Ross University c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am halfway through as of this week. You are going to be thankful for Vet Prep! You will be ahead of the game when you start first semester! Congrats!
Thank you! I figured that! I am so grateful that Ross took a chance on me. I’m happy about being in vet prep. Looking forward to meeting new Rossies!

Accepted for Fall 2020 !!!! But have an upcoming interview for my instate school LIU. It's a brand new school, I would be the first graduating class. I'm torn if I should give them a chance or go to an established school. (Costs would probably be the same since it is a private school in a very wealthy area)

Congrats on your acceptance!! I also was super intrigued by LIU as I live ~1 hr away, but decided against applying as I was really scared of the idea of going to a brand new school and not having the feedback of graduates to give me an idea of what the school was like. That being said it could turn out to be an amazing school and although tuition is about the same, LIU would require less $$$ for traveling back and forth during breaks since you are from NY. I hope you nail the interview! 🙂

Thank you !! I know it’s definitely a tough decision on what to do. Are you going to attend Ross in August ?

Just accepted the spring forward offer & will be starting in May at Ross!! damn. so scaryyyyy!!!!

I did the same thing last year! It was awesome though, May classes are usually much smaller than the January or September classes!

Definitely ask!!! You have to be on the island, no exceptions, by the 26th of April. Maybe your professors can give you the finals earlier and give you an unofficial grade to present to Ross?
I'd say enjoy your summer and travel (which were my plans, got a 92 year old grandma in Italy 🙁 ), but since I can't foresee what it'll look like in the summer, I'd rather start than mope around (I also work in tourism, so my job is very much up in the air, so saving any more money to travel might not even be an option).

Let me know what you end up doing, and either way hit me up for Sept!!

Do you guys think that they’re even going to let people on the island in April due to what’s going on ?

Despite everything people are still flying all over the place. I would imagine yes. The spread is inevitable.

They are officially sending everyone home & doing everything online, sooooo, errbody don’t quit your jobs just like I did

So they’re not forcing us to go home, but you can if you want to. Campus will be staying open as of now but classes will be shifting to online. We don’t know how it will play out for May semester, it will honestly depend on the virus and how it spreads. Hopefully in the next 6 or 7 weeks things will improve, but it’s hard to say at this point. We don’t have any confirmed cases on island yet, but they just started testing so  The cruise industry is super big here, as well as tourism as a whole, so honestly I would be shocked if we don’t have it already/it doesn’t get here soon given how easy the virus can spread.

I decided to stay on island because I have multiple pets and it would be impossible to bring them all back and forth, plus it felt more dangerous to me to travel back into the US honestly... So I got lots of snacks, am practicing social distancing, and hanging out with all my pets lol.

I'm still waiting to hear back from one school but if it's not the answer I want I'm putting down my deposit for Ross. I haven't really kept up with this thread, was there a c/o 2024 group chat created already?

Does Ross require students to get the rabies vaccine before heading down there?

Nope! You do have to get it before heading off to clinics—maybe not for some of the international schools that are in rabies free countries too, but you’ll need it for the majority of schools

Also, it’s wayyy cheaper to get it done here while you’re at school then getting it done back in the States, like a few hundred dollars cheaper

Just declined my offer for May 2020. I hope this frees up a spot for someone.

Will be declining my seat for the May/Fall 2020. Hopefully this helps someone out who’s still waiting!

A barrel is another way students can move stuff down to the island. You purchase the barrel and take it to fill it, then it gets shipped to the island vs you flying with everything in suit cases

Does anyone know how COVID-19 is affecting those who are starting classes in May? Just out of curiosity. I thought about taking the incentive, but with all the chaos I’m just going to go in August.

We haven’t gotten an update about next semester yet, but hopefully will be hearing soon. What I imagine would end up happening is it being online at least in the beginning, but who knows.

We just got an update via email. They’re doing online classes for roughly the first half of the semester (so until mid-late June) and labs will be put in the second half of the semester. And they said date for in person classes could be pushed back depending on how things go.

Can current students tell me what they do as far as phone plans and service goes?

My phone is a few years old and verizon specific so should i consider another carrier?

I personally kept my Verizon plan and turned on the WiFi calling, then have my phone in airplane mode unless I need my service on an emergency basis. That way whenever I have WiFi on campus or at home I can call whoever I need to on my phone, and have the 10$ a day international plan so anytime I do turn my service on and whenever it’s on it’s 10 dollars. Some people get island phones but I don’t really feel like I need it, my landlord uses WhatsApp so WiFi works for me!

I switched to T-Mobile before coming down, because their plan is pretty awesome for international travel. As part of my normal plan I get unlimited data and texting when abroad, and calling is 25 cents a minute (I think). But I just always FaceTime or use WhatsApp to avoid that. I got a local phone as well when I got here, but ended up getting rid of it after first semester because almost everyone here has WhatsApp!

I saw this plan and was considering it. Since I am due for an iPhone upgrade anyway. I could get the new iPhone that has dual sim, then not have to worry about getting an island phone if that turned out to be something I wanted to do. Did you feel that service was good on the island though? I am mainly concerned about having the availability of google maps with me everywhere as I get lost extremely easily and rely on it often.

You can download google maps for offline use on the app! That’s what I did when I was first trying to get around the island and it was a life saver!
