1) I am not sure if we have to go to the clinics in Chicago because I have not reached to that stage yet. I have been to the multi-clinic few times where we learn about basic sterilization, ergonomics etc.
Its the top most expensive school.

2) I feel like the education we receive at MWU, it's not worth that much money.

3) it is not ranked under top 50 private schools list where as NYU is #5. Yes, we will get the DMD degree and will become a dentist. However, there are students attending other private dental schools who are receiving best education and early clinical experiences with nearly half of MWU tuition.

4) I like the integrated curriculum as it is slow paced. Upperclassmen and professors are very helpful. there is no competition among students and we all help each other out. I like its quarter system as you get mini break after each quarter.

5) Since board exam is changing, it's better to attend school where students take part 1 after first year so don't have to deal with the new system.

I'm a D4 at MWU-IL, I can answer some of these questions:
1. Yes, we do have external rotations in Chicago area (7 weeks total, 4 different sites per student).

2. I can't say whether the education does not "worth that much money," because I have not been studying at different school lol! However, as a new school, we do have some advantages compared to a lot of different schools. Mainly, because they thrive to have the latest technologies available to us. If you visit different schools, you can probably appreciate what we have at the SIM clinic and the MSC a little better. Moreover, during my residency interview and ASDA meetings, I got to talk to students from different schools. One thing that a lot of applicants do not realize is that a lot of other schools will require you to pay more for your dental stuff (i.e. cassettes, plastic teeth, articulator, cameras, etc.) and that can really add up. At MWU, everything is already included (you will be renting the instruments and some other stuff, but you get to keep a laptop, a pair of loupes, and a camera for starters). I understand that some people don't like the idea of renting, but to me, it's a plus! Because, you don't have to worry about selling stuff you don't need or want at the end (they will probably be outdated by the time you graduate).

3. About the ranking: One thing to keep in mind is that MWU is a professional school only (no undergrad). I'm not sure what ranking list you were looking at, but MWU may not even in the pool.

4. I agree. They make it easy for us to tackle the boards.

5. Don't worry about the new system. I took the field test for INBDE. I think it is easier that the 2-parts exam. The questions are more clinical and made more sense than the old system.

Could those of you who are Dental Students at MWU-IL shoot me a DM? I'm stuck between MWU-IL and LECOM, I really need some help deciding, and having some questions answered would be a huge help.

Go ahead and send me your questions. But, before that, think about your interview experience. You must have seen the facility and what each school has offered, right?

I usually answer this kind of questions with "choose whichever cost you less money" lol. Honestly, in the end it's your work quality and attitude that makes you a successful dentist, you'll get a DMD or DDS wherever you go. 🙂

Got an interview invite but I'm already committed to MWU-AZ. Is there any reason to pick IL as a CA resident?

Not gonna lie, MWU-AZ is looking really good. The curriculum is good, the student body is strong, and the weather is nice.

However, one exciting thing just happened at MWU-IL: We now have a new dean. This new dean was from MWU-AZ.

One advantage I can think about right now is our proximity to ADA HQ. We actually have quite a few well-known faculty that are involved in ADA or some sort of organized dentistry.

What made MWU-IL stand out to you? when(and if) you interviewed at other schools, what did they lack that MWU-IL had?! thank you!

Take a look at my old post here:
***The Official Midwestern University-Illinois Class of 2020 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

I interviewed at a few different schools before I decided on MWU. I like how Chicago can offer a really good school-life balance. Moreover, I thought the curriculum matched my learning style the best. That being said, I didn't have the luxury to choose a dental school that cost significantly less than MWU, so tuition was not really a deciding factor to me.

They received my letters of rec and secondary last week, for those of you who just got interview invites how long did it take for you to hear back after you submitted?

Just got invited yesterday. AADSAS mail-out date: 6/21. Application complete date: 7/12. However, I retook my DAT 10/12 and scores verified 10/25.

Thanks for letting me know! That slightly concerns me seeing how long you had to wait to hear back but I'm hoping that maybe it won't take them as long to respond to me

I also had my application complete in June/July.

I think my DAT retake was what really delayed the entire process. It seems like the admissions are starting to really get the ball rolling on Post-December app reviews, invites, etc. Keep your head up!

Anyone interviewing on Feb 13th or 15th? Those seem to be the only available dates left.

I will most likely be canceling my interview here. I have been accepted somewhere else. Hopefully someone will pick it up!

Hey guys!
I have an interview coming up soon, and as I consider this school I was wondering how everyone plans on financing it? Obviously most are going to have to use student loans, but my parents concern is me having to use Parent PLUS loans. Is it possibly to use take out loans only in my name for the time in attendance? Or will my parents most likely have to take out loans in their name too in the form of a Parent PLUS?

Do you have any undergrad loans outstanding right now? If you do not you should be able to take out $224k in direct unsubsidized, and the rest you can take out as Grad PLUS loans (in your own name). At this point in time that would be the most efficient way to take out all your loans from the government.

Hi,

Do any of you know the format of interviews at MWU-IL? Are they MMI's or traditional style interviews?
Also, are they closed or open file?

Thank you🙂

I got an interview invite this morning as well! Most likely declining since I was already accepted to a closer school. Hopefully the interview goes to one of you who is still waiting.

Hi congratulations! May I ask what dates they had available?

I got invited to interview today and I took the first date they had: Jan 23rd! This will be my first interview but it’s also my first choice. I was blown away by the school when I visited.

For the MMI do they have different booths in a big room or is it all open tables?

They had the MMI in a room/hallway type area with different offices, each office had its own door and was closed off so you couldn't hear anything going on outside, the person inside has their own timer for timing your response and there's a different person outside the room(s) timing how long you have to read the prompt that's taped on the door

Was the whole process chill? Did the interviewers usually fill in any silence if there was any?

At what point do MWU-IL students get a chance to become hands on in the sim clinics?
I'm a D1 right now, and we're the first class to use hand pieces in the first quarter. They've accelerated the program so that you're doing more hands on work earlier. It's only our second quarter and we're learning preps and composite/amalgam restorations.

Each interviewer is slightly different, some only sat silently, but most asked follow up questions/elaborated on what you had said

When you cam across the guy who stayed silent did it get awkard at any poin talking to a corpse? Did you have to stay the whole 8 min? Did they even give feedback? lol

Lol, he/she was not like a corpse, they just didn't say as much as some of the other interviewers, if there is such a situation, all you need to do is find a way to fill the time, either elaborate on something you already said, or ask the interviewer something that is related to the prompt, or relate it to a situation in your life, any any other option

Yes you have to stay sitting there the whole time and no, no feedback lol obviously they're going to evaluate you privately

Did anyone that had an interview on Jan 17 , hear anything back yet ?

Has anyone who interviewed on the 9th or the 11th of January heard back yet? At our interview they told us we would hear back within 2 weeks or at least before February at the latest 🙁
