May be P&S is a perfect fit for him. I'm sure even you have a top choice. I think I am missing your point. Why should he be scared?

It's like Michael Scott said, "Do I want to be feared or loved? That's a good question. I want both. I people to be afraid of how much they love me!" You know, if they don't accept him he will be crushed cause of the emotional investment.

I know I'm also counting down the days anxiously. Not only was Columbia the perfect fit, but it's also my only interview. I was honestly surprised how much I loved it, it far exceeded my expectations for medical school in general. I'm hoping :xf:, and wish all of you good luck :luck:

Sounds like a relationship. The point being that you have to make yourself vulnerable if you want to have a meaningful relationship.
gl:luck:

Hahaha...I don't think you're in a position to criticize anyone's enthusiasm for a particular school. And it wasn't a particularly nice comment.

In your own words, an actual MightyChip post:

"weill cornell weill cornell weill cornell weill cornell weill cornell

ok im done.

😀"

I rest my case 🙂.

first of all, my question was NOT intended to be mean, and after re-reading it I really don't see how it could ever be interpreted as being mean/inappropriate. I was not in any way trying to put him down, I was simply trying to figure out how Chad could be so confident enough to put all his eggs in one basket, especially at a school like Columbia which is so hard to get into. I too am in Chad's position, as we all are. In reference to my "weill cornell!" post that stuck so strongly in your memory (weird?), I posted that in excitement AFTER being accepted, so you bringing it up makes absolutely no sense. As for the person who says I am hating on Columbia because I'll be matriculating at Cornell, you really have NO idea what you're talking about. I applied to Columbia and I am waiting too! I don't have a clear cut first choice yet. You guys seriously need to calm down. It doesn't seem like Chad had a problem with my question.

Wow, looking at your MDapps, I don't even know how that happened to you. Good luck!:luck::xf:

I did not take MightyChip's post to be malicious and I think it was a legitimate question. Let's all please try to quit bickering and keep it civil in here.

I'm not going to be emotionally crushed if I'm not accepted. I will definitely be disappointed and a little upset, but I'll just have to move on and get ready to attend elsewhere.

It's just like, if you really like a girl and you think she could be "the one," you get really excited about it - but then if she rejects you, you realize that it wasn't meant to be and you move on. But if she does accept you, then it's the best thing in the world.

Don't get me wrong, I REALLY want to get into P&S. It's just that I'm not going to become clinically depressed if I don't. I'm a little more well-adjusted than that. 😉

BREAKING NEWS! (haha)

I called the admissions office today and they said the admissions committee is meeting to select the class NEXT WEEK.

Talk about nervous anticipation!

Good luck everyone!

Gawd I was kind of exhausted with all the parties I've been to (and have coming up) this month, but now I'm thinking it's not enough to keep me distracted until March 1st-ish.

My new plan is to alternate hyperventilating with puking with screaming in frustration.

Thanks for the good news (at least I hope it is good).

HOLY COW!!!!!! :scared: Thanks for the update. I'm glad that I sent my LOI and update letter in plenty of time for them to be considered. At least I have some things to keep me distracted the next couple weeks...

Good luck everyone! :luck: :xf: I wish you all the best!

I'm predicting March 2nd. :xf:

So I lurk all the time and hardly ever say anything, but I just wanted to say that I hope you get in, Chad! 🙂 You've been wanting this so much for so long!

Yep...these non-rolling schools are torture. 🙁

versus waiting for a school that may send you a letter sometime between january and april? Its hard to say that non rolling is worse. At least you know when they are coming.

here's another lurker who's pulling for you, chad =).

chase

BTW, lady marid, i like your mark twain quote... reminds me of seneca's "non scholae sed vitae discimus" (we learn not for school but for life).

I'm pulling for you too, Chad! Here's another nugget of info: my interviewer told me in a follow-up email that "admissions letters will be going out about March 2."

Thanks, I appreciate it. 🙂 I try not to be one of those book-smart people who doesn't pay attention to the real world...

Do they send them with First Class Mail?

Chad, I think we should be hearing back on the 4th then! (maybe the 5th if they mail things out late). I'll need to keep myself busy at work that week!

last year, i think acceptance packages were sent out on the Friday (i.e. next friday) and arrived on the Monday (i.e. this March 2) for people in the general NYC area, and a day or 2 later for people farther away from the Northeast.

Since I'm still in school, our mailboxes are really small and no packages fit in them. We usually get e-mails from the mail room telling us packages have arrived. Hence, on March 2nd, I will be waiting nervously by my computer for an email. If I don't get one, then I'll know it was just a waitlist/rejection letter that fit in the mailbox.

BTW, aren't you guys happy that February only has 28 days this year?! Last year they had to wait an extra day cuz of the leap year. I keep thinking we have longer to wait till March 2nd. It's only 11 days now-- tomorrow, we'll start counting down from 10!!!

Thanks for the support and that tidbit. I will probably still start stressing on 2/28 (the absolute earliest I think decisions could arrive), though!

Acceptances come via priority mail in big envelopes. Waitlists and rejections are in regular envelopes, first class mail.

 Yes, I am very happy about that!

Last year they were sent out the last Friday of Feb and continued until Monday. Acceptances were mailed via Priority Mail (2-3 business day delivery, but it seemed to be taking longer than that) and comes in a fat envelope. Waitlists and rejections were mailed via First Class (whatever a regular letter is) and came in a small envelope.

My anxiety levels have increased after reading these recent posts. For whatever reason, I've been thinking March is still light years away since November when I interviewed for most of the non-rolling schools. Didn't quite dawn on me that it's only a little over a week away!

Hoping for good news from Columbia and some other non-rolling schools 🙂

Hello from the MDPhD side of the applicant pool! For us, they said that decisions have already been made and we should get them by the end of the month. Looking at last year's forum, we should get them sometime around the 23rd-25th and most likely they've already sent them out! Hopefully they'll give me some love :xf: and good luck to all of you guys!

btw, Chad, I go to VCU too! Are you still in school? Go Rams!

I thought I remembered that about you! No, I graduated in May 2008 but I'm doing clinical research on the MCV campus and my girlfriend is a senior on the Monroe Park side, so I'm around all the time.

I really hope you get accepted MD/PhD at Columbia (partly so I don't have to compete with you for a regular MD acceptance! 😉) Dr. Leibowitz told me that if I ended up at Columbia I'd be the first VCU grad to go to P&S. 🙂 Let's hope that there can be two of us there next year! :xf:

Unfortunately I am two days away by both Priority and First Class (according to the usps website) so when I receive my news isn't going to mean anything! But I guess this means I start running home on Monday. I'm half debating asking the front office at my apartment and asking them to email me if anything comes from Columbia and what it is... But that would be ridiculous.

Now I'm all excited/nervous already! Why can't I stay away from SDN?

soooo..... interviews are done huh? 😳

Haha, chad, I also remember you...way back from the August 2007 MCAT threads. At least we've made it this far!

No.

I called yesterday and the lady told me that the committee is going over the rest of the applications and that the last batch of invites will be going out next Friday.

10 days!

In less than a week, decisions will be made!

I'm confused about this. If true, does this mean that at some point people are just interviewing for the waitlist? I hope that wasn't the case when I interviewed last week...

non-rolling decisions are stressful!

the interview seems like ancient history

I know!!!! I hope my interviewer remembers me! I did try to make a personal connection and mentioned it again in my thank you note.

I can't believe we're going to have our decisions in a week and a half. The past five months have been tough.

I think I need to stop checking this thread and just let the next week roll by...haha. Of course, although I say that, I'll most definitely be back sometime soon 🙂

No offense but I don't think counting down to March 2nd is a very productive thing to do. Try doing something that takes your mind off of it, e.g. watching the Oscars tomorrow night .
