soo how is the interview at this school? is it intense or laid back? i'm interviewing next tuesday I believe and am curious as to what to expect. thanksss and congrats to all that have been accepted, that is so exciting!

I think it varies. Mine was pretty stress free (we talked about college football, living in NYC, study abroad) but other people had a much tougher time. There was one guy who was very upset about getting grilled on the typical "liver transplant, who do we give it to?" question; I've seen him posting on SDN about how mad the whole thing made him. So I guess it depends on who you get.

I personally converted it to a PDF using Acrobat Pro and then used the Typewriter function within Acrobat to enter in all of the data. (This worked for me only because my school has a computer lab in which all of the computers are equipped with Acrobat. Buying Acrobat just for something like this is too expensive to be worth it, IMHO.) Somebody else I know simply wrote in all of the info by hand and then stapled a printed essay to the application.

many thanks, good suggestion. I'll see if the computers around here have acrobat pro on them.

what is the average GPA / MCAT needed for TOURO COm NY?
I really like this school

thx again dozit. found acrobat pro and the typewriter feature. that's a great tool I hadn't used before!

I have an interview Dec. 17th here. Does anyone else have the same date? What is the area like around the school? It can't be worse than UMB where I do research.

I would like to know too... my interview is on the 16th.

I am not sure what UMB is like so I can't tell you. As for the school it is in Harlem in Manhattan, so it is like Manhattan. The school is located on a busy street (125th street) with subway stations within a few blocks of it. There are a few streets in the area that I would not go wandering around late at night but I know other students would disagree with me and say the area is fine. As for the actual safety record the only issues that students have had are a few pick pockets mostly at the subway stations. This though is an issue that can happen anywhere in the city. I would recommend that you come to the school and make your own impression.

does anybody know wut the planned rotation sites are for this school?

The rotation sites that have been finalized:
Bronx Lebanon Hospital
Interfaith Medical Center (Brooklyn)
New Parkway Hospital (Flushing)
St. John's Episcopal (Rockaway)
Staten Island University Hospital
TouroCOM's Family Health Center
Trinitas Hospital (Elizabenth, NJ)
plus assorted PCP offices & clinics

They said that they're working on other sites, but they aren't set in stone yet.

As I walk down the street to UMB I see hookers to the right and drug dealers to my left lol. It is sad I do not really want to attend my state school... but I have grown to dislike my hometown of Baltimore. Nevertheless, thanks for answering the question. Are the other students there helpful? Do you all study together or is it cut throat?

No it is not that bad. As for the students, it is not cut throat and the school strongly encourages study groups. The class of 2011 has been very good to us and I am hopping that the class of 2012 will return the favor to the class of 2013.

Good Luck

How long after mailing in your secondary application did you guys receive your interview invite? I recently mailed in my secondary (next day delivery because i was so excited) and after two weeks, I am yet to receive the invite. Is two weeks the normal wait time?

These are all sites that we will have, but the school is still working on getting us more sites. They will be giving us a more up-to-date list next week and I will be sure to share it then.

Does it bother you that none of the official sites to date are in Manhattan proper? I don't know where the family health center is, so perhaps that's near Harlem, but otherwise, none of them are on the island. Do students plan on moving to be closer to the rotation sites? I mean, if you live up on or near 125th, and have to get to Interfaith, that takes at least an hour. And that's one of the closer ones.

Has anyone who interviewed on 11/4 heard back yet? Is it really only a two week wait?

Finally made my deposit on Monday.wheeeew. I got an email from Obed concerning insurance, housing etc. One of the attachments was for a mentorship program with first year students at Tourocom. Did any sign up for this? If so, what does it entail?

It doesn't seem like it, given that my DO letter was missing when I got my invite.

I'm interviewing December 16th...who else is going to be there? 😀

for those of u that have an interview on dec. 16, when did u submit your supplemental application and fee? i just wanna get an idea

I received an email with the supplemental app Mid-October which basically implied I was going to be interviewed as long as I submitted my Secondary. So I submitted my 2ndary a few days before halloween, and received an email the following monday about an interview.

Sorry I don't have exact dates right now, but I'll get them for you later.

As far as exact dates go:

Got secondary Sept 22.

Completed secondary by November 3 (had to raise money for the app fee).

Got interview invite email on November 6.

thanks for the info guys.

I submitted my secondary and fee on October 27th but i still haven't received an interview invite. Ive gotten two emails from Issa sow saying they received my app and fee but thats about it.

Guess ill call up the school and ask.

I just got accepted! But definitely worried about the rotation sites. The school def seems like it wants to make a difference in the Harlem area. It's still considered a pioneering school and when I interviewed the faculty that interviewed me stressed that I make sure to talk to the OM2 students to get a perspective on the school. The OM1's sounded like they were fine but definitely a lot of crinks to work through. Overall I was amazed by the technology and the services that they have for the students. The school is open 24 hours, its more like a building with 5 floors (out of which on 3 are built) so they are really trying to cater to the students. The dean was awesome. I went super early for my interview and he just met me and said that I should sit in on one of the classes. Got to learn about conjunctivitis and how to diagnose it!!!

Good luck y'll.

When did you interview, and how did they notify you of your acceptance?

They let you know almost exactly two weeks post-interview if you were accepted. I'm not sure how it works with the waitlist or rejections (they might be working with the same time frame).

The acceptance comes via email.

join the class thread if you know for sure you're going to tourocom nyc!

I finished my secondary and mailed it in last week and received this email...

Dear Applicant,

Please be advised that we received your supplemental application and fee.
After a thorough review of your file, you will be notified via email for an invite for interview or if anything is missing from your file.

Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mr. Issa Sow

Does everyone receive this? Does this mean they will look at my file and then decide to give me an interview? Doesn't everyone receive an interview invite? :😕:

You have nothing to worry about. They will eventually invite you for the interview. My email stated they would invite me within the next few weeks and two days later, i got the invite.

I interviewed on 11/4 and emailed Obed today to determine what my status was. He claimed he emailed me on 11/18 and that he will email it again. By end of the day, I still did not get any email from him. I am kind of leery that he did not tell me my status in his reply to my note. I therefore suspect a rejection or wait list. There seems to be a lack of organization.

I was wondering if people wrote another essay for their secondary app. And for those who did not, did you get in? Thanks.

I just got invited for another pre-secondary interview...

funny thing is... I got one of these 3 weeks ago and already have an interview scheduled for Dec 16th. LOL

I just scheduled interview for Dec. 17. Anyone else going on the same day?

Got the same thing. I'm not sure if all my letters are in yet. It's such a pain to get professors to do them. Anyway, I hope get an interview date soon.

I submitted my primary app on 10/17, received and submitted my secondary app on 10/23, received an invite on 11/9 for 11/19. The hardest part is the waiting process, but I'm glad the interview is over! Good luck to all!

Just got a medium waitlist from TOUROCOM. very strange, with my numbers (3.9/34) I thought it was a sure thing and touro was my safety school.

Ahhhh....that's making me kinda nervous.

I'm inclined to say that with numbers like those, they probably knew that they were your safety school. Nothing against you, of course, but if I were on their ADCOM and saw your stats, I would wonder why you were at Touro for an interview and not NYU or wherever.

And I just withdrew my acceptance so the spot can go to somebody else.

yes, but you would think they would have tried to hit me for the 2000 dollars. (and if not for my UMDNJ acceptance last week they would have gotten it)

I got the confirmation e-mail from Issa on 11/21. I haven't contacted to schedule an interview yet. Anyone else in the same boat? Also, does the interview invite come by phone or e-mail?

Bummer. Just got Wait Listed (Medium) 🙁

I just got accepted to Touro! I actually am very surprised because I didn't think my interview went as well as it could have.

I was delirously tired from a long commute/hardly any sleep the night before and found myself saying "I'm not sure" and fumbling through some of the questions. hahaa I also felt I was tooo much myself aka way too friendly and laid back (i thought i could have been more professional when looking back).

My stats are 3.6/27. Just wanted to say to anyone waiting to hear from this school that anything can happen. I also am from NY, so I believe I had somewhat of an advantage. Hope my stats helps anyone wondering about this school...gooood luck 🙂

Thanks for the update! I'm on the high wait list and really hoping for Touro. Their philosophy and mission completely align with my values and goals as a future physician.

Does anyone know what the admissions stats are like to date, or when they start to pull from wait list candidates? Thanks & good luck to everyone!

I interviewed at this school 11/18 and just got an e-mail from Obed that I am waitlisted. No surprise. I only went on this interview cuz I'd already bought my plane ticket to see my boyfriend out in NYC and decided to schedule this interview for the same visit. But I interviewed after I had gotten into my top choice D.O. school CCOM so my nonchalance probably radiated and the interviewers, being as experienced as they are in reading people fast, picked up on it. And now I'm in my top choice school UIC so I'm withdrawing. It's definitely funny how good stats don't matter when you carry an aura of disinterest towards them. And it's funny how I didn't think UIC would take me cuz I wasn't a 37/3.90 but they saw how much I loved them and accepted me. I'm glad the system works this way... people who truly want something should have it. Good luck to everyone!

I also just withdrew. At my interview obed said that everyone on last years high waitlist got an offer of acceptance so your chances are probably pretty good.
