I certainly did. We'll see. As I mentioned, I seem to be at a disadvantage without research experience and a lack of higher-level science, but I have had the benefit of life experience (will be 28 @ matriculation if I get in) and some time to reflect on this decision! Anyway, best of luck to all. I can't wait to hear what they decide for me, yay or nay.

haven't quite decided, but i miss it up there and i'm leaning that way for sure...

Don't expect decisions until the end of April or even later. If one comes and it's an acceptance it will be awesome, but assuming they want to finish interviewing first (the interviews will stretch through April), you may have to wait. It's a long process, but 9 months have passed and we have at most 6 to go before we will all know for sure. So, at least we are past the midpoint. I don't know where I'm going with this post.... THE END🙂

I was planned to have an interview in March but they haven't yet contacted me for it which is weird since is already March. Even if I do interview, i'm oos and there are probably very few seats left. My chances are probably extremely slim 😱

You can expect a phone call to schedule an interview for April within the next few days. It's true that it will be hard to get accepted, but you never know. Good luck.

Just got WL at Wake Forest. WL #6 for me, yay.

As of now just looking for jobs, writing LOI's (and an LOIntent for UConn), and getting ready to reapply.

Wow. 6 WL. You will be taken off at least one by the end of summer.

Edit: you have a very nice application by the way

Thanks!🙂

I hope I get pulled off of one (namely UConn), and the odds are probably in my favor considering the number. However, I can't depend on that chance so I still have to go through all the trouble of finding a full time job and applying all over again (at least for my AMCAS app). Not to mention spending time on this cycle, i.e. writing LOI's to everyone and keeping them updated on new info. So much for relaxing and enjoying second semester senior year.

I was in your shoes just last year. Reapplying this year. May have to do it again next year.

Yeah, not looking forward to the reapplication process. Not just in terms of time, but also money. This whole process has been a drain physically, emotionally, and financially.

Got this email from Dr. Sanford today:

"Dear Colin,

Your application for admission to the University of Connecticut School of Medicine has been carefully reviewed by the Admissions Committee. At this time we are placing you on our list of high alternates.

Based on previous experience, there is a strong possibility that we will be able to offer you a position by the beginning of classes. Since the Admissions Committee has not yet completed review of all applicants, I am not able to specify a rank-ordered position. If you would like some impression of your position within the list, please email me after May 15, 2008.

We ask that you update your record with any new grades or significant accomplishments. Should you decide to commit to another school, please notify us.

We truly appreciate your patience. Due to a number of factors, our review process has taken longer than expected. We will notify you as soon as any new information becomes available.

Sincerely,

Keat Sanford, Ph.D.
Assistant Dean - Medical Student Affairs & Admissions
University of Connecticut School of Medicine"

Anybody else get something like this? I assume this is the WL ranking?

Totally familiar. Got it last year, but was a middle, not a high alternate. Yes, it is UCONN's WL. Being high alternate is very good actually. You will most likely get in. Good luck.

I understand completely. But looks like you won't have to worry about reapplying.

same as well. High Alternate. Last year I think at least 80 percent of people on that tier got in. I hope its the same or better this year but trends suggest not. Goodluck!

I wonder if there are any spots left.

I hope there is. Everyone should have a fair chance to get a spot. I know at other school it truly is rolling admission and students are accepted from the last interview days. I've been to other schools where they flat out told me you are interviewing for a waitlist spot...it sucks.

I hope uconn is the first. Good luck .

For those of you interested the Revist Weekend will be April 25th-26th.

Hope everyone hears back good news!

After improving my MCAT from a 28 to 32 and gettin much better clinical experiences, i got placed on the Middle alternate list AGAIN.

so angry, what a slap in the face from my state school.

Thats messed up. Im sorry to hear that.

But maybe its just me and feel free to reply. I believe there is gonna be more waitlist movement this year than the last 2 years. Mainly because I think UConn has beeen very conservative in their acceptance offers this year. Why do i think that? just from reading this thread and the uconn class of 2012 thread there aren't that many people who have confirmed going to uconn.

Now maybe a lot of people this year who are going to uconn just dont use studentdoc.net like we do. But I am trying to be optomistic.

I hope things work out for us all.

Good luck.

i hope youre right, but on the email it says to ask about status on june 15th. I have an acceptance to a DO school and one more MD interviwe as well as 2 other MD waitlists. Last year i had no acceptance so i had all my eggs waiting on uconn. This year is definately different. I was incredibly impressed with the DO school (KCUMB) and have no reservations whatsoever about going other than it being quite far from home.

I just dunno if i can handle not being sure where Im going for the entire summer again. If I email uconn mid june and they say we still arent sure I think thatll be it because I want to find a place to live in and get settled on a location and then not have to worry about that. I dont think I can wait till late july when KCUMB orientation starts Aug 3. I just dont think I can handle that again. Anyway Im rambling, just trying to say that the non acceptance doesnt bother me as much as the not knowing where Im going to settle does.

curious. Did u apply to any DO programs closer to CT. I applied to 3 DO programs all on the east coast. Im sure with your app you would have good success there as well.

i did but didnt like the schools as much, got accepted to basically all 6 schools i applied to

PokerDoc,
I know it's frustrating, but at least you have other acceptances. Based on last year, middle alternate status is practically a nice rejection. If you really don't mind going to KCUMB, assuming no other WL turn into acceptances by June (shouldn't there be more movement in the second half of May?), your best bet will probably be to focus on KCUMB. You will want to plan everything, etc. I hate to sound negative, but if they place ME on the middle alternate, I will start acting as if they rejected me fully.
Last year, I made a mistake of hoping they would eventually let me enroll so I did nothing all spring and summer. If it wasn't for the WL, I would probably take early steps to improve my application for this year. Anyway, I realize my advice doesn't apply to your case all that much.... I am just worried and a little impatient.

Anyone know what the deal is with pre-interview hold at this point? Does that basically mean I am rejected?

I know they said not to contact them after being placed on pre-interview hold, but they accepted an abstract I recently had published without any problems. BTW I am OOS.

Would it be appropriate to show my interest in some other way?

Thanks!

just saw this thread and wanted to let you guys know that i recently emailed Uconn to withdraw. good luck everyone! it really is a great school.

thanks patsfan! Im sure a lot of us are grateful.

Congrats on your multiple acceptances. Will you choose NYU?

No one commented about her or his interview experience at UCONN since Feb. I find it strange. Don't you?

Hmm...maybe its a government conspiracy! :scared:

Other option is that there were few interviews in the Feb/March window. Considering how small the class size (and thereby interview pool) is, its certainly possible.

A while back I read a thread that had a link connecting to a survey data site (I think part of Student Doctor Network), which compared schools on multiple levels. I can't find it anymore. Does anyone know what link I am talking about?

Maybe. 🙂

Maybe the other option.

I don't know... just wanted to keep this thread up.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the site and unsure of something. I interviewed at UConn in the beginning of January and recently was placed on the high alternate list. I am wondering what exactly my chances are of getting in off the wait list. I read someone's reply of approximately 80%, but is there any statistical information to that? It says in the email that based on past experiences, there is a strong possibility of gaining admission. What does that mean? Why would they say that unless there was a really, really good chance of getting in?

Thanks for any responses regarding this. I really do appreciate it. Good luck to everyone else. This process is becoming ridiculous.

There is a strong chance. That's it.

which =s no chance for middle thirders like me 🙁

No, it is not "no chance," but definitely a smaller one. You will eventually get in is all I can say. The End.

Edit: I don't know what's going to happen to me this cycle, either.

Is there even a bottom third to this waitlist? Or is it just high and middle alternates?

no there is a bottom. I had a friend on it last year.

Anyone on the high alternate list try to get in touch with Dr. Sanford yet? If so any info?

Really? I was hoping they were all finished. Well, anyone out there interviewing this month?

Hey Col,

How's it going for you? Any wait list movement for you?

surf know which way ur leaning? it must be a tough decision....i think someone last year had the exact same situation and i believe she picked UNC. Congrats on your options.

It is hard, not that I'm complaining. I'm going to wait until I get my finaid offers and to go to Uconn's second look before I decide for sure. I've tried to do it objectively, but I think I just need to go back and visit UConn one more time before I can decide.

I think it is safe to assume there will be no waitlist movement until mid May or so. They are still interviewing and people still get accepted (unless it's a lie) this late in the process. Everything seems so random, it makes my head spin.

Giddyup, are you leaning toward Jefferson? Or is that more of a second choice for you?
