Obviously, it is very early for this post since application period has not even started. However, I am interested in Temple and Scholl and was wondering if anyone could let me know the chances I have at these and all other pod schools with my stats and possibly a chance at scholarships?..

1. cGPA: 3.46 sGPA: 3.28
Currently completing my MBA in Healthcare so will know grad gpa in spring
2. MCAT: 495 (not too happy but it is what it is)
3. Shadowing: Podiatrist 28 hours, MD 80 hours, DO 25 hours
ECs: 3 years of research (1500 hrs), received national research fellowship, founder of non-profit chapter, hospital volunteer, leadership awards and few other honors.
4. # of programs applied to: Probably all 9 but as mentioned Temple and Scholl are favorites atm. Scholarships would be nice lmao

You're fine for Scholl. Temple likes higher MCAT so I'll say maybe; someone who was recently accepted to Temple can chime in. Good luck!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I am specifically interested in Scholl and Temple, but I just hope to get in somewhere

Can I get accepted to pod school with
Undergrad cumulative gpa = 3.6
Grad gpa in biomedical sciences 2.9

Apply early and I'm sure a school or two will give you a chance, retaking your MCAT wouldnt be a bad idea either but I feel like you should be fine.

So the application for the class of 2025 opens July 30th 2020, but are we able to fill the sections in the meantime? Or would that be a waste of time in case the sections would be erased on July 30th?

Yes, you can do everything now except submitting the application. I did it last year and even sent transctript in before app opened

Thank you! I was confused because the "evaluations" part says the last day to send a request was July 1st (which is for the last cycle).

Do you or anyone else know if we need to have letters on file for an interview? My pre-med committee is taking forever to write my committee letter and they are honestly slowing me down for interviews at other programs since those need LORs to be on file for interview

Different schools have different requirements regarding that. I believe scholl needs everything before they will consider you. Other schools might interview you without having ALL letters. There is still plenty of time to complete everything. If the committee still isn't done in like 2 months, you can send the individual letters to get the process going.

cGPA: 3.16 (freshman year:2.5 due to family reasons—> 3.4 or higher every other semester)
sgpa: 2.99 (not including dual enrollment credits from cc for anatomy and physiology)
Mcat: took it today :( avg Fl: 502-504 but idk how I did today. Assuming the worst so let’s say 490.
bunch of clinical experience in Podiatry and in family medicine.A lot volunteering and some research.
What do you guys think? My heart is set on temple but idk how I feel about the mcat bc I had to leave one question unanswered on CARS due to a glitch and the exam ending early. It made me have this gut wrenching feeling for the rest of the exam.

Got a 505 on mcat 125/124/126/130. Will I be good for temple or nycpm due to lower sgpa?

You should be good. Nice score, congrats!
Thank you! Is there a thread I should look for that helps you pick what schools to apply to? Kind of lost at the moment besides temple and nycpm but only because they visited my school to talk about their programs.

There isn't a specific thread to help you choose which programs to apply to or not...this depends on the applicants (you) more.
However, all the info you need can be found on the AACPM website: https://aacpm.org/colleges/
Click on the "viewbook" tab under each program to read more.

It's mind-blowing how people can score 130 on Psych/So, I took 2 FLs and the real one, could not get anything other than a 126 :(

Hi!

I have my application all ready to submit on July 30th but I am retaking my MCAT in late August. Should I submit my application saying I am planning on taking it in the future or should I wait until I take my test and my score is back?

I really really want to go to Western so I wanted to apply as early as possible!

Thanks!!

Even if you get your scores back in late September, let’s say, you’ll still be considered early so don’t worry! I took mine in September and got my results back in October I think but I was done with my interviews by January, that too in multiple schools.

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is doing well with everything going on right now. I wanted to know what my chances are and how many schools can I safely apply to? I plan to apply for this upcoming cycle and plan to submit primaries as soon as we can submit our apps this Aug!

cGPA: 3.49
sGPA: 3.51
gradGPA: 3.72
MCAT: 499 (1st attempt) > 496 (2nd attempt)
*My mcat score decreased by 3 points :(
ECs: 100 hours of shadowing MDs/DOs, 10 hours of POD shadowing, 1000+ hours of research, 2 publications, 400 hours of hospital volunteering, POD letter of rec, Eagle Scout, hackathon winner, involved in several orgs on campus

Submit when it opens, indicate the future date. It takes time to get everything verified but as stated above, you have time, so focus on the mcat prep more.

It's always discouraging seeing a score drop, but you should be fine for most of the programs. Good luck!

Hey Dexter thanks for your response! My plan was to only apply to Samuel Merrit, Western, Barry, and Scholl where Samuel Merrit is my top choice. Do you think this is a good list for me and do you think I have a decent chance of getting in? Should I add more schools to my list? Thank you so much for all your help, I really appreciate all the work you do on this forum :)

Yeah, you should be fine for those schools as your stats matches their 2019 accepted students' stats. Your GPAs make up the low MCAT score 2nd time.
You can read the programs CIB info here: https://aacpm.org/colleges/

I think 3 programs are enough but if you feel more comfortable in applying to 4 then go for it.

Applying in upcoming cycle around end of August
Cumulative : 3.15
Science gpa: 2.9 ( gen chem and physics was the worst)
Mcat: taking end of the month and practice exams have ranged from 491-493
Extracurriculars: 1,000 hospital volunteering hours, 800 hours as a medical assistant , 500 hours patient care coordinator, 15 hours shadowing a DPM, Medical missionary trip , lab instructor for lower division biology course , sorority philanthropy chair, 250 hours behavioral therapist, etc.
My top choices right now are CSPM and Western ! However I'm also interested in Scholl and Kent

I really hope to get in this cycle and would like any feedback if anyone had similar stats to mine as well and have matriculated :)

You may want to postpone the exam until you're hitting at least 500 on the AAMC FLs.
You will have a better chance if the MCAT is around 500 or better.

Be ready to explain low sGPA and low MCAT if those scores become real.

Seriously consider studying harder for your MCAT.

Its not about getting in. Its about finishing after you get in.

Do you think a strong upward trend will make a difference? My low gpa is due to low gpa in my freshman/ sophomore year of college. Do you think I have any chances of getting an interview this upcoming cycle? If my mcat is 493+

Upward trend helps.

Get the highest MCAT you can. Don't worry about hypotheticals.

Literally work your ass off and just see where it ends up.

Hey guys hoping to hear what my chances are.

Undergrad
cGPA 3.01
sGPA ~2.66 (did really bad freshman year along with 1F in O-Chem, 2 D's (1 freshman& 1 jr year)3 W's multiple C's but also A's/B's

Did a 1 year SMP in Biomedical Sciences 3.96GPA(took courses like biochem anatomy immuno histo etc) (Brings my Overall sGPA to ~3.0 cGPA 3.16)

MCAT scheduled for Sept 28 hoping to score around 495-500

LOR from Pod, Anatomy prof, Embryology prof

Volunteered at pod clinic for 80 hrs shadowed 15, volunteered at md clinic 200 hours shadowed 50

My top choices are Scholl/DMU due to location but I will be applying to all 9 in order to increase chances and would be ok going to any.

Should I wait to apply to my top choices after my MCAT score comes back? (Mid October)

I am open to any and all suggestions thank you!

Also is the cycle open currently? Anytime I try to go to the application page it doesn't tell me sign up it just gives me a sign in option (I havent made an account previously)

The cycle is open now. It's always nice to see an improvement from undergrad to grad schools; however, your chance will heavily depend on the MCAT.
I would suggest pausing everything else, studying very hard for it, and once the score is out to apply broadly, also applying mid-octo is fine. GL.

SMP looks great.
Kill the MCAT to give them no room for doubt

Thanks for the feedback! Will definitely focus on MCAT here on out and I am hoping I can post in the acceptance stats (class of 2025) thread in the future :)

Hey everyone! I'm hoping to hear what my chances are... I am applying for this upcoming cycle 2020-2021.

cGPA 2.87
sGPA ~2.88 (graduated undergrad in 2017, struggled with PTSD in college but doing way better now)

EDIT: postbac sGPA 3.2

MCAT 489 (first attempt) --> 497 (second attempt) --> take it again?

4 years of intercollegiate archery
2 years of research in undergrad (1 publication), worked 2+ years as a research specialist (1 publication + another one underway)
Starting a program this fall (for gap year, M.S. in Education)

Volunteered at various clinical settings / shadowed MD/DO +400h. No substantial pod shadowing or pod LOR yet due to COVID (I was supposed to start in April and continue over the summer T^T), but I did get the chance to observe pod surgeons with open fractures while I was working in the ER.

My top choice is Temple, but will probably apply broadly due to low sGPA :(

I'm open to any advice and suggestions! Thanks for reading this post!

Uphill battle with GPA. MCAT is passable. How difficult was your undergrad?

Getting in is a concern, STAYING in and GRADUATING is what your focus should be.

PM if you want to talk further. Had similar sGPA and MCAT to yours. Graduating May but it was hard.

You need to radically change your study habits and discipline yourself if you want to do well during didactics and pass board exams. This isn't medschool Lite.

Is it better to apply early the first week of September or wait until Jan to apply? Unfortunately I received my mcat score and my stats are the following
cGPA. 3.16
sGPA. 2.90
MCAT 488. ( second time taking)
I have tons of extracurriculars and have taken 30 units in post bacc credits with classes like (biology, microbiology, anatomy, physio, physics, etc (Got an A in all of them)
I am debating on taking even more courses to increase my science gpa to a 3.0 and my gpa to a 3.2 or should I just apply early now? instead of waiting until jan after another semester of courses.

You should retake the MCAT and aim for a better score (close to 500). How did you study for it?

I studied using Kaplan books and the 100 page doc, however my cars score took a serious hit.
Do you think I will be okay to yield an acceptance to atleast 1-2 schools?

I highly suggest a retake. With lower than average GPAs and low MCAT, I do not see how you can get accepted. Even if you do, it's going to be a rough road in medical school.

If you can increase sGPA to 3.0 and cGPA to 3.2 with a few classes, that would be better. Still possible to take fall classes?

Yeah, you should def retake then. Study using khan academy, AAMC materials, and Uworld Questions. If you actually put in the time, you will do a lot better, and for CARS you have to practice every day (use the EK101 passage book if you need to), but I highly suggest using all of AAMC materials (section banks, FLs, etc).

I agree with @de Ribas and @Weirdy your stats are on the lower end (esp the sci gpa), so while a program might accept you, passing term 1 will be very difficult.
If you really want to be a DPM then retake the exam and really study for it. It can be done. Good luck!

Is December still considered early ? If I take a few more units I can bump my statistics to a 3.2 and 3.0. I can also try retaking the mcat in January

Issue isn't your GPA. Your post-bac fixed that regarding upward trends.

We went over this in July when you first posted.

Stop focusing on your GPA.

Start fixing your standardized testing issues.

I understand but since my gpa is borderline as an applicant as well. I want to be able to enhance from any area I can before applying. I am going to retake the mcat in Jan, and try to fix my standardized testing issues as well study better. However, would fixing my gpa in the meantime also increase my chances or should I not take more courses?

If you have someone bank rolling your extra credits - go for it.

Just know at this point, your MCAT is the main factor holding you back.

A bump in GPA is not as helpful as doing significantly better on the MCAT.

Hi! I agree with everyone that your MCAT is playing a factor right now. If you can afford to do the credits, it won’t hurt. I just think that your energy could be better spent raising your score. Good luck though
