Loon, I am OOS and I have had "decision pending" for more than two months, so it's looking unlikely that I will receive a secondary from them. Did you receive one? If not, are you IS or OOS?

Mdapps can actually annoy me sometimes. I was browsing through and found several applicants with similar ECs to me, but lower GPA and MCAT, who now have UCI interviews...

UCI was never a fall-back school, but it wasn't supposed to be a long shot either. My real long shots were my out of state schools (Oregon and Hawaii) and I have gotten interviews from both!

Not sure if this applies but they acknowledged my AMCAS on 6/19 and I still haven't gotten a secondary and when I called to ask about it maybe a month or two ago, they told me that graduate students are put into a different pool and it takes longer to get to them and that I may be waiting until January for a secondary...

I still havent received a secondary from UCLA and I submitted my primary app in late June, verified in mid July. Ive just figured it is a delayed rejection and even if I do get a secondary at this point im not going to fill it out.

Hey I was worried about UCLA too, I didnt receive a secondary from them until mid-October. If they haven't rejected you yet, it is good news. You just have to wait it out for the long-haul.

Send a letter of interest, they seem to be more responsive to that.

I interviewed 10/27 then got put on "alternate list" (application purgatory) 11/17 but they didn't tell me, I had to go check my application status page. It's wierd it was a quick return, "Quick lets get this guy on hold ASAP!"

Anyway, I called and they said this means more waiting. Anyone have a perspective on this, extra info that may help?

me too!!! I just called and was told "our staff is still reviewing applications for secondaries" and I wanted to interject and say, 'but it's been 4 months!' but didnt bc she seemed like she was tired of answering similar calls.

Lots of people get put on the waitlist and lots of people get pulled off the waitlist. I wouldn't worry about it too much. They start pulling a few people off in Feb and continue until July.

Yeah, I am not sure what is going on. This whole process can get frustrating, especially since there is no rhyme or reason regarding who gets interviews when. Also, you never know when its a good time to call the school, since they probably get hundreds of the same calls daily.

Yea, I did as soon as I read your post. No status change as of now, but who knows how long that will last. They seem to be only making status changes if its a waitlist, and acceptances come by phone call w/ no status change before hand. You never know with this crazy process. Best of luck on waitlist movement! I know if i get put on the waitlist, Ill be sending a letter of intent for sure.

One of the head admissions people (I forget who, they all blend together at this point in the process) told me that they divide the waitlist into three sections:

1-will likely get accept by end of process
2-will get accept if group 1 doesn't fill class
3-have little/no chance of accept

... she told me im in group 2. not that i care so much because i love the school i already got into, but i wanted to share this with you guys... in case you cared

Sorry, but I SERIOUSLY doubt the credibility of this info.

The waitlist is a lot more fluid than that - everytime they take people off the waitlist they are rereviewing files. And in an attempt to make a very diverse class that usually replace one person with a similar person.

I do interviews and talk to admissions all the time, and they've never even told the med students something like that so I am fairly sure Gayle or Dr. Peterson wouldn't have told an applicant that.

They NEVER EVER tell people where they lie on the waitlist (they won't even tell the med students who interviewed them where someone lies on a waitlist). And frankly, I'm almost positive that's because no one lies anywhere on the waitlist. They choose the next person based on their ability to fill in the diversity that the person who dropped provided. So there is no way they told you you're in this supposed "category 2".

If you want to go to UCI guys - then tell them so. They are looking for a specific type of person and they are looking for people who want to be there. Don't stress about imaginary lists.

I wasn't trying to be rude, but thats just not the way the waitlist works here at UCI, and they never tell people where they are on the alternate list. No matter how hard people try to find out.

Besides, there's nothing TOO private about this info. I am the only one giving up any personal info here (my standing).

I was wrong in my statement below, the email was much less specific than I stated. I apologize for that here it is verbatim:

"We go back to the alternate list late-spring. Out of the approximately 280 students that ultimately will be accepted, about 100 are accepted after May 15th. We have only interviewed about 80 students and our alternate list is in its initial stages of forming. We do not rank the list but if I group the applicants into three groups I would say you are in the middle third to be considered when we return to the alternate list."

Thanks for clearing that up. That's giving more of a timeline than the likelihood of acceptance. They consider you in that order, some people will be passed over and others won't be.

I'm glad you like Jefferson, but if you did like UCI I wouldn't write it off as an impossibility just because she wrote that. The alternate list here doesn't make much numerical sense. 🙂

Today is the 3 month anniversary of my "pending review" status (complete on 8/21). Looks like I'll send an email today to check my status after sending some flowers to celebrate our 3 months together.

I submitted my secondary in July and have been pending review since late August. I actually got to talk to someone in the admissions office about it and they have told me that the reason for the wait is because the committee has met about my file but there was actually no decision made about my application. So they leave the pending review there because the committee will meet later on and decide progressively about the people with no decisions, so I'm sure you guys will hear something soon!!! We can all hang in there together

Today on a saturday I get a response saying that I have been invited for an interview but no decision has been made on my file. But online it says my application is still pending review, does anyone know what this could mean.
