Definitely ask the school to double check!!!

Has anyone in the September start date gotten any information? The “mailed packet”? I emailed and still have no info or response.

It was really easy going! just like a conversation. I interviewed with Jeanne and she made me feel super comfortable.

I wish all schools interviewed like Ross. They really want to hear your story! It’s like you’re just sharing information about yourself and they throw in a “why do you want to”, “tell me about a time when” here and there.

I just received an email regarding my admissions interview. I’m kind of nervous about this interview. I scheduled it next month. Can anyone tell me some questions they ask?

They will ask you the “why do you want to be a vet question” and various behavioral questions like “name a time when you had to work with someone you didn’t get along with and how did you do it”, but it is scattered around in them wanting to hear your story. This is a very personable interview, much like meeting a stranger and becoming friends with them? Just a friendly conversation type interview. I enjoyed it and felt a connection with my interviewer when I was done. I even hugged her (I was lucky for an in-person)! You genuinely feel like they want to know you.

Thank you so much I didn’t know they actually had in person interviews.

For those who have had the online interview- what did you guys end up wearing? Lol I am trying to figure out how to dress. Thanks in advance 🙂

I was thinking the same thing yesterday when I was looking at all the posts! Mine was November 13th!

If you’re a current student who goes to Ross, can I message you with some questions?

My interviewer offered to put me in contact with a current student to answer questions for me during my interview, I bet if you emailed your interviewer they’d be happy to do the same for you! She said they’re busy with finals right now but they’d be happy to get in touch after that winds down.

To anyone that lives on the island now, are there a lot of local coffee shops or anything like that that people hang out and study at? Or do most people just stay around campus to study?
