Hey Guys,
I was accepted at UIC in November but since I interviewed in Peoria I just took the tour at Chicago today. I jotted down some notes during the orientation session for those of you still awaiting decisions or site placements. I'll just give a point by point breakdown of what Mr. Girotti, the associate dean, said.
1. The Chicago campus usually fills up in January but this year filled in December.
2. This admissions cycle has been very unusual in that nearly 100% of those accepted at UIC have accepted the offer.
3. Site placement is usually first come first served but since everyone is taking their acceptance offers and also choosing Chicago, they have had to be more discriminating in who they assign where.
4. UIC is nearly 100% full at all their campuses which, again, is strange for being this early in the admissions cycle. The dean said they aim for an M1 class of 300, but they usually accept 600 because some students will go to other schools. The dean said they will continue to offer straight acceptances until at least March.
5. The next adcom meeting is tomorrow (the 22nd).
6. If no decision is reached on your application after you interview, your app will be considered at each subsequent meeting.
7. Since everyone is taking UIC's offer, the adcom is being "much more" selective in granting admissions. Thus, those put on hold will most likely have to wait until May, when an official waitlist is generated, to see any movement on their app.
8. The dean said you can send in you site petition letters at any time, but they might not get around to reviewing it until May or June.
Hope this helps.
