man, they have been moving really slow lately. do you guys really think a lot of people are waiting til may 15 to make their final decisions? i really really really hope the waitlist moves a TON on thursday and friday 🙂

I couldn't agree with you more!!! From my understanding, May 15 and 16 is when it does move quite a bit. Anyone know how it went down last year? Well, I just called and they're on 37 now, so its still moving along....

It was 38 on May 15th last year.... I really thought with the bigger Phx class things would be moving faster but yet here we are. But we at started the week on 33 and now its 37. So about 5-6 a week or so thus far. Just feeling bad for those high (60's on up) on the waitlist. They even seeded the waitlist higher in anticipation of major movement this year. Last year 75 on the wait list, this year I think Ann said 108 total, and I think the list stopped at 56 for admission. Good luck everyone! 😎

Update for my fellow U of A COMers... according to Ann (6 minutes ago).. we are at #39.

🙂

Right on track from last year.... Guess Phoenix didnt impact the Tucson list that much thus far, and last year both Phx and Tucson used the same waitlist. 😀

Wow. That sucks. Anyone know the least amount of people they've taken before?

I have heard of wait lists stopping in the twenties to thirties before at the UofA, but the last four years the wait list is been in the mid fifties before stopping at UofA. You might make it with a 52 spot...just might be down to the wire or maybe not, no one knows when the waitlist tiltawhirl stops until July 31

I was at #50 on the waitlist last year and I didn't get in. The list stopped in the 30's last year.

Anyway, good luck to those still waiting. I'm holding onto a Tucson acceptance and was just called by Phoenix today. Decisions, decisions...

30's! Everything I had heard from both other applicants and first year students that number 54 came off right a day or two before class started. Especially when Ann told me that they were on 38 last year on May 15th.

Besides you want to go to Phx.... they are aiming to be better than the Tucson campus and with more clinical sites and your own patients as a MS1
😉

I agree with Krosburg, Buffdoc! Head on up to Phx. PLEASE!!!! Phx will have better rotation hospitals anyways.

Ann told me they went to 54 last year too, and I'm really hoping thats the case. Going through this application process again will be awful- but I think its great that you applied again Buffdoc. I have a lot of friends that ended up in the Caribbean or in grad school b/c they couldn't muster the strength to apply again.

Does anyone know if more movement is typically expected to happen tomorrow as well? How long to people have to make a decision once they're pulled from the WL?

Sorry for all of the questions. Just trying to decide if I need to start writing up another PS for next year....🙁

Oops! You guys are right. Sorry for my foggy memory. I was #70 last year. Anyway, I wouldn't have applied again if I hadn't made the waitlist. I considered it to be a sign. Reapplying was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I even used the same PS, but I did upgrade my MCAT score.

I guess I'm starting to lean towards Phoenix. I'll probably call and accept the spot tomorrow.

Ahhh I didn't want to cite you as wrong, but it didn't make sense. At least obtaining a wait list spot (even those that don't convert to acceptances) tell you that you are doing the right thing, the right way and maybe this is the place for you. Having been there as well it only stoked the fires for this years round of applications. So Buff congrats and enjoy Phx, they certainly do have a nice program set up with a great curriculum and staff that is sooo happy to see you and make you feel welcome. 🙂

buffdoc, ive thought a lot about it, and i am sure that you need to go to tucson, where you will find more infrastructure and support. This is because i care for your future, and has nothing to do with the fact that tucson rejected me outright and phx put me on the mysterious "2nd tier". I was thinking that i would not be able to go through the application process again, but being put on the wait list does help. Im ready to give it another shot, if i dont get a call....

anyone else out there still waiting on the phx list?

anyone who got an acceptance call willing to tell me what phone # they called from? I want to set a different ringtone for the number as a show of faith🙂

Yea that was the same number they called me on - does anyone know how many people they have pulled of the phx list? I am just curious to compare the waitlist movement between the two schools. I can't believe orientation starts in July! Thats really soon. Good luck Morris 🙂

I think Phx is a great school as well and focuses on important aspects of medicine that Tucson doesn't. Working with patients as a MS1 will give you a lot a exposure to medicine, which is something only Phx offers.

Thats just my 2 cents about the schools. Both have good programs and its really about how much you utilize your school's opportunities

I agree with microbes - I also think that one thing phx does that innovative is their focus on bioinformatics - molecular bio and physical science are not my strong points (nor something I am very passionate about), but I think bioinformatics are going to be HUGE in the medical field in the future and phx is being very savvy by incorporating that into their curriculum. I found a paper in the Journal of Academic Med written by Joiner, Flynn, Chadwick, etc about establishing the phx campus - you can look it up in pubmed: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/...ez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum
I can send it to anyone if they want it in pdf - it basically talks about the struggles to get the med school in phx, lessons learned, and goals.

Thanks for the number, and for the record, I also think phx will be a great school, i put it first on my preference form!

I think Maryland and Microbes hit it right on the head.... while a new program Phoenix does have a lot to offer and continues to fight to bring more online quickly. And it is truly up to you only to utilize what is offered at your school in terms of programs and opportunities.

Fyi ~ Holding at 39 as of this morning per Ann at 9:30

Does anyone have any idea how many people withdrew yesterday? Furthermore, does this process of withdrawing usually go on past May 15th like into early next week?

Wish I had the answer. I'm guessing it will b/c even though people are getting pulled from WLs, they usually take a few days to make their decision. I'm curious how see how everything will end up.

Did anyone find out how many people have been removed from the Phx WL?

Krosburg.... (aka Number 42) walks in, sits down and takes his seat in the Tucson COM Class of 2012 and says Howdy to everyone. The list is still moving people, Good Luck !!

Thank you! They dont move the list until they can contact the people holding those waitlist positions. Hence they told you they were on 41 at 4pm, and I got my call at 2:30pm. Now the list is atleast at my spot 42. But I cant wait to pick up my packet in the morning, seems to surreal until I can see my letter. Then I will believe it! 😎

The PHX admissions office was unavailable, so I called Tucson (by the way they are at 47). According to them, PHX has already accepted 40 off their wait list, and I was under the impression that there are only fifty something on that list. Looks like if we miss out, we barely missed out

Well at least now I know why the conversation about the PHX waitlist died down, everyone else got in!!!! Does anyone know for sure how many people were on PHX's waitlist? I'm curious to know how many people are left

Tara told me back in March that there were about 51 people on the waitlist. Did Tara tell you they were through 40 people? Thats nuts. The whole class will be from the WL!

I wonder what they would do if they accepted everyone from the waitlist and still had seats to fill.

That's crazy...if true 90% of the phx waitlist has already moved and it is still May.

I don't know what they would do if they went through all of it, I would guess the only thing they could do is start calling people who they previously gave the ax.

That would be a HUGE mess! But, I wouldn't mind getting an acceptance from Phx if they're looking for people. That way I could let UofA pass up my 51 spot and they might get to 74. lol😀

Tara didn't tell me that they were up to 40. I talked with the lady at the Tucson campus, and she said "Oh Phoenix has pulled off a lot of people from their list. let me check(slight pause) yeah, they've pulled 40 so far" So it could be wrong, but she sounded sure. She also said they expected the list to stop moving early to mid june and definitely by late june, although she repeatedly gave the anything could happen disclaimer.

I AM ON IT!!

However, if you don't make it into Phx... how about deferring? You should vacation for a year! This is a great opportunity to go explore the world! lol.

I'll think about it. I'm already heading to India in July, so I've got the world traveling thing covered. But, I would have no problem heading to the Phx school instead of Tucson!

i got into phx and they emailed out the most recent class list to us...i don't think they've taken 40 off of the wait list. out of the 24ish people that were at second look, theres a good 15 people on the class list. i would call tara just to make sure though...

Fabulous!!!!

I have a question for those of you living in Tucson right now. I'm looking for a place to live near the U and was wondering how the bus system works around the area. I know there's the Cat Tran (I think thats what its called), but I didn't know how reliable it is and if it runs all day. Also, how is the public bus system in Tucson around UMC? I'm looking at some places: one house (that has no roof on it right now) on Waverly and another on Norton, north of speedway. Any advice or suggestions would be awesome!

I am glad that we hit 49 considering Ann informing me that they were at roughly 47 at this time last year and only made it to 53.. SIGH! Sucks for me who is 74! GOSH DANGIT! So any movement will be great!

Well, just yesterday I drove down to Tucson for the day to put down a deposit on a place to live. Today I was in the process of registering for the classes and right at the moment I was doing that, lo and behold I get a phone call from Tara at Phoenix. It is even stranger than when I recieved word about my Tucson admit (see page 7 of this thread). I am now convinced there is a UofA conspiracy to drive me insane!

Anyways, originally I had preferenced Phoenix and was sure I would have picked that over Tucson. But now, having been to second look at tucson and having thought about Phoenix in the meantime, I am not sure.

I'm torn, although now I am leaning towards tucson. I don't know if I am partial to it just because I had convinced myself I was going Tucson (without a phx acceptance) or because I have had legitimate second thoughts about phoenix.

Crap.
