interview invite !!

buuuuttt it conflicts with another interview..

im gona be missing A LOT of school this semester

Congrats! I'm scheduled for Oct 6, maybe I'll see you there.

As far as appeals go, you can write a letter to the admissions committee saying something like "you missed something." All it'll cost you is a stamp. There's a part of me that wants to do it for every rejection at every step along the way.

What's odd is that they are rejecting people post-secondary when there are plenty of people who haven't even gotten secondaries yet (that would be me). I didn't get one from them last year, either.

Question - Do biochemistry, microbiology, anatomy, and/or physiology count as upper division bio?

I think that the interview invites for right now are all on October 6th, so if franksta has a conflict he/she probably won't be there, and the next available date is Oct 27th. I dont really like how they only have two days per month w/ a large number of interviewees per session (about 40 i was told). Oh well tho.

Anybody else goin the 27th?

well hopefully you will get one soon. yeah i'm kind of surprised that i was denied so early. i know a lot of schools have sent out rejections like uchicago, bu and georgetown but those came out in batches. I'm instate too so there must be something they didn't like about my application

That is crazy that you got rejected, you have better numbers than me and a lot of other people as well. Sorry to hear that. Your MCAT is well above the average at the school too.

I am! Thankfully I was able to reschedule my other interview and I won't have to fly to socal for two weekends in a row. Yay!!!

You just described 99% of the U.S. population.

awesome! Nice to know there will be another SDN member among the crowd 🙂.

wow... this is the second time in 24 hours that I am ashamed to go to 'SC...

*disclaimer - I eat donuts, I am here entirely on financial aid and I'm not in a sorority

why would you be ashamed to go to SC? i thought the article was so funny. maybe its because i actually read that email that girl sent out

btw: i'm on financial aid and i'm not in sorority too.. so its not everyone

microbio does as long as it is considered an upper-div at your school, but biochem does not count as bio, it is listed under chemistry.

Just got interview invite Oct 6! Does anyone know any UCI med students? I would like to get in touch with someone and ask a few pre-interview questions...

Again:

*** if anybody needs a ride from la to Irvine on the 10/6 interview date, pm me. I will pick you up and drive you there for free. ***

I just signed up for Oct. 27 too! Do you guys know anything about the interview process? Is it done in groups?

YAY! I'll see you on the 27th :luck:.

I dont know too much detail about the process, but I konw they only do two interview days per month and they invite about 40 applicants per day. So, its going to be a large group. They have more details on one of the emails they sent, it had a link or something and you can kidna read about what the day will be like. I know tehre is an optional tour at 8 in the morning but the day officially starts at 9 am.

look forward to meeting you!

me either?! I got all the others?? they are taking so long. I am still Pending Review... Good luck to you all 🙂

I am still pending review for UCI...but I kinda take it as a silent rejection since it's been a while and they already started interviewing.

I hope you're wrong because I've been pending review for a long time at tons of schools with zero invites :scared:

All you guys pending review, when were your applications complete?

I hope I am wrong too. I am just preparing for the worst outcome. So Chill buddy

well we know that they've rejected people pre-secondary (according to rejection thread) so i'm still hopefuly that maybe they'll send me one? otherwise, why haven't they just rejected me yet?

I believe most schools have an initial review of an applicant. Then if the applicant is favored, then s/he is given a secondary/interview. If borderline, the application goes through another review, after the favored applicants are interviewed. Some will turn out to be douchebags and some that are accepted will not choose that particular school. In that case, the borderline applicant is given a chance. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I highly suggest that you call the admissions office. They'll tell you your standing - whether you're rejected, or in the pipeline (didn't pass the initial review but there's another one, or no one looked at your app yet, etc).

I'm really hoping for an invite...

So if they only have 2 interview days a month, and one is Nov 12, does anyone know when the other one in Nov is? When I went to schedule it, the 12th was the only day - I can do it, but I was wondering what the other choice was...

The interview days in november are the 12th and the 20th........ good luck!

Is the UCI school of medicine website not working for anybody else? I want to schedule my interview (just got an email) but the link provided doesn't work, nor does navigating from their health mainpage.

So I've been invited for an interview on Nov12th but cannot make it since I will be out of town. I've emailed them about changing the date, but they havent responded yet. Has anyone changed the date and how long does it usually take them to respond back? I don't wanna keep bugging them with multiple emails but I'm afraid that Nov20th spot will be full. Thanks!

I changed my date from Oct 6th to Oct 27th. I got an email response pretty quickly (within the same day). You can also call the admissions office and let them know your situation. GL.

I recently had an interesting change in my status for UCI. I'm complete on everything, and so up until recently in the interview box, it read "pending review." Now, it has changed to "decision pending."

Does anyone have an idea of what this change means? Or, is it just nothing, and UCI is now using "decision pending" instead of "pending review." Thoughts anyone?

Not sure man, maybe it means you are about to get an interview. I don't see why not with your stats and ECs.

Weird. I don't know what that would mean. I never, ever had "pending review"...always had "decision pending"

WHAT1😱
I have had "Pending Review" for forever and a day! Uhh, is that a good thing or a bad thing?

I can understand that from the start it could be either "decision pending" or "pending review," and they'd mean the same thing. But, to have it change is what seems odd. That means someone actually changed it (unless the computer at UCI is playing around with us).

I'm thinking that it changes from "pending review" to "decision pending" when the application is actually opened up on the computer by someone on the adcom. You go from the hinterland to front screen. Just a thought, maybe I'm totally off.

I bet 100 virtual bucks that you're getting an invite tomorrow. Calling it now.😀

mr anthropologist,

i think its good news. mine changed too, i remember being like wtf? then i got an invite shortly later, don't remember the exact sequence of things or the number of days etc, but it definitely changed before my invite.

good luck.

Ha ha. That'd be pretty funny if SDN could invent someway of making virtual money that we could bet each other on.

I hope you're right. More correctly, I think a decision will be coming soon though.

Franksta! You've confirmed my thoughts. Thanks for your two cents.

I am a first year at UCI right now and just wanted to let all of you guys know that a "pending review" status is not the end of the road. I certainly wouldn't be here if it was. I didn't interview until the end of March. Just be patient (I know it is impossible... I applied twice to medical school and had zero interviews the first time). Just keep the school updated about grades and new stuff you are involved in, but don't over-do it. Just use some good old fashion common sense.

Also, I want to make a plug for UCI. I did the post-bacc at Georgetown, so I have some experience at another medical school, and I can tell you that the student body/administration here at UCI is absolutely incredible. Pretty much the most laid-back environment you could ask for. If you are a gunner and want to Honor every class, go somewhere else. If you want to have fun in a collaborative environment and become a good physician, come on down.

Alrighty, sorry to rant. And good luck!!!

Cheers

Quick question. On a previous UCI thread they were talking about how applications are classified as "stellar" vs. "regular." Does anyone know what category is "manual review?" Is the "manual review" category lower than regular? Or is it just a separate category all together? Just wondering if anyone knows. Obviously I'm asking cause I called in and found out I fall into this category.

lets hear from the people that interviewed today!! how did it go?
