For the September class you have until April 15th to make a decision( it’s like this for all AVMA schools). For the January and May classes you have less time to decide, but I can’t remember the exact amount of time.
They said they like to know within two weeks for the May class. My biggest problem is I am still waiting for other schools

Congrats on your acceptance!

One way to think about this dilemma is were you prepared to go to Ross if it were your only acceptance this cycle? If so, then go ahead and pay the deposit BUT continue to proceed with your other applications. If you are accepted to a cheaper school stateside, then you lose the $1,000 deposit, but financially you'll still come out ahead in the long run.

That's exactly what time going to do. I don't want to lose my seat if I don't get in anywhere else and especially because some schools don't tell you about acceptances until January-march

Guys! I still have no checkmarks on my application via the portal! Should I be concerned?
I checked last week and I still didn't have any checkmarks, but I just got an invitation to interview with them yesterday so I would not fret!!

That's amazing! Congrats! Is your interview in-person or Skype?

Hey guys! I’m a current first semester student and just wanted to let you know that ross is changing how they’re testing starting in January. They will begin using a block exam system, where starting week 3, you will have an exam virtually every week that has 40-50 questions covering all courses. You will be given one hour. The exams will all be cumulative. Right now we currently have separate exams for courses, so this is new to everyone. We are the first veterinary school to be using this approach. Just figured In coming students should be kept in the loop!

Are these exams heavily weighted? how do ross students feel about this change

Each exam is worth 6% of your grade, so less weight and more exams. Honestly, Ross students have very mixed opinions about it. Some of us feel like guinea pigs, because no other AVMA accredited school is doing their exams this way. Some feel like it will add more stress. Some feel like it will be beneficial and force you to not cram before an exam. But personally it takes me several times going over notes, writing things out, and rewatching videos to fully grasp a concept. So I feel like having to understand everything by the end of the week is asking a lot. But there’s a LOT of debate about it all going on right now, and it seems as though the majority of students aren’t fans of the idea.

What is the reasoning behind block testing? I may be reconsidering my acceptance.

Their reasoning was to decrease stress and decrease the need to cram. They’re hoping by having weekly cumulative exams, the material will be better retained.

Many other vet schools do block exams, it’s the frequency of the exams that students are worried about.

Also mad they made my semester’s exams at 7:50am every week.

What is your testing situation like now?
Edit: over on the vet form one of your colleagues posted similar concerns and was asking for input

We have 2-3 exams for each class throughout the semester plus a final. Our exams are 30-50 questions each and we get 50 minutes to complete them. In total, our exams are worth 60% of our final grade and the final is 40%. With the current system, we usually have 1-2 exams per week.

The new system will have 10 block exams, ~50 questions and 50 minutes to complete them. They are 6% of our final grade each, so it would still be 60%/40%.

I can see the benefits of the new system, but it seems like we’ll never get to take a break since we’ll constantly have to stay caught up.

I promise I’m not trying to come off as a jerk but if you are already taking 1-2 tests per week with the old system is it really that much different in the sense of burnout? Instead of 4-6 weeks worth of material for one course it’s one week’s worth in 4-6 courses, right? It requires a mindset change and probably a change in study habits that would be difficult for sure (no more ignoring histology for three weeks to cram for other tests then cramming histo the week of the histo test like I did in school and instead you gotta stay on top of things) but it’s not like they’re doubling your number of exams.

Now, that’s not to say they aren’t implementing it in a crappy way if they didn’t get student input and/or listen to student concerns. Seems like they could have started this with new students or something to ease the transitions for more established students at the very least. I wonder what the response from the faculty will be...exams are horrible time sucks for faculty too and I k ow my residency mentors wouldn’t have enjoyed having to give/review tests on a weekly base either. Maybe chat with a mentor at the school and see what their view is on it? There may be allies there too if you really want to change it.

I’m just wondering, what is the acceptance rate for Ross? I can not find anywhere the student statistics for each class, so if anyone knows the percentage of acceptance, that would be great!

I don’t know the acceptance rate, but here is what can be found on their website.

i am not sure who can answer this question for me, but does every student get placed into a school for the clinical year upon finishing studies at Ross? i know that we pick 3 schools and they choose ultimately where to place us, but are we guaranteed a seat somewhere no matter what once we finish at Ross?

You are guaranteed a seat at a school. You pick your top 4 choices, each one is evenly weighted (a new rule - they used to be ranked 1-4). You’re selected based on GPA and school involvement. Some clinical schools have a separate application and interview process. If you fail once, your options are slightly reduced. If you fail twice, your options are very slim. On rare occasions, students are placed at a school that wasn’t on their list.

but 100% no matter what I will get a seat even if i "failed" multiple times?

Over Skype, tomorrow night!!! I'm so nervous!

Don’t be nervous! It’s the best interview I’ve had! Do you have Ruth? She just talks about your app and has you elaborate. It’s the first time I’ve felt like they really just want to know your story and why you want this! You will do great, just be yourself. 🙂

I don't know who I have... How do you tell?

It should’ve said in the original email asking you to interview. Mine ended up being in person because she was in town.

The original email was sent by Jeanne.

That may be your interviewer then. My email had Ruth as the sender even though I know she didn’t send it herself (the timing was awesome, and I was actually watching her talk when I got it!).

Thank you!! Please keep me updated on how your interview goes tomorrow! Rooting for you!
The interview went great! I talked to Jeanne. She seemed very impressed with my GPA and accomplishments. She was very easy to talk to and very personable, it was just like a conversation, but you get to brag about yourself a little! (Without sounding too arrogant of course!) It was very natural and somewhat relaxed! I'm very happy with how it went!

I'm so happy to hear that! When will you hear back?

She said she would personally call me to let me know if I got in or not. But probably not for another 2 months So back on the waiting game!!

The waiting is the worst!! I'm surprised she said it would take that long. January class is likely filled and May class is probably close.

She said mostly because of the holidays coming up. Maybe it'll be earlier! That would be great!

Hello All! I got accepted for the May 2020 term and I need to accept and save my seat by tomorrow but I am having issues locating where I need to accept? Ross already sent me an email to set up my account but no where in the account can I find the link, maybe I am looking in the wrong place?

Anyone that already got accepted and have confirmed their seats online, please help! 🙁 I emailed my coordinator and still no answer back. Thank you in advance!

Good luck to everyone applying, you guys got this!

You should be able to go to a site called myross.rossu.edu
Your username should be the student id they gave you and the email should say how to login for the first time!

Hello, I got accepted into September 2020, and am so confused because I did not get any emails about having to take any sort of action in accepting my seat or whatever, hoping someone can explain?
