I am a bit aimless. Perhaps the thread itself is aimless, but I will blame JJJ. Time to do whatever I can to be less aimless. Let's start with the basics.

My role PM was essentially nothing so I've got nothing

Clearly, this game presents an awkward beginning. I think most of us have experienced that in some form or another.

A plausible interpretation is that the only concrete information players received (apart perhaps from role abilities) is whether or not they're in a wolf chat. I've been operating under that assumption, because it's hard for me to see how the game is playable otherwise. I doubt it's entirely that simple, but it's a starting point. However, this comes with some implications:

- I'd imagine that [ambiguous role card] is not just a town phenomenon. That would stand too high a risk of breaking the game, and our host is a major veteran of the job. So the wolves likely have some analogous experience too, and thus some genuine confusion (even if they are already in a wolf chat).

Given the air of confusion in the thread then, I think the wolves would feel extra incentive to participate in that commentary. I extracted the quotes above entirely by searching for the words "start" (i.e., has the game actually started) and "role" (i.e., what is this role card). This is probably not exhaustive as a result, because the search will only catch so much.

I suspect there's an above-average wolf presence among these posts. I'm sure there are villagers too. Even two wolves would be "above average".

I think this should also preclude most of the wilder theories.

Anyways, it looks like a proper role PM went out concurrent with thread open for the Holliday game. I would assume the mafia knew at thread open during night 0 that they were mafia, though I suppose @WildZoo and @katiemcat could verify.

I am not sure if I think Clem would have given the mafia members their own individual PMs and then created a new hood for mafia char, or if they started the game in a hood. I find it difficult to believe that Clem would create a game that could be solved by talking about who did or didn’t have a weird role card on night 0. But I think it’s a little angleshooty to assume either way, so it’s probably correct to just start over.

I’ll assume that night 0 was a chance for people to just get their feet wet and get engaged.

I think it makes as much sense as anything else. I think you could talk yourself into believing the mafia was informed or they were not informed on night 0, but idk how we would ever know with certainty.
