I want to start writing letters of intent/interest to some schools that I haven't received an II at yet but am very interested in. Does anyone know which schools are particularly receptive/unreceptive to letters? I know some schools, like RFU and Boston, don't like letters until after an interview, but are there any schools that really like these letters and has anyone had personal experience with this?

Don't do it. It's annoying to committees. It's like asking for a relationship before the first date. If you listed the school on your primary, that's your LOI.

Until you receive an II from a school, they don't really care how interested you are in their school. Save it for after the interview.

Interviews are happening. Anyone care to share what they've heard? Where to letters help and where do they hinder?

LOI tend to be used by applicants that are on wait list. Sending them prior to an interview is not worth it.

I've heard Vermont and Georgetown are receptive to lois post interview but can't really say from any personal experience that this is true.

Wake forest takes them

Mayo doesn't take them
Quinnipiac doesn't take them

I think if you are going to send a LOI pre-interview, I would at least have something substantial to update your application with. Update them in the letter and then finish with your interest in their particular program. Most schools (there are some exceptions) certainly accept updates pre-interview and I'm sure they wouldn't mind hearing your interest as well. Will it actually make a difference? Who knows.

At a certain point in the process it can't hurt. I sent out update/letter on interest letters and got very good responses. I got an interview two days latter at one school.

I'm pretty sure Mayo (they also only take updates after II) and Mount Sinai take letters if you're on the waitlist. Michigan doesn't accept letters at any point in the process.

It's probably better you say which schools you applied to and ask specifically; otherwise, there are 130+ schools we can choose from, most of which you didn't apply to.

I always thought schools like GWU or Drexel almost need it to set you apart since they have such a high volume of applicants.

I sent a letter of interest to BU (as well as the optional essay) pre-interview and got an interview invite the same week. This was before the 30 day mark.
