did they send the snail mail invite to your legal permanent address or your preferred?

For the interview, do I just show up at the admissions office? I have no idea where my paper invite is, so the only thing I know about my interview is it's time and a dot on the campus map where I think admissions is.

630 West 168th Street. (You can google map it and get really good subway directions!) When you walk in the front door, the admissions office is right in front of you on the right. Good luck 🙂

for those snail mailed for an interview: was it sent to you preferred address or permanent address?

can anyone tell me how to check my status for the Columbia app? I got an email saying that it was submitted (but didn't state complete) and if I try to log in again, it shows all empty fields in the application....

waiting sucks so much. I wish i was omniscient. I hate not knowing. March seems a ways away.

ok columbia is officially the slowest school at marking people complete....its totally been over a month since i submitted my secondary, picture and LOR

There is no way to check your status. You must wait for their "complete" email.
And yes, this was the very first school I submitted and it definitely took about 2 months for them to mark me complete

aw man, thanks for the info. checking for updates/new emails has definitely become a new obsession.... 😳

How long did it take to go from complete to interview invite or rejection? I could almost live with the 2 month wait for a complete e-mail if they have a quick turn around for interviews like AECOM does.

I'm sure it varies but it was 1.5 months for me.

yeah it was around 1.5 months for me. but it took a month to be complete. lol

O man. I'm at 6 weeks waiting for a complete e-mail so I can only imagine how long it will take after that.

For me it only took about 20 days from submission to complete. Then it was 12 days from completion to interview invite.

My case might be different, though, because I sent an "in the area" email after submitting my secondary.

I sent an e-mail asking if all my materials were in or if I was missing anything and I never got a response. I hope they received all of my stuff.

so i got a letter from columbia today thanking me for sending a thank you letter to my interviewer and saying that they would like to "assure me that they will keep me very strongly in mind."

im almost afraid to read too much into it...

🙁 I haven't gotten any response to my thank you card. I sent it through the admissions office, like they told me. Thanks for making me worry. 😛

did you send a hard copy letter?

yeah columbia is the shyt. AR that is awesome. Ur in there like swimwear Girl! Ull be fine. Enjoy the sucess and wait for more acceptances. Ur problem at this point and in the future is not getting into medical school, but choosing which one to go to

Hate to break it to you, but these letters are typical for Columbia. I emailed my thank you letter to my interviewer (so it would get there sooner) and I still got a snail mail response from Dean Frantz. If you look at old Columbia threads on here, you will see that he has been sending these sorts of letters out forever (there are probably a decade's worth of threads here discussing this), and previous posters have agreed that whether you receive one of these letters (or which letter you receive) does not signify your chances of acceptance. Although it is an incredibly considerate and personal gesture, try not to read into these responses!

at least its nice that they do send responses. lol

I finally got a complete email today (I submitted on 9/13). At this point I'm sure it doesn't even matter since they are probably well on their way to filling their class... oh well

Columbia isn't rolling so I don't think your late-ish completion will be an issue.

Really? I didn't know that 😉 That makes me feel a little bit better. Now I can go back to my original ideas about why Columbia hates me haha

Yea...I'm still not complete (submitted 9/15) so I'm pretty bummed about my chances as well. I'm heading to NYC tommorow, and I considered sending an "in the area" e-mail way back but I thought it'd be awkward since I'm not even complete yet, ha.

Again...non-rolling...

Haha, I sent them that email for Sinai, before I was complete. I just got AECOM, and I just got the complete email again today, and I was wondering whether sending that letter again would make a difference?

I'm more worried for interviews (rolling). If it takes a month for them to review apps, they may well have used up all of their interview slots by then.

Hmm well, did Sinai reply saying they made a note of it in your file? If so, you're probably good to go.

Does Columbia schedule interviews on M-F? Would it be hard to do NYU and Columbia back to back?

did you send them an 'in the area' email? and when did you get submit/complete/invite email?

also, just as a general comment i did my first back to back interviews last week- it was rough. it might be easier with shorter interview days- both of mine were 8ish-4ish.

No and today.

Any insight on what days of the week they offer interviews?

I'm pretty sure they interview every day of the week, unless there's a holiday or something that week.

There were two times I had back-to-back interviews (VCU/Maryland and AECOM/Columbia) and it was completely manageable. I think ar2388 did both NYU and Columbia in the SAME DAY.

haha yeah i did do nyu and columbia on the same day. weird coincidence eh? i did the nyu tour and lunch and interview and then headed uptown for my columbia interview. i missed the tour and lunch but they did say i could do it another day. i may just wait until march and see what the verdict is. lol

I'm sorry if this is repetitive, but just to clarify, does Columbia send out e-mail interview invites or ONLY snail mail? Just so I know to be vigilant about checking mail. Thanks!

I received an email invite followed by a snail mail invite. I think I've seen other posts where people have only received the snail mail invite.

Only snail mail (so far)

I wonder if they take attendance....

haha i hope no attendance. i did pick up my info book and stuff.

I'm booking my travel plans to/from Columbia. My interview is scheduled for 3-4. The last BoltBus leaves at 5:30 from 34th and 8th. For anyone who is familiar with the city, is 1.5 hours enough time to get from Columbia med to the bus stop? Have your interviews here generally been ending on time?

THANKS 🙂

My interview started about 10 minutes late but only lasted 25-30 minutes. 1.5 hours should be plenty of time to get there. Just hop on the A Train headed downtown, and get off at the Penn Station (34th St.) stop. It's about a 20-25 minute subway ride.

So I'm a slight idiot and forgot my paper invite in my apartment and am already in New York...I have my interview tomorrow afternoon (I believe around 2:15-2:30). They said to come in at a certain time for the tour and lunch, but I can't find the paper I wrote that time on. For some reason, I'm thinking 11am...is that right?

Mine said my interview was at 10:30 and the tour and lunch are 11:45-2. It might be different for you, just call them in the morning.

When I went, lunch and tour was from 11:45am to 2pm. I assume it's the same for you. If you get there beforehand, you can sit in the first year lecture.

Good luck!
