good to know. thanks jolie...btw are those artherosclerosis plaques you have as your avatar (am i saying that right ? 'avatar') ?
Hey folks, I'm a recent Baylor graduate (now at Vanderbilt for residency) - if you have any questions I can answer, I'm happy to chime in. Baylor's a fantastic school - the interview (and seeing the gargantuousness of the Texas Medical Center) will blow you away. And the area around the TMC is safe and affordable to boot. If you get the chance to attend, take it and enjoy the unbeatable combo of savings, opportunities and ego-boosting prestige!
Good luck!
Any tips for the interview? 🙂 As a Texas resident, this school is my top choice!
the interview day is pretty relaxed. the interviews are open IIRC, so your interviewers will probably know a lot about you already.
both of mine had lists of points for discussion on my app. we mainly talked about those things.
hope that helps a little.
This might sound dumb but what does IIRC stand for? I assume "open file" or something like that.
Hey...Congrats!I got an interview invite for today for 9/19, too. But I don't know when I was reviewed/complete

Hey...Congrats!
Haha...I'm probably not going to get interviews at any of the places you will. I'm just not special enough! 😛 It would be nice though!
I don't think any of us are qualified to tell you whether or not that's true. You could e-mail the admissions office to ask, but they'll probably give you a really vague answer. My guess is that they review in batches and you'll be considered with the next batch, and the next batch, etc. Does anyone else have better insight into BCM's adcom?
So....if I submitted my secondary app on 7/12, and it has already been reviewed according to the BCM website, am I to assume that I will not be getting an interview?? I noticed several people on that list submitted their app after me but have already received interview invitations....just curious so I don't get all neurotic. Thanks.
i wouldn't assume anything. as i explained earlier, they take the applications as they come and rank them. invites are given to the top X people for interviews. you could totally get one later. it really depends.
i doubt you'll find out anything from the admissions office. just be patient. i submitted my secondary around the same time as you did last year and got an interview invite in october. i heard of people getting them much later than that too with an early submission.
omg, i found 2 typos on my submitted secondary
To pinaola - it means the committee has reviewed your application, given it a score, and now you're going to be selected to interview.
Wait.. whaat?! Maybe I'm misreading your post, but couldn't that mean you could have been rejected as well?
Mine says:
Your application is complete and has been reviewed by the committee.
We will let you know something as soon as we are able.
Baylor College of Medicine interviews from September through February.
You are eligible for interview consideration through February
What's that mean!?!
I apologize, I mistyped, and considering how on edge your emotions probably are, that's a crime against nature. It means that Baylor will consider you for an interview. We didn't have the notifications (at least I don't remember getting one) - as hard as it, you get to wait until the committee gives you your interview. I don't know why they offer interviews when they do, all I can tell you is I interviewed late-ish and got in a week later, and others in my graduating class interviewed on the first offered interview day and weren't accepted until May. Please try to relax - it's hell, but it's one of those situations outside of your control and trying to read into the letters sent to you will only give you an ulcer.
i don't know all the specifics, but i do know that it requires an extra year of coursework.
you don't have to know definitively right now either. you will still have the opportunity to sign up as a first year. i think it's pretty much a "if you want it, you got it" type of deal.
yeah, im just confused as to if you check 'yes' on the MD/MPH option on the secondary what that means. is it a definite requirement to apply to the MPH? or more like "i'm interested"? Since they just announced it officially at the end of August I can't imagine they have everything worked out...
They said you should apply to UTSPH before August 1, 2009 if you want the dual degree. If you check yes on the secondary for MD/MPH and change your mind later, I don't think it will matter at all. Even if you start your first year in the dual program and decide later not to pursue the MPH, it won't matter. I hope that helps!
Not to sound rude, but be careful what you wish for. After seeing the amount of neurotic, competitive cutthroats there you may be singing a different tune after your first year.

Baylor has one of the most collaborative, supporting environments I've ever been a part of. It actually shocked me during my first year, b/c i expected the cut-throat pre-med environment most of us are used to. Fellow students send out more study guides than I can handle. We are continuously getting emails from older students eager to share their wisdom. it's a LEARNING environment... not one of dog eat dog.
