Hi, I have been accepted into Ross starting in September! I haven’t seen much about this, but is it possible for my boyfriend to move down with me? We were thinking he could come down the middle of the first semester or even the second semester and staying for the remainder of my time down there. But he will need a job, it seems like “VIPs “ work on campus, but how easy is it to find a job?
I would love any and all Information anyone has on this subject !!! Thank you in Advance!

I personally didn’t bring anyone, but lots of people do! Getting a work permit here is pretty difficult (you have to prove you have a skill that enables you to do a job that citizens can’t do) so most VIPs have a remote job or pick up small jobs (mechanic work, making some sort of craft, pet sitting, dog walking) to make some extra cash. A lot of the local restaurants and bars will hire VIPs under the table as well, so that might be the best bet if he wants a more steady job. I think the jobs on campus would be extremely limited—the only real one I can think of is the Hill’s store, but I know they won’t have an opening for at least three more semesters.

Hey all - so, disclaimer: I'm not an aspiring vet student. However, my partner is currently at Ross as are some of my friends. They have all been there for 4+ semesters now.

I wanted to just offer some caution to those considering enrolling this next semester. As you may or may not be aware, the curriculum has switched to block exams, and thus far it is kind of a mess. The students are really, really struggling, and were more or less forced into this switch despite having enrolled under the original curriculum. I do not want to speak too much on it, as I'm not experiencing it myself, but I'd advise you all to actively seek out the opinions of multiple current Ross Vet students on their thoughts on this new format as you weigh your options.

Best of luck to all of you!

Hey, guys! I was notified of my acceptance two weeks ago for May 2020. I got into Ohio State and I'm still waiting to hear back from 2 other schools I interviewed at, but I kindly sent an email telling the new student coordinator at Ross that I will not be accepting a seat at Ross. I hope this helps someone on the wait list! Congrats to everyone admitted and good luck to those still waiting!!

Hello guys!

I have a question regarding financial aids for any current Ross students that can please help.

I've already been awarded my financial aid for the May semester, along with the Grad PLUS Loan to cover my whole tuition. However, I will need to live off campus so I am still in need for funds to cover my remaining living expenses like rent, groceries, car, and such. What is the best possible way: private loans, personal loans, any other options? I would love to hear from other experiences.

I called the financial aid office to get a confirmation on this and they said if I were to apply for a private loan (example like Sallie Mae) Ross will not approve any amount of it since I have been given the full loan amount for my tuition (even though this clearly is not counting for living expenses outside of school). So now I am stuck on what to do next.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you all! And best of luck to everyone else still interviewing and congrats to those who got accepted. 🙂

I’ve lived off campus since first and my federal loans offer has always been enough to cover everything, so maybe check that you got offered the right amount? Federal loans are meant to cover total cost of attendance (which is both tuition and living expenses).

Also I would avoid private loans if at all possible, since they have the worst interest and stipulations. And Ross is already one of the pricier schools.

Thank you so much for replying! You're always saving me haha.

The financial aid office mentioned something about a reimbursement check I would be getting every semester especially since I am living off campus, is this what you mean? Cause they gave me a number of an "estimate" the check would be but to not count on it as the number can change every semester. Which is why I started to look into private loans to be safe. (As much as I don't want to considering the interest rates they have).

Yep, so the reimbursement is what you have left over after tuition is taken out! I just looked and this past semester I got back about $11,500. It’s more than enough for me to live off of and then I have some private debt with a higher interest rate that I use the remainder of that to pay off. Some people return some of the money though, that’s probably what I’ll do in the next semester or so once my private debt is paid off. It does vary a little semester to semester, but doesn’t change a crazy amount (I’ve never had it be more than a couple hundred bucks difference). I would say the only difficult thing is if you plan on buying a car right away. I paid 7k for mine because it was a 2012 and I wanted the least amount of issues (hopefully), but I would say most of the cars start at 4k or 5k. Always have the car checked out by a mechanic first but usually,
the lower the price of the car, the more you’re probably going to put into it. They have good resale values though!

Literally, the best answer ever. THANK YOU! How far into the semester do you get that check? Cause I found an apartment and I will be signing the lease this weekend, and putting down the deposit to cover my first month rent, and wanted to see if that check would come in time for the my second month and also to cover groceries and other expenses while I'm there.

As for the car details, yes thank you! That's another thing I am looking into and need to account for.

Potential stupid question that is slightly related: where would we apply for aid for Ross? Was it an option for FAFSA? Or do we only go through Grad PLUS?

Thanks in advance

It usually gets disbursed 10 days before classes start (if you do direct deposit into US account), if opening an island account you pick up a check during check in during orientation week! Personally I do direct deposit and love it, but everyone’s different!

I interviewed 30 December and heard back a little over a week ago. I was offered a position into vet prep. My question is has anyone gotten any feedback from them as to why they were chosen for vet prep and not directly offered a position? I would like to know the reason why. I know what my academic trends are (even though my cumulative is low), I have strong GPAs with all Pre-reqs, science only, and last 65 hrs. I also just received a masters in Biology with a 3.9. So I have a hard time believing that they feel I need to be strengthened academically. Just wondering if they would be willing to give feedback as to what was lacking that warranted an offer to vet prep. Thanks everyone and congrats to everybody who received acceptances!

I was never directly told when I asked my interviewer this same question. I just assumed it was my lower than average GRE scores. I started Vet Prep in January. Don't let it fool you...it's alot of work! I have several first semester friends that have said they wished they had been offered Vet Prep instead of being admitted directly to first semester. The only downfall is that it that the tuition is not covered by financial aid.

Don't be discouraged. I too was disappointed about being offered Vet Prep but if you do decide to attend, you will be more than prepared for first semester and will be able to grasp the information easier. It may not be for you but I'm certainly glad I chose to go!

Hello I just got accepted for this upcoming semester. I am really excited. Also congrats to all of you that got into Ross and elsewhere.

Hey all, I've been accepted for Fall 2020. I was wondering if there's any kind of portal or page where we can learn more about our housing options while at Ross. After living independently for many years, the idea of dorm room living is pretty unattractive, so I'm looking to see what people who are not looking to live in dorms are doing.

Thanks!

Off campus housing

I didn’t want to live in the dorms either and lived off campus from the get go. There are several different areas students live in, but none of them are more than 15 mins to get to school.

I definitely would join the Ross University Students group on Facebook. Students can give advice about different areas, apartment/landlord recs, etc. It was a great resource for me when I was moving down!

Hello everyone! Ive been accepted to Ross for the summer 2020 semester! I have a question, so I start this summer, and I should be licensed by fall 2023. Now we don't actually recieve our degrees from Ross until May 2024 at graduation (or by mail at that time). So can I still get a job or do my residency before I even get my degree??? I'll be licensed so I should be able to practice right? Or does it depend where you end up working? Thanks!

I will most likely be declining my seat for the fall! Hopefully this will help someone!

If you’re starting in May/summer semester you will actually be considered Class of 2023 and will walk in May 2023 graduation ceremony (even though you technically won’t be done with clinics until August 2023). I started in May last year so it’s the same for me, except 2022. But you are able to start working as soon as you’ve completed your clinical year and passed NAVLE, it doesn’t matter if you have walked at graduation ceremony or not (as far as I know). Start dates for residencies might be at certain times so that might possibly be something that doesn’t line up/might have to wait a few months.

Are you sure? I asked someone from the school about graduation because my class Facebook page says "class 2024", and they told me that we would graduate in May 2024 if we start this May.

Maybe it's a new way of doing things?

If you’re starting 1st and not Vet Prep this May, should be 2023. I’m in Blue and we’re the last class for 2022, then there’s Pink (started last Sept), followed by Black (started last month). So next up will be Green starting in May, which will be the third and last class for 2023. If you’re starting Vet Prep though, you’ll be in Purple, which will be first class of 2024 (starts with Green, but will technically be baby Purple).

Hey ! Does anyone know anyone who has been rejected into Ross? And not offered even the Vet Prep program?

Any current Rossies I could get in contact with? Having a hard time deciding whether or not Ross will be for me.

What loans do you guys recommend for Vet Prep? I am waiting on making a decision but I am not sure how to go about paying for Vet Prep? Also is the entire payment due at the beginning of the term or do they give payment plans?

I don’t have any specific recs for Vet Prep loans, but I would just try and find the one with the lowest possible interest since it’s a private loan. I do know that people will use some of their federal loans that they get in 1st+ to pay off the private loan, since the federal loans have better interest rates, forgiveness under certain conditions, etc.

I’m curious who people went through to get student loans? What was your interest rates?

If for Vet Prep, no personal recs but see my comment above. For 1st and above, you just apply for federal loans which cover tuition & cost of living. I just looked and my Stafford loans have 6% interest and my Grad Plus loans have 7% interest.

Hey all, I got into my first choice so I will be giving up my seat for this fall. Good luck and hopefully that helps someone out!
