I think the fact that there hasn't been any OOS movement is pretty crazy. I'm not really familiar with the process, but it just seems inevitable with candidates dropping to go to either their state or other out-of-state school. They are obviously over-enrolled with OOS students, which is nuts. But I still think its too early to make any assumptions. It seems like most schools don't formulate their wait-lists till the begining of June. I'm not giving up hope just yet.

Ohio is one of the few states that gives OOS students in state tuition after a year. Because of this many OOSers willl rank Ohio public schools higher than other OOS options because they can save 50k over 4 years...

Can't help but notice there are 4 Cinci vs. U of X threads at the top of this forum right now ...

Edit: Never mind, i see they are all pretty old. Oh well ...

As of Monday there was no movement, but the woman with admissions said that they are expecting movement to begin within the next two weeks. That could mean absolutely nothing, or that maybe candidates are steadily dropping their acceptances.

It is a terrible school. People should all drop out imo 😱 🙂

Thanks for the updates about movement.

hopefully she is right about spots opening up in the next couple of weeks. the wait is so painful. :scared:

Well since OSU's waitlist is starting to move maybe we will see some movement pretty soon too.

So true, so true...

Great. Is OSU above Cinci in the Ohio schools pecking order?

OSU is higher. At least when it comes to USNews research rankings Case and OSU are pretty much tied, and Cincy is #3

But they are all pretty close, ranking wise

Although it depends on what you're interested in. For instance if you're interested in Peds Cincinnati Children's residency is ranked #3 in the country (US N&WR) behind Harvard and CHOP. So if Peds is your thing you'll be doing your Peds rotations at one of the best training hospitals in the country.

True. Rankings are always subjective... I just used us news research rankings because its the easiest and most standardized.

As of today there is still no movement. Wow, I really didn't think I would be calling this late into June.

I spoke with Dr. Manuel here is the info he gave me:

There are 290 people on the waitlist (96 in the upper third). They have not moved people off the waitlist very much yet but they are expecting to make about 15 offers this week. They will know more about the status of the waitlist near the end of the month.

Thanks for the update.

I think someone posted earlier in this thread that they keep 150 in state and 150 out of state on the wait list.

yikes! that means there are 48 OOSers in the top 1/3. i'm in the middle 1/3 oos, so i think its safe to say my chances are not great

Thanks for the update ... that should make this week a bit more tense.

He didn't happen to mention how many of those were IS/OOS... or maybe the full names and addresses of the people they are offering?? 🙄

Ha ha ... gotta say, I really appreciate Cinci's admissions office; very open and logical.

Assuming its split down the middle 48 OOS and 48 IS (which it probably isn't) for each third, there will be candidates that have already made their decision elsewhere and haven't pulled off the waitlist (most likely OOSers). When I last talked to Dr. Manual, he said that they TYPICALLY have to make about 5 offers for every 1 candidate they pull off the waitlist.

Still holding on!

Only 1 out of 5 people on the WL would end up actually picking Cinci if offered a spot ???

Anybody know how long they would give you to scrape together a deposit?

Quick math: 15 spots this week * 5 offers / spot = 60 offers.

Too good to be true. But at least we have some information, albeit with a huge amount of uncertainty, that would lead us to be . . . dare I say it . . . optimistic.

You're sure its not 15 offers this week = 3 spots * 5 offers / spot ?

No, those 5 have already made another choice and just haven't dropped off Cincinnati's waitlist.

That would be way too misleading and would be assuming that it's a strict five offers per acceptance. Don't worry, I'm pretty sure they need 15 kids to go to UC this week.

15 * 5 = 75 (sorry to be that guy, but i had to)

if i had to guess, i'd guess that the 15 offers are actually 15 seats. if it was 15 offers for 3 seats why on earth would cincy have a waitlist of 200 students when they'd probably only need like 15 of them. imagine that 5 seats open per week for the next three weeks and each opening results in 5 offers. then at the end of three weeks we'd have another 75 offers made in addition to the 75 they'll be making this week.

so 150/290 waitlist seats would have been used by the end of the month...

this seems right, considering many med schools roll thru about 50% of their waitlists...

I got a laugh out of this. I'd have done the same thing.

econdr 1, me 0.

Hopefully, you'll be somewhere in the 65 - 75.

MNBV did say "offers," for what its worth, but i hope you guys are right ...

this gives me a little hope. it sure has taken a long time for them to get the waitlist moving.

One theory is that UCinci is going to make 15 offers this week, because they need 3 actual people. You're right that it doesn't make sense that they are banking on 1/5 of these people accepting and offering 15 spots hoping for only 3 people to say yes. It makes more sense that they need 15 people right now rather than 3.

The second theory is that UCinci is going to make 75 offers this week, because they need 15 actual people. Again, 75 offers this week means they are gambling that 4/5 will drop.

I think the real answer is neither of these, or both of them.

They need 15 actual people, but they are only going to make 15 (maybe even double that, 30) or so offers this week. 3 will accept, 12 will reject. 2 weeks later, they are going to make 12 offers, of which 3 will accept, 9 will reject. And so on. It may be that they make 75 offers eventually, but I don't think they are going to do that this week. This more conservative estimate is in line with the lack of movement we've seen so far. Also, I'd hate to be so optimistic as to imagine they'll be making 75 offers this week. I would much prefer to straddle the line so I don't fall too far when it does happens.

Oh yeah, thanks mnbv4184! Great work.

That's how it works. They will make 15 offers this week, then they give a week to those 15 candidates to respond/decide, and then make the remaining offers the next week, and so on.

Wow tensions are running high in these alternate discussions.

Does anyone know about what has happened in previous years? Has there been a lot of movement off the waitlist at UC? Such as Wright State I know has the reputation of moving a bit a faster on the list than other schools.

I know it varies from year to year, but there could be a typical pattern.

I am remembering from the interview I had with this info:
UC admits 2 for everyone 1 slot so they have a class size of about 150 they admit 300. They expect at least half to say no and then some.

When it comes time to draw from the alternates they go back to the committee and discuss people again and what the current class looks like, etc.

Maybe they didn't call any SDNers.

I think you're right... I called today and was told that they've made some offers already.

They told me it comes with an email alerting a status change and a phone call and you're given a week to respond (shortens through the summer)...

Any new news mnbv?

Just called -- the lady said the class was full once again but they are not sure what will happen in the future, and it's hard to give numbers. I submitted my reapplication a few days ago so I'm not holding my breath. She was really nice though...

Question, can you reapply to a school that you're still on the waitlist for right now?

I was told they have only made ten offers, but that could change at any moment.

I think it is probably best to start thinking plan B...
Especially if you are the right handed white male in state applicant type.

Did you all get an immunization requirement link added to the application status page?
