I received an email about getting a SKYPE interview for SGU. I am very nervous and just would like some feedback on how people felt about having an interview via SKYPE?

Mine way back when was totally fine, very chill and not intimidating at all. SGU interviewers make it much more like a conversation than an interrogation. Don't be too nervous about it and you'll do great 🙂

Hey guys, I am currently completing my biology degree at SGU. I also got accepted into the January 2018 DVM program. Looking forward to meeting you guys!

DId anyone have to write an essay for their interview?

Congrats to those accepted! Hope you'll be joining us on the rock!

DId anyone have to write an essay for their interview?
I interviewed in 2016 so it may be different now but I had to write about a significant moment in my life.

thank you!!

I didn't have to in my interview this year
Yea, i had my interview today and there was no mention of any essay so i guess they got rid of it. I am super nervous to hear back about the final decision. 4-8 weeks is such a broad period! oh, i am so anxious. How long did it take for yall to hear back about a final decision?

Don't be anxious, just try to keep yourself busy in the meantime! I'm sure you did well🙂 My interview was on 9/27 and I just heard back two days ago so it was just about four weeks for me

Does anyone know much about the interview process? Are the interviewers given anything from our packet or is the interview totally blind? I know a lot of schools do this portion differently. I have my interview Friday!!

My interviewer didn't say anything about it, but I got the impression that they had little, if any, information about my app. Good luck!

The interviewers do not receive any information about your application. They ask you things pertaining to your knowledge of the field, Your experience in the field, and some questions regarding your personality traits.

You should come prepared with questions to ask your interviewer***

Have my interview in 2 days. So nervous and excited! Any suggestions if I should bring anything or advice?

Bring your A game 😀

Interviews always go well if you're genuine (interviewers have done this many times and can see who is.) You know you want to go to vet school so don't force anything. Be yourself. Have your outfit ironed and ready. Dress professional but comfortably. Wake up early, do your hair, do your makeup/shave. Eat a good breakfast. Run through possible questions in your head but don't be in cram mode. Deep breaths. Bring a copy of your resume/cv. You got this!

I have an interview with Dr. Jill MacLeese on long island on Saturday nov 11th! just wanted to get an idea of what kinds of questions I'll be asked and what I should expect. if anyone could help me out, that'd be great! this will be my first vet school interview so I'm really nervous.

Read the questions people talked about on the first page. It seems to be a standard set of questions, but I was asked all of those! Good luck!

Hi! I had my interview with her back in September. She was incredibly nice and comforting, so you really have nothing to worry about at all! We literally just had a conversation, and it was funny because she was laughing about how she found it annoying that she had to ask the questions that sgu gave her and not her own questions. They really just want to get to know you in person so just be yourself and you will be totally fine! After my interview she even gave me a tour of the hospital which was really cool. Don't be nervous at all! If you have any more questions you can PM me.

thank you so much! Do you know if she was able to view your application at all prior to (or during) the interview? I have a fairly low gpa, so that's why I am extra nervous! haha

My interviewer didn't ask me any specific questions about my application, so I do not think they are given any info on who they are interviewing

I interviewed with sgu and I got an email shortly after saying that I need an additional 100 hours of experience of large animal medicine under a veterinarian for my application to even be considered. Has this happened to anyone else? I think it’s pretty ridiculous considering I have a full time job and am still waiting to hear back from a bunch of other schools, not to mention I already have large animal experience...

Don't be nervous! She didn't know anything about me other than my name and what I looked like (from the photo we had to submit) before the interview. The interview really is just trying to get to know you as a person 🙂

I had my interview yesterday. They are completely blind. My interviewer did not know anything about me other than what I looked like, my name, and my e-mail address (from when I contacted her).

Hey guys I go to SGU and I can tell you a bit about my experience with the interview. For me, the interview was extremely laid back. Most of the interviewers are alumni that volunteer to do this, so that should tell you that people really love SGU! Because I was far from my interviewer, they allowed a Skype interview. Honestly, this interview was the one I felt most comfortable with because it didn't feel pressuring at all, so relax! You will do great! The interview was blind and yes, they seem to have a set of questions to ask. But the most important thing YOU should get out of the interview is the chance to ask all your questions. After talking with my interviewer, I was a lot more interested in attending SGU. I even ended up coming here over an American school. Take a deep breath and let your personality shine through your nerves! You will be fine 🙂

Hi everyone! had my interview today and it was super laid back! there was a set of questions that the interviewer had to ask (and she wrote down your answers on the paper to type up later). these were the questions i was asked (PREPARE YOURSELF USING THESE QUESTIONS!)

1. What made you want to become a vet?
2. Have you traveled ever? and where to?
3. academic strengths and weaknesses
4. personal strengths and weaknesses
5. how will you diversify vet med and st. george's?
6. how will you pay for vet school?
7. do you think you'll adapt to island life well?
8. what are some specific short term goals you accomplished to get yourself to your ultimate goal of becoming a veterinarian?
9. do you feel you performed to the best of you ability in undergrad?
10. discuss an issue veterinarians face in vet med

I'm pretty sure that's all the "specific" questions I was asked, but be prepared to talk! we talked about a lot of things and in those conversations I saw her writing things down and she said that it's great because I was answering questions for her in the middle of our conversation. Ask questions about the school to show your interest, but don't ask dumb questions that are easily found on the website. My interview took about an hour. I will here back in about 6-8 weeks if I am accepted or not! 🙂

I was asked the same questions and like you said, it was very laid back. Good luck! I hope you get accepted!

I had my interview 9/19 and have not heard anything but confirmation that my interview has been acknowledged. I would love to find out soon! Going bananas!

Wow that's the longest I've heard anyone wait for SGU. I keep hearing about 4-6 weeks. I had my interview 2 days ago. I hope you find out soon! Good luck!

That was the same for me! I heard back 8 weeks later from the day that my interview was confirmed. I got into the Jan 2018 class so don't lose hope!

Thanks!! They sent me the email that they were going to review my app on the 30th or 31st and then today they notified me.. so about a month

Hey guys. I thought I'd chime in.

I was accepted for SGU, and will attend for the class of 2022. Nice to meet you all, and look forward to working with you.

Just received an email from Krista that the time for acceptance notifications is being pushed back because there are so many applicants this year. I interviewed on Nov. 7 and will likely hear back with the schools final decision mid to late January. I would love to hear if anyone else that interviewed in the beginning of November has heard anything.

I interviewed on the 15th and have not heard anything other than the same email that you received! I was really hoping to hear sooner than that 🙁

I interviewed on 11/08 and got an email on the 16th saying that my application will go into final review for acceptance when I complete the additional large animal experience requested. Then I should hear back 6-8 weeks after that. I haven't heard anything else yet. Good luck!

Im in the same boat with you except I interviewed even earlier than that! I interviewed in Philly on 10/11 and my interview went into final review on 10/16. Of course I was just shy of 6 weeks when I got that email from Krista. I'm hoping that since I interviewed early-ish it wont get delayed too horribly. This week is week 6 so I'm hoping I'll hear back not much longer than 8 weeks. Good luck!!!!

I am in the same boat. I interviewed 11/3 and received the same e-mail saying they are pushing back acceptance letters 🙁 I hope we hear soon!

I interviewed mid-October and received my acceptance about a month after getting my email that the interview was submitted and being reviewed. Good luck everyone, with interviews and application decisions!!! I think I probably checked my emails 100 times a day so I'm not really one to talk, but take a breath and relax. The hardest part is done, and you will hear back eventually. :]
