hmmm. I tried checking my status, but their link doesn't work. Anyone else know?

I'll be there on Monday,

but who is going to that pizza place with the med students on Sunday night?

If it is at Gina's you should go. Get the garlic cheese bread, super tasty. The pizza and beers ain't so bad either.

When/where!?!? I am going to the pre interview dinner put on by the Coalition of UC irvine's latino/filipino medical students at 6pm, but that is on the campus. Maybe i'll swing by the pizza place to meet more students after the 6pm dinner.

Does "pending review" mean they haven't looked at the application yet, or can it also mean that I'm on hold? Some people earlier in this thread seem to have a different but similar status--something like "decision pending," which makes this more confusing. I've been complete for over 9 weeks and still have "pending review."

Pending review means under review...so they haven't looked at your app yet.

Interviewed today and was extremely, extremely impressed.... People always say that when you are visiting schools, the one that is right for you will just jump out at you and youll have no doubt that thats where you will be happiest....... well that just happened today!! On top of that, my interviews went really well, and my 2nd interview (the one with the doctor) was even crazier b/c she graduated from my high school and lived like a few blocks from where I live when I am back at home..............how crazy is that? Needless to say we got a long really well and am praying for an acceptance!!

Wow, they must be very backed up. I was complete 8/5 and i'm still stuck with that message.

I was complete on 7/13 - and am also still pending! Ah, well. BTW, went to a conference there last weekend, and really liked it, too.

Not exactly, I have the pending review status and the secretary told me that they had already reviewed my app once and that no decision was made. She said that it will go to another review later on. So its neither a good thing or a bad thing.

How is that true? I was told "pending decision" meant the same thing 😛

I got an interview today, but on the schedule interview page, there is nothing to select. The two phrases "Select Interview Date" and "Available Dates" are show on the page, but nothing else to see/select/click on. I tried using IE and firefox, but both had the same problem.

Anyone else have this same issue?

Haha, who knows! Its impossible to make sense out of any of this. The craziest thing is that UC Davis still hasn't sent out any invites!

yeah my alma mater is sloooooow. Hope we'll hear some good news from them
Fingers crossed!

This happened to some other people. I think it just means all dates available have been filled. Wait a few days. More dates should be made available. Congrats on the newest invites!

Zot!

Have any other OOS applicants received a secondary? Does UCI reject people pre-secondary or do they just let you hang b/c I've been waiting for quite a while and all it still says is "Pending Review"?

I guess I didn't pass their initial stats review, because my status check says "Pending Review".

Irvine and Davis have ~0 to 1% admission rate for out of state. It's almost impossible to get an acceptance.

Yes, they reject pre secondary.

Yes, they reject pre secondary.

Do you know whether it will change from "Pending Review" to "Denied" or "Rejected" if someone is rejected pre-secondary? I'd rather just be rejected then left in the dark.

Yes the status should change if you are rejected. it will not say decision pending or pending review if you have been rejected.

Not true... This year's admission of OOS was 10%+ Notre Dame, Michgan, and others. Granted this is not high, but certainly more than ~0-1%...

are you sure about that? They dont even accept 10% of their total applicant pool. Maybe I am misunderstanding you.

People from California do go to undergraduate schools outside of the state...

This is my first post on here, and I just scheduled an interview for November 12. Since I'm going for the PRIME-LC, part of my interview is supposed to be in Spanish. does anyone know what the Spanish portion of the interview is like?

You're not differentiating between out of state and out of state colleges.

Out of State applicants are not California residents. Their acceptance rate at UCI is EXTREMELY low. In the 0-1% range.

Then there are instate applicants who went out of state for college, they grew up here, their parents live here, and they are still considered in-state applicants despite spending 4 years at an out or state college. Yes we have plenty of these students.

From what I heard at my interview about the program, you are supposed to conduct most of the interview in Spanish, especially parts about helping the Latino community. They generally want to know your level of the Spanish language. It is meant to assess how proficient you are in Spanish. Hope that helps.

anyone heard back about decisions yet????

I just got put on the alternate list today. Interviewed 10/6. Anyone else heard anything from UCI? Good, bad, indifferent?

If i recall correctly, I think they said that they accept about 1/3 of the applicants striaght up after interview and the rest are put on the waitlist? She also mentioned they often times get quite a lot of movement, so I wouldnt give up hope! Oh, and I dunno if she told this to you guys, but she mentioned that LOIs can greatly work in your favor. Aka if you are on the waitlist and you sent them a LOI, you will be pulled before someoene else who has not shown any interest in the school...So I would definitely write one if it is anywhere near your top choice.

Alternate list for me as well. I interviewed on the same day as you.

Did you really swear? I know what you mean though about the BS talk. I must have been too laid back, I think it was a trap. They want to hear how you are gonna be the best med student there and not the best surfer! well, you live and learn...

true story. i swore multiple times. they weren't expletitives, more adjetive swears (when talking about some of my patients: "they're situation is so ****ed up"). Stupid me. I think it was my subconsious trying to sabatoge me (i've already spent 6 years in OC, another 4 could be tough).

seriously, they were all about being a relaxed place to do med school, but i think i was a bit too casual too.

I don't think a casual slip of the tongue probably will sink your chances, but there are certainly better ways to show that you're relaxed or laid back than dropping the F-bomb. I swear all the time when I'm among friends, but if I was interviewing people for a professional school, I would expect them to conduct themselves accordingly. Someone who can't hold their tongue for 30 consecutive minutes might give me pause.

Hm... I interviewed on that day too, but no word and no status update.

*sigh*

i personally found irvine depressing

I went there for undergrad...it is kind of boring. But on campus there is a lot of things to do and newport beach is like 5-10 minutes from the school. LA is only a 45-60 minute drive if you want to go there on a weekend. Its no Santa Barbara, but it sure hell beats going out of state. I would LOVE to go there for med school.

I actually didn't know about this until recently, but UCI puts on a pizza dinner before the interview day to give interviewees a chance to talk to medical students in an informal environment. This is a great idea!

Anyways, is any one going to the one tomorrow night (Tuesday, 11/11)? I'd love to meet some SDN people there!

I know that Irvine is this perfect suburb with trees spaced exactly 10 feet apart, but NB is awesome!!!! That's party central... NB is like 10 mins away from UCI and definitely NOT boring and filled with chill people. I remember party hopping from a beach house to a beach house at NB when I was young, haha. If you're not into partying, then you just chill at the beach.

I'm curious, has anyone actually been accepted so far at UCI? More specifically, those who interviewed 10/6?

i havent even heard of anyone getting accepted from the interview group before 10/6 ( i just checked the accceptance thread as well).

Nope, no acceptances of as the 10/6 group. However waitlist decisions are up for that group online on the status page... I found out through a friend who got waitlisted =(

i just want a freakin interview!! 😛

anyhow congrats to those of you who interviewed, i hope UCI treats you well!
