Hopefully this week. The office, upon return from break, was inundated with scheduling some of the last interviews; hopefully they've gotten to your cards by now and the replies are in the mail. 🙂
Have any of you guys started to fill out the FAFSA? If so, are you guys including information about your parents for UIC? I wasn't sure if UIC was a school that wanted this information.
It's a professional school, so you're not required to provide parental information. That said, you do need to if you're looking for need-based institutional scholarships.
Why would you need your parents' info? What if they don't want to provide that? (Haven't asked yet but would rather not).

Just rules that FAFSA set I guess. If your parents don't want to provide that, I suppose that would disqualify you from need-based aid, but you'd still be able to qualify for loans.
ChichiMD, Chicago!! That's great! can you tell us when you turned in your card and when it said they received it. We thought we'd get it today but instead we got a letter rejecting us from our state school. Darnet. But hey, we are VERY grateful for our UIC acceptance!
ChiChi are you from chicago/illinois?
Anyone sent in their petition letter yet? I think I may start on mine before the start of school next week. maybe.....maybe...
I've been procrastinating too... I think I'll start mine this week as well. Do you think it matters whether we get it in early or late? Does getting it in early signify more need/desire for a reassignment?
this has probably been said before, but once they make a decision, we have to wait for the mail to know what that decision is, right
thanks zipmedic. do you know where the link to that thread is? I did a search but didn't find it. Thanks again!Historically, if your status on the status page changed to something like "A decision was made on <date>. You will receive further correspondence in the mail. If you don't receive anything in 7-10 days, please call the office," it meant you were admitted.
...there does come a point in the process, though, where that status change starts to appear for those who are receiving rejections, as opposed to being reviewed the following month. You'd have to check last year's UIC thread to see when that shift started to happen.
I spoke with the Director of Admissions the other day and he said the committee has been very conservative with the number of acceptances they give out each month due to an unusually high number of qualified applicants, so maybe we're still early enough in the game that such a status change is something to be excited over. 🙂

does anyone when the committee is meeting this month? is it today or next thursday?
zipmedic, you never replied to my personal message??? whats up with that???
Can anyone give me any advice on the types of questions I could be asked at my interview (Chicago campus - March)
What does it mean when they do closed-file interview?
Is the interview in groups of 3 or 3 interviewers or 1-on-1 with 3 interviewers?
Does UIC focus on current events in Chicago, ethical issues in healthcare, politics, medical technology...??
I would appreciate any insight!! THANKS 🙂
Closed file interview means that the person interviewing you (at least at uic) has only your amcas personal statement and the answers you gave to the essay questions on your uic secondary. They do not know your GPA or MCAT score or that kind of stuff. No one is going to ask you why you (hypothetically speaking of course) got a "C' in physics (which is kind of nice).
It is a 1 on 1 interview with 3 different people. I had a pHD, an MD and some kind of undergrad advisor lady (she was the toughest).
As for current events, different folks different strokes they say. The most current event question (so to speak) I got was "name the prolems our healthcare is facing currently". Some other people I interviewed with had more intricate questions with very short tempered interviewers. If I were you and especially since I am interviewing in march, I would bring my A+ game. Know EVERYTHING about the school, read up on current events and know your application WELL. Go through the UIC interview questions thread. I personally loved it.
Goodluck dear!
I got asked if healthcare was a right or a privilege and then was asked how I would fix the current health care crisis! 😱
does anyone know if the committee responds to petitions...like say if i stated it were to change my choice of school, if they would notify me before may? i dont want to choose UIC to only find out im stuck at rockford! 😱
i didn't. i've already checked 3 times today :/ when did you interview?Anyone get a status change yet? Not that I'm antsy or anything...
Maybe ADCOM postponed their meeting to next Thursday?
First off, Rockford isn't a bad place to be. Second, they'll absolutely respond to petitions. You'll need a much more compelling reason than "I think Rockford sucks and I'm mad," though. They're looking for things like, ""My fiancé is getting her Ph.D. in Chicago," "I want to be near my sick father, who lives in Chicago," or even "My family and entire support structure is in Chicago." It's got to be something significant like that. If they were just going to move you to the city because it's your strong preference, they'd have assigned you there to begin with, don't you think?
Simply saying, "I'll go to a different school if you don't put me in Chicago," isn't going to cut it. They won't respond favorably to a threat; statistically, you need the spot more than they need you. If this is truly make-it-or-break-it, then perhaps you should consider your other options before the May 15th deadline. Either way, good luck. 🙂
