Interview invite for 11/17. Any advice?
Read up on the MMI and practice giving focused and concise answers to ethical questions. 🙂
Interview invite for 11/17. Any advice?
i just got an email, i've been accepted! I'm so excited this is my first (i hope) accepted decision. good luck to everyone else that is applying.
the MMI is nothing to stress about, just read a little bit about medical issues...type medical ethics in wikipedia.
you simply want the interviewer to know that you have thought about the medical profession and the major issues in medicine (like placebos, preventative vs. treatment medicine, etc) and you will be fine.
and fyi i was out of state, my application was complete late august and i received an interview invite in early october; my interview was oct 20 and i heard back nov 5 to give you an idea of turnaround time.
I got the e-mail too, but I've been waitlisted!! 🙁 🙁
I really love this school too!
Anyone know if the "Alternate list" is a waitlist proper, or will they continue to review other applications along with the alternate list to fill their class?
definitely a great school, it made me ignore the US news rankings...after interviewing at top 10 schools and then visiting cinci, it was surprising to see how great the campus and facilities are.
from what i remember, they said the alternate list is just like a waitlist and there is no specific rank for students. it is not a deferral. keep your head up you will probably get in later bro. send them a letter and tell them why you want to go there.
Just interviewed today. MMI, while stressful, was not nearly as bad as I thought. It's a great school. I love the new building. I've never seen anything like it. You'll know what I mean when you see it.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
I interview on Friday and am a bit nervous about the MMIs. Did you do practice questions? Could you give an idea of what topics they asked about?

I just wung it. The topics are basically public policy or ethical situations (medical and non-medical) and they ask you to discuss it with an interviewer for 8 minutes. You don't need any prior knowledge. If you're really itching to prepare, just google MMI and look at some sample prompts. But honestly, your best bet is to de-stress yourself so you're relaxed during the interview. It's not bad at all.
I second nontrad. I prepped a bit, but it really tests you ability to speak concisely and think through situations on the fly. Hopefully these things you may have already done in preparation for previous interviews, if you had any. MMI was stressful, but not so bad overall. More than anything go in relaxed and not flustered. Good luck.

Overall, how long was your interview day? I start at 7:45am and am just wondering when I'll be done. I'll be visiting family and just want to better plan some activities
Ahhhh. Now I know who you are too. 🙂
Thanks! This is only my second interview (the first one is the day before!). I've done some interview prep including some sample MMI questions I found online. I think I interview well and am a good speaker so hopefully it'll all work out.
just got a cinci invite, who wants my slot?

Sooo . . . please, please, please Cinci? Can I have wasteoftime's interview slot? 😀
Just a quick note. E-mails were sent out to the 10:30am interview section for 11/17, if anyone was wondering turnaround time. They meet on tuesdays and decide on 1/4th or more of the applicants who interviewed the previous week, and so forth. I got in!
Congrats! Me too!
Good job man. You've got quite a list of acceptances going.....
So I interviewed on the 17th, and still am waiting to here back from them? Should I try and contact them, or is this expected for wait time?

interviewed 11/21 in 8am group. Status change email just now.
Oos
woooooooooo first acceptance!
Interviewed there today. The MMI actually was kinda fun. Certainly not as stressful as I thought.
I wans't super impressed with the school though. The building is very pretty and new,b ut overallt hey seems a bit disorganized with the day. My student tour guide was completely unenthusiastic and basically took us in circles. Lack of traditional interview meant no interaction with faculty so I felt I didn't get a good handle ont heschool.
i actually had a very different experience. the day was organized and fast paced, we didn't do the same thing for too long. the financial aid presentation and curriculum overview were much more indepth than any other school I've interviewed at. The student tour guides were great! And I don't think the traditional interview gives students any special insight into what the school is like...some interviewers are good, others are terrible. in my opinion, the MMI really does test your ability to think on your feet and is a good test of your self-confidence. and i was most impressed by the campus buildings and hospitals...
last but not least, the average step 1 usmle at cinci is as high as most top 10 schools (234)
Yeah, I just think it was an off day. The financial aid person had an emergency, people that were supposed to show up at 1 were there at 11 - it was a bit hectic. Also, my student wasn't so great. I definitely am not discounting the school and, now that I'm acceptedi will definitely go back and take another look and hopefully get a better tour.
I did really like MMI, though.
It is hard to judge a school by its entrance, glass and atria which is why we have US news rankings.
While I liked the concept of MMI, I did not enjoy the way some of my interviewers dealt with it. They kept asking me the same question over and over again and I reached dead end situation with a couple of them, which is why I think I got waitlisted. Cincy is a decent school with a median MCAT of 32 and the buildings are nice. I wan't impressed when the students made some catcalls when we walked through the classroom. I would put about as much faith in USnews as I would in a school's architecture.

Can anyone verify this? I wasn't aware it was that high.., isnt that around the 85th percentile or so....
