Day 1

A grey wolf howled somewhere in the distance, and others soon took up the chorus. This was not a moonlight celebration, but a harmony of grief in the early morning light. Someone had been hunting pelts in the night.

The animals gathered and it was a strange sight to see. The group loitered outside the aquarium, so the aquatic friends among them could join in the conversation. One side of the enormous tank that took up much of the building was set into the outer wall, giving a beautiful view into the depths of the marine enclosure. They heard some panic from one of the staff members, asking how a tiger had gotten into the bonobo enclosure, and why the hell the elephants were so interested in the aquarium today. They ignored the humans - as long as the poachers were around, they had bigger fish to fry.

Naturally the reticulated giraffe, his head held high above the group, seemed to take a leadership role early. He claimed to see much from his lofty position, and so could keep an eye out for the poachers and their animatronic minions.

“How do we know you’re not one of the robots??” said a feline voice with a hiss. “You’d be perfect for the poachers to spy on us!”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” the giraffe scoffed, “There’s no way a machine could replicate the physiologic perfection that is my circulatory system.”

They continued to question him for a while, and the giraffe’s temper boiled. He stomped his feet in agitation. This frightened some of the smaller animals, so they started to turn their attention elsewhere. Something a bit less intimidating perhaps.

The quokka smiled up at them. It warmed their hearts slightly…

“Don’t fall for it! It’s the perfect cover!” said a skeptical sifaka. “That cute face will be our undoing.”
“Oh but just look at the little guy,” said the cheetah, “I can’t do it. I’ll protect him with my life.”
“Well then WHOMST do you suggest is the spy?!” said the high-pitched voice of a kestrel.”
“I think that rabbit is looking pretty suspicious,” said a small voice. No one could quite tell who it was coming from, but suddenly several of the animals agreed. The rabbit had been quite still, not hopping around too much. Perhaps a machine trying not to reveal the lack of fluidity in its movements?

The black bear, with some hesitation, picked up the rabbit and placed it in his mouth. He bit down hard, expecting to be met with cold metal. The rabbit screamed, but her death was swift. Blood poured from between the bear’s jaws.

The Eastern cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus) is found all over North America, and even down into South America. They are prolific breeders, ready to mate at 3 months old, and females having 3 or 4 litters a year. They are solitary as adults outside of mating, and highly territorial. They are important prey for a variety of animals, and so are equipped with speed and almost 360 degree vision to help them avoid predation.

I don't feel great about Nate (as discussed), especially after the fluff misyeet.
I'm undecided on Khepri (I don't know them) but I think they also look bad after fluff.

I can't remember if I brought this up in the ISO I did, but I agree with Genny that the last line is off here. Like the obvious conclusion to this would be that the response is town indicative of AM because she wasn't sensitive to the fact that True was implying she was scum. And like Genny said, if her response helped True why was he still pondering it?
