To anyone that lives on the island now, are there a lot of local coffee shops or anything like that that people hang out and study at? Or do most people just stay around campus to study?
The Mill is a popular place to study. It’s a cute little coffee shop in frigate.

There’s also rituals coffee in frigate. We have a rituals in the union too.

Mangoland is outdoors, maybe not a great study spot but they have good food and coffee.

The Marriott is also an option, but they sometimes get mad at students for studying there. It’s hit or miss. I’ve never personally had a problem.

Sweet and Savory is a cute study spot. They have breakfast, lunch, and dinner but are known for their desserts.

To anyone that lives on the island now, how often are you able to go home each year?

I go home every break, so three times a year. I’ve also left in the middle of the semester for a wedding.

I have a travel rewards credit card I use for almost everything so I get some money back from flights.

Mangoland is the best. Agree not the best place to study (at least for me too), but hands down the best coffee on the island!

1. I asked about research and how students are able to get involved in it because they just built a new building.

2. I asked about off campus housing and how it’s set up and chosen amongst students.

3. I also asked about clinical placements and the specifics involved in how you are placed (is it based on gpa, your own choice etc?.)

Honestly, I asked a bunch of questions and my interviewer didn’t seem to mind! These are just the big 3 I wanted to ask specifically. I was told I would get a decision late January/early February. Good luck, I’m sure you’ll do wonderful!!

Would any one who was accepted be willing to share your stats? Like your GPA, GRE score, veterinary experience hours, research hours? I’d really appreciate it!!!

My GPA is a little on the low side. My overall is 3.27 (from three schools, 3.21 where I got my BS) and my science is a 3.25, but my last 45 makes up for those a little at 3.71. On the GRE I had a 155 verbal, 160 quant and 4.5 writing. I have over 1200 hours in a biomedical research lab where I’m the primary surgeon. As far as vet experience, I have over 4000 hours of small animal, about 60 exotic, and none for large animal. I think what helped me was my research and animal experience, also I’m a little different because my degree is in chemical engineering.

Would any one who was accepted be willing to share your stats? Like your GPA, GRE score, veterinary experience hours, research hours? I’d really appreciate it!!!

I started in May 2019 (was accepted in Jan, so almost a year ago). Mine were:

First (and only) application cycle:
Overall GPA: 2.82
Science Prerequisite GPA: 2.55
Last 45 GPA: 2.90

GRE (Q/V/W): One attempt: 154 (55%)/ 160 (86%)/ 3.5 (40%)

Veterinary Experience: ~7,000 hrs
Animal Experience: ~7,800 hrs
Research: ~450 hrs
Non-Animal Employment: ~10,200 hrs

I feel really lucky to have been given this opportunity by Ross (honestly I thought no school would wanna touch me with a ten foot pole) and I think my GRE and experience really helped me to get accepted. Also, I’m doing really well in the program and am even tutoring one subject, so I’m one of those weird people who never had spectacular grades in undergrad, but am doing very well in veterinary school.

honest opinion is it okay to do the interview in your car or would you recommend my room. I don’t have WiFi so I was going to use my data plan.

Hey guys! My interview is in a few days (Stressing since I thought that was pretty late), it was the closest date available. I was reading through this thread that has a lot of useful information but wanted to ask for those who have already got through the interview process... Any tips? Your experience and what were the questions like?

Kind of nervous even though it isn't my first interview, I would like to have an idea of what it is like! Thank you in advanced 🙂

Yeah my interview is this upcoming Friday and I’m nervous because it’s my first interview any extra tips please let us both know. Thank you!!

Hey guys! I had my interview in December with Philip. It was pretty laid back (I was super nervous because it was my first interview as well). It was very organized and he asked questions in this order: 1.) background/family life, 2.) work history, 3.) academics, 4.) anything else that I wanted the committee to know about me. It was very personal and since my academics are pretty sub-standard, it was nice that I got to talk about everything else about me. Good luck guys! Rooting for y'all!

I have a few questions for those who might know-
1. I interviewed with Ross on 12/05/19, and my interviewer said that I would hear back about my status in 2-3 weeks, with the holiday schedule delaying responses. It's now a little over 4 weeks, I'm seriously expecting a call any day now. Did anyone else interview around a similar time, and have you heard anything back yet?
2. I absolutely love the idea of going to Ross, I love travel and new adventures...however the biggest issue I have run into with deciding if I can go or not if accepted is the fact that I am married, and my husband would absolutely HAVE to find a remote job to keep our income up while living there and me going to school-since there are pretty much no other jobs on the island. Does anyone else have any experience with going to Ross with a spouse? Every time I have asked about this on a Q&A session or with another employee from Ross, I am never given a direct answer. I realize my situation is somewhat unique, but if anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful! ***And yes we have talked about doing long distance, and we have done long distance before being married, we decided that our relationship would suffer in that scenario so that is probably not an option 🙁 ***

As for your first question, I interviewed 11/13 and my interviewer told me 2-3 months before I heard back. She sent me an email on 12/16 around 8 am to tell me that I would be getting a call from her that day regarding the committee's decision. This may not be the case with all of the interviewers but it made it a lot less stressful in my opinion!

As for your second question, I am in the same boat as you. My partner is coming with me to the island (if I end up choosing Ross). That has never been a question with us. He is in the food service industry and as the island is a tourist destination, him finding a job on the island hasn't been much of a concern for us. However, as far as income goes, we plan on using mostly student loans to help sustain us while on the island.

I hope everything works out for you and I'd love to hear from other people that have gone through the same situation!!

Hi! I interviewed on 12/12/19 and my interviewer told me I’d hear back around the end of Jan/early feb. I’m assuming also because of holidays etc, so maybe you’d hear back a little before me!

Last year I interviewed around the same time in December and heard back around Jan 12.

And there are quite a few people who bring spouses or boyfriends/girlfriends down with them (they’re called VIPs). It kind of varies what they’ll do for jobs. I know some who work on island at beach bars or shops (I think this might be under the table...? Not sure), one who works at the school, another that works at a local school, and also a couple that work remotely from home. Quite a few pick up little jobs here and there to supplement income (doing mechanic work, personal training, dog walking, etc.)

That’s all good to know, thanks very much! My spouse works in business/data analytics, so his job field is pretty diverse, but it seems to be difficult finding companies that allow remote positions outside the U.S. Trying to convince him he might just have to kick back and try to work at a hotel or at the bar or something....he is not fond of that suggestion so far:wacky: Honestly, hoping to also get accepted to a school in the U.S. so we at least have options. But thanks everyone for your answers, and good luck as well!

Current Ross Students (or entering students), I need your wisdom and advice on off-campus housing!

I am currently looking for off-campus housing since I will be moving with my fiancé and pets. I have tried to reach out to the financial aid office multiple times with this question but I still haven't received an answer and I need to start making moves financially to secure a home. Most off-campus housing require either a deposit or 2 month rent upfront to secure the apartment, could my student loans be used for this? I will be starting May 2020 and my 2019-2020 FASFA funds have already been offered and processed on my RossAccount then I realized a certain amount was already counted for "housing and boarding" which I'm assuming it's based upon on campus living. So I was wondering if I would be able to use that loan of the housing for my off-campus housing deposit? If not, it's okay I just need to know soon (since Financial Aid office hasn't replied back) so I can plan my finances accordingly to pay for a deposit another way in case my loans cannot cover that.

Thank you so much!

Just had my interview and I’ll be honest I think I bombed it. I was so nervous and my voice all shaky. She said she’ll let me know in a month if I got in.

Don’t sell yourself short! Stay hopeful until you know for sure because most people are nervous during interviews.

Thank you so much!!

You got this! If it doesn’t work out, you try again. This is my 3rd round and I’m finally accepted to Ross and maybe a few more schools. Tenacity is key...and learning from your mistakes.

You should get a refund check that can be used to cover living expenses. So yes, you can use your loans to pay for rent.

Check the student Facebook page and the housing website on MyRoss to look for apartments!

What is the name of the student FB page? The apartments online are slim pickings. I’m hoping that looks different by September, but I have a feeling it will be worse.

Ross University Students. You’ll need to have the school listed on your FB or you can message an admin to be added.

You should have a FB for your class too. May class is Green 2023(?) and Fall is Purple 2024.

If you login to MyRoss there’s a housing tab that has all the Ross Approved apartments on it.

Lots of people post things last minute, so I wouldn’t worry too much!

Thank you so much for your input! I will call the financial aid office on Monday because I have been emailing them for two weeks and haven't received any responses. Would you or anyone happen to know how long refund checks take?

They’re usually awarded a week before school starts, but since our financial aid office has switch over to Chicago, some people have had issues of not getting their checks until the end of the semester. It seems to be getting better though.

I recommend signing up for direct deposit. It’s faster and easier than having to pick up and deposit a check.

Finally heard from Ross and am so excited to say that I was accepted! This was my 3rd year applying to vet school after graduating...I was really beginning to think this just wasn’t going to happen for me. 1 interview in the US coming up but I am thrilled to be able to say that I finally got into vet school!! 😀

Does anyone know the stats of acceptance after an interview? Like if there’s a good chance on getting in?

You get a school issued iPad in first semester that you have to use in anatomy practicals and for some final exams. I take all of my notes on my iPad but also brought my MacBook just to have everything synced easily.

Vet Prep needs to bring a computer, but I’m not sure of the requirements.

Were you also provided an Apple pen? Cause I am in the works of buying one in preparation for my move but I wanted to confirm first. Thanks!

No, it’s not provided, they only give you the iPad and a case for it. A lot of students buy an Apple pen or some other sort of stylus. I love my Apple pen, it’s a lifesaver! 🙂

Does anyone also know about how long after your interview they let you know about a decision? My interview was on 12/17 so I think the holidays pushed me back a bit but I was just curious to get a general timeline.

My interviewer told me that I should hear back in about a month.

I interviewed January 10th. However there is another student that had an interview around the same time as you and was just accepted you can read a post above about it ⬆️ So, hopefully you should be hearing back soon.
