It seems like some people are getting their decisions at their home address and others at their school (preferred) address??

For those of you who got in on the west coast, when was the postmark? I assume Tuesday March 3rd?

No postmark... it just says $4.95. The envelope says priority mail but doesn't specify what kind.

To me it sounds like all those who were accepted heard today. People were accepted from NJ to Nebraska and California.

At least to me, this sounds like since I haven't heard yet, my snail mail is not priority mail and hence wasn't accepted.

boo, no news yet. i wish they would just tell everyone at the same time. im in new jersey, so i'm guessing it's not a good sign. but i still didn't receive a WL or rejection so I'm not throwing in the towel either.

Shemarty, I do admire ur optimism🙂 i'm pessimistic though, since folks in Canada got fedex mail, I think i'm either waitlist/rejected. i'd rather believe the fact than having a false hope and let it preoccupy my mind for another couple days. .. anyways, u have really good stats and amazing interviews! i'm sure u have better offers waiting🙂

As far as I can tell from today's posts, only one SDN-er in the 5 boroughs has heard (and it was a WL), so........ I'm trying not to give up hope yet.

But... it's looking grim.

Maybe they held the acceptances until getting the others out because they knew that you'd get it within a day, and thus weren't as high a priority as folk waiting 2-3 mailing days away. Keep up the hope!

Yeah I think that's probably right. Seems like they used the fastest methods to get acceptances to people furthest away. So as long as you're within however many days it takes regular mail to arrive within the city, I wouldn't worry!

I came home to a rejection. 🙁 It hurt but I'll get over it. I didn't write an LOI because I'm torn between this school and one, maybe two others (I'm hesitant about living in nyc). But I really loved Columbia and I was really happy about the idea of a medical school that puts on musicals (I used to be really heavily into theater; tech stuff). I sent a Thank You email and handwritten note to my interviewer but never got any response.

So I guess that's it for me in this thread. Good luck to those of you on the Wait List and those who haven't heard anything yet!

(I was going to drown my sorrows in Ben & Jerry's but my boyfriend is being awesome and bringing me Thai Food instead).

Yeah a tad, plus unless you've got funkymunk beaten in sheer number of interviews, chances are low that schools that we withdrew from would benefit you!

It sounds like there's no set formula for how Columbia is releasing decisions, since people have gotten acceptances, rejections, and WLs everywhere from NYC to San Fran and Canada. I'm thinking they did their mailing over the course of 2-3 without prioritizing acceptances before rejections and waitlists. To me, this suggests that no news is still good news...here's hoping there are still some big envelopes making their way around the country!

To me, this suggests that no news is still good news...here's hoping there are still some big envelopes making their way around the country!

I'm thinking that all acceptances were mailed on Tuesday and were mailed priority (2 day delivery max) and that's why people from east coast, midwest, and have all heard by now. I'm guessing that WL and rejections were mailed via normal mail. That's why the many people close to columbia have receive WL/rejection letters and others much further away have not.

If my theory is correct, I'm guessing that no one from the midwest and west coast has received any WL/rejections yet. They probably will receive them today and tomorrow.

Either it hasn't made it this far or I didn't get in. I'll check again tomorrow 🙂

I live in SF, CA... my mail came in yesterday around 1pm. Small envelope, letter was dated March 3rd... REJECTION ouch! Got from NYC to SF in 2 days! That's pretty efficient by USPS standards, no? No more NYC dreaming for me, I've resigned myself to a fate in year round flip-flop wearing UCSan Diego........ oh well. Goodluck to everyone else.

Is it possible that there's no postmark date? All I see is a sticker with the postage price of $4.95 and the zip code where it was sent from (10032).

I called my dad at home, since that's where my mail gets sent. He sees the mail truck on the other side of the street. He's gonna call me back when it makes its way down our side of the street, haha.

Yeah, someone who got accepted to last year's class said he got his letter 4 days late. So there's some hope. Doesn't mean there's much hope but there's more hope than no hope 🙁.

Yea, did anybody get a waitlist letter that didn't say "highly ranked"?

It seems like the 3 options are "acceptance" "highly ranked waitlist" and "rejection"?
