Touro University - Nevada (TUNCOM) Discussion Thread 2014 - 2015

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did you guys received a complete email? Or just under review? The last email I received stated that my supplemental had been received, but that was over three weeks ago.

Haha! Would the people who posted their interviews were difficult mind me asking who their interviewers were? I go here and I'm curious to know who the toughies were. If you don't feel comfortable, you can PM me or don't worry about it 🙂 But if you do tell me I can maybe give you some insight as to what they are really like and if they were just playing bad cop.

Also, I wouldn't worry about them drilling you. I felt the same way and so did a few of my other classmates. As long as you owned up to mistakes (if you failed, just say you learned from it and move on) and stick to your guns, you'll be fine.

If anyone has any specific questions about the school, please let me know!

Anybody else from 10/21 group feel like they had a pretty tough interview?

Yup! They only seemed interested in the gaps in my application O.O

Yeh.....my interview did not seem "conversational" at all...I felt like the interviewers were drilling me like crazy especially on my mcat score

I also wanted to add and stress/repeat that back when I interviewed, I was absolutely GRILLED about my application and left the room feeling like they hated me and it was a definite rejection (literally-someone commented afterward on how I looked so tired but I was actually just really bummed that I would probably be getting rejected from this school), but 3 weeks later I was accepted.

I'll PM you the names shortly, but I'm glad to hear you say your experience was so similar to mine. I felt completely deflated after the interview. I was extremely impressed by a lot about the school. The high points for me were: Dr Hedger's demeanor and philosophy of care; potential for remaining in one spot for 4 years; smaller class size; and what appears to be a very strong academic experience. Cost may end up playing a big part for me, but we'll be looking at those options after November 6.
Thanks for the feedback!

Hey everyone, don't think I have posted here yet. I just got an II today. I submitted several weeks ago, I emailed TUNCOM to ask for a status update (they say we should hear within a month and it has been longer than that for me) and I got the II today. Hopefully it isn't just a pity invite. Can anyone provide information on rotation sites? Anyone have a residency match list for the last year or two? Good luck to everyone!

You'll get the match list on interview day...it's pretty strong. Good luck!

This reminds me of an anecdote(ish) about how much the staff here looks out for us. So as a little background, Dr. Hedger has a brother who is a judge and we have a professor who is some sort of JD (is that what they call people who went to law school? I don't know). Most of the students are from California and and during orientation, the question of whether or not we needed a Nevada license came up. He mentioned that it has happened before that students would get pulled over and ticketed for not having a Nevada state license, even though they are students and not required to have one, and if this ever happens to us, to let them know and they would take care of it.

I mean, what a way to make us feel like they have our backs, right? Small detail, but just goes to show that everyone here is super approachable and supportive.

I don't think any school gives out pity invites. If you got an interview invite, they saw something in you that they liked.

I'm a lowly first year so I don't know too much about rotations yet, but I know there are a few different hospitals to do them. Some of the preceptors are actually our current instructors too and they are all extremely helpful.

Here's what I can find on the Touro site regarding match statistics/details.

Just a quick question for those who received interview invites, did you receive and e-mail or a phone call for II? I called Lizy yesterday, and she said that my application had been approved for an interview and I would need to schedule it on the phone. When I asked if I could schedule it right now, she said, she doesn't schedule the interviews but I would be contacted to schedule the interview soon. Anyone care to share how they got their II?

The same thing happened to me. I called after waiting for more than four weeks and was told that I had was going to be invited for interview and that I would be hearing back soon. Eventually, I received an email with a specific phone number to call to schedule the interview.

Thanks for letting me know! I have been waiting for this school since August, and have been complete since July. Through some weird mishap, my application got lost in the process and Lizy personally printed out my application and placed it on the reviewers desk. I guess I was getting slightly anxious, but definitely would love to go to this school!

Hello

Did anyone else receive an email with their name at top and insert text here the only content written, the Admissions contact information? I asked for a resend. Hoping it is an interview and not a rejection.

I got the same email and a second later I got an email saying that my application is complete and that they will add letters of recommendation and forward for a decision.

Can someone please share how long it took between having your primary verified and receiving a secondary for this school? I took the MCAT on 6-Sep-14, so my app was verified in early Oct. I haven't yet received a secondary from Touro-NV so was curious. Thanks!

The choice should be obvious. Does Henderson have world-famous BBQ? Google Fiber? That's right, I didn't think so. 😛

Has anyone from 10/6 AM/PM hear back yet?
We are not supposed to hear back until the 6th i think or was it the 3rd? Atleast in my interview group they kept stressing that.

Yes, I remember them saying 11/6 would be when we hear back. I'm surprised the 10/21 group is hearing back though. Were you in the morning group on 10/6?

Not looking good for me. Interviewed 10/21. Silence. Kind of expecting wait list or rejection email soon. Have another acceptance, so not too busted up.

Congrats to the rest of you guys though!

Sorry to post and ask again, thanks for the help on the matches, can anyone comment as to rotation 3rd and 4th year? Are sites mostly in Vegas area or do rotations send you all over? I know we get the list on interview day, but I would love to have a basic idea. Thanks

Yes, most sites are in the area and they will NOT send you all over.

You have the option to do away rotations for 3 months your 3rd year and 5 months your 4th year (if you grades are okay), so you can arrange to go anywhere in the country to do rotations, but you'd have to arrange it on your own and submit a request.

Some hospitals nearby, like University Medical Center, which is in Vegas, is contracted by UNSOM, so if you want to do rotations there, you'd have to request to do an away rotation.

If you're questions is "is it possible to stay all 4 years in Henderson without moving" then the answer is yes.

Hey everyone! I interviewed 10/6 PM and I'm dying as the date gets closer. And it's crazy that the 10/21 group is already hearing back. AHHHHHHHH

Has anyone who interviewed on 10/21 that was accepted last week received the official email with the information on paying the deposit?

Okay cool, me neither. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one.

I received an email saying that due to the large number of applicants included in the dean's meeting, that a final decision should be in by November 18. I interviewed 10/6.

Waitlisted. Probably will let them know they can remove me soon.
No potential action on it until April doesn't work too well for my situation. Great looking school though, and looks like a great opportunity for those attending, so congrats everyone!

I was waitlisted today as well. Anybody know what percent of their waitlist gets pulled up?

I am giving up my interview invite spot here as I received an acceptance from my top OOS choice. I hope the spot goes to one of you fine people!

I don't know the exact numbers, but a handful (I'd say maybe half?) of my classmates mentioned getting in off the waitlist. In fact, some of them said that it happened way before April, like weeks after their interview. But also, a few (very few) of them didn't find out until June/July. But who knows what goes on in those elusive admissions offices. Such a mystery.

Yeah, it's kind of a black box. I was fortunate enough to get another acceptance the next day from a school I was a bit more partial to. That softened the blow considerably. I'll be sending them my deposit soon, but will leave my status as is with other schools until that is processed.
The school was very impressive, but I think it's a better spot for folks from the west already, and I'm a bit better of a fit with south/southeast schools. Thanks for the encouragement and information throughout. Best of luck in your next few years! Touro-NV looks like they always a solid match list.

I figure I'll ask this here before I talk with support at TUNCOM. On the secondary application I entered the institutions I attended, degree earned, cumulative GPA, and so on. For some reason it won't accept the number of credit hours attempted and gives the error "The field format for this question needs to be zz#.#." This happens on google chrome and internet explorer. Anyone else have this issue?
