thanks! im not threating them, i was just wondering if my petition would be considered before may 15, but from what it sounds like, probably not. if so, i guess i have a hard decision to make! 😕

Unfortunately, you're right. They won't look at petitions until after 5/15. I hope it works out! 🙂

My status page just changed withing the last few hours from evaluation not complete to "Decision Pending." I interviewed in December. Does this mean that I won't hear a decision until the next adcom meeting or later?

Go check your status pages!

Sounds to me like they are meeting next week... If they met yesterday seems like people would be on here already with Final Decision messages...

I got decision pending also.

It takes a day or two for status pages to change after the committee meets. "Decision pending" seems to be the "You've been interviewed, we have all the info. we need to make a decision, so just sit back and wait until we make it," status.

Ok this might be the wrong timing or place for this but i have been looking at apts around the area for chicago campus and i am beginning to cringe!!

With the student buget they have, I have to live on the streets!!

$8300 is plenty.

Is it weird that I still haven't received my site placement yet? I'm out of state, but still...

My friend who got accepted this last round got her site placement last week here in the DC area...

If it's been more than two weeks since they -received- it, give the office a call and make sure it didn't get lost on the way.

Do we have confirmation that this month's adcom meeting is on the 27th? Does this mean we will get news at the end of this week or beginning of next week? What is the notification method? What are the possible results (accept/reject/waitlist/hold)? Why haven't I looked through this tread start to finish to find this information?

Gracias

No, you don't have confirmation in the form of official word. Anecdotally, since no one's status seems to have changed, it seems likely they have postponed the meeting until the 27th. You'd probably not see any status changes until Monday, but anything's possible.

The rest was explained at the interview during the Dean's presentation. Notification will be in writing (large envelope) for direct acceptance. Watch your status page. If your application moves from "Decision pending" back to "Application in process", the committee was unable to reach a decision and you'll be considered again at the next meeting. U of I doesn't really do "holds" and the waitlist won't be generated until the class has been filled.

And yes, why haven't you read the thread to find this information?

Thanks Zip.

So an acceptance/rejection means no status change + snail mail. A no decision means status change.

No...

Acceptance = status change + snail mail

No decision means no status change + e-mail for deferral to next meeting.

No.

My bad, but since there is an e-mail probably not that big of a deal...

I GOT THE CHICAGO TRACK!! AHHHHH!!! But Im OOS and UIC is soooo expensive 🙁 but its still one of my top choices

Congrats on Chicago! I'm OOS and got Chicago too. I loved UIC and it's still my top choice...trying to find scholarship money to cut down the cost of tuition.

false, no decision means stay in decision pending and u get an email. it happened to me last month.

Could someone clarify (maybe someone who has interviewed recently) as to when the next admissions committee meeting is?

I know that it is usually end of the month on Thursdays. Did it change or will it go into next week since it is almost the end of the application cycle?

It is, but you can always get, as was alluded to earlier, scholarships and sometimes they will give you an OOS tuiitin waiver and you only have to pay in-state. I am not OOS but I do know people who have done this, however it should be noted that this is done more for URM's. Just a heads up for all of you, most likely, California folk. Hope to see many of you in the Fall!

Hey Guys,

I was accepted at UIC in November but since I interviewed in Peoria I just took the tour at Chicago today. I jotted down some notes during the orientation session for those of you still awaiting decisions or site placements. I'll just give a point by point breakdown of what Mr. Girotti, the associate dean, said.

1. The Chicago campus usually fills up in January but this year filled in December.
2. This admissions cycle has been very unusual in that nearly 100% of those accepted at UIC have accepted the offer.
3. Site placement is usually first come first served but since everyone is taking their acceptance offers and also choosing Chicago, they have had to be more discriminating in who they assign where.
4. UIC is nearly 100% full at all their campuses which, again, is strange for being this early in the admissions cycle. The dean said they aim for an M1 class of 300, but they usually accept 600 because some students will go to other schools. The dean said they will continue to offer straight acceptances until at least March.
5. The next adcom meeting is tomorrow (the 22nd).
6. If no decision is reached on your application after you interview, your app will be considered at each subsequent meeting.
7. Since everyone is taking UIC's offer, the adcom is being "much more" selective in granting admissions. Thus, those put on hold will most likely have to wait until May, when an official waitlist is generated, to see any movement on their app.
8. The dean said you can send in you site petition letters at any time, but they might not get around to reviewing it until May or June.

Hope this helps.

ok you officially freaked me out lol. thanks for the info though.

Best of Luck to everyone being reviewed today. Meanwhile, I'm trying to figure out my chances of successfully petitioning for the Chicago campus. I have a good reason but does anyone know ~the number or % of people who are able to change their site assignments to Chicago?

Definitely news I didn't need, GreatGuy. I shouldn't be reading these forums.

3 waitlists, 2 no post-interview news, 0 acceptances. I need this one =0.

Hope springs eternal.

I hope they dont include the number of times I access the Status Update page in my file during my review. Otherwise they will think I'm crazy. 😉

It depends how many people drop. Obviously the better the reason, the better the chance. But you also want lots of Chicago people to decide to go elsewhere for the best shot.

Yup. I am Captain Obvious.

Good luck!

hah im currently in tokyo, it is 6 am local time, and after a night of going out, i am checking viciously(public transportation stops from midnight to 5 am... which means u have to party til 5 am duh). i happen to leave in about 6 hours to go back to chicago, and i would to love to have a response before then.... unfortunately last month we got the responses friday morning, so we may have to wait til then. good luck to us!

Yeah, it'll take day or so (possibly even until Monday) before the status updates are all in. Good luck! And to those worrying about petitions, they will start considering them after May 15th (not June) and they are considered based on merit, not the order in which they receive them.

Would you or Zipmedic mind expanding on the OOS tuition waiver? Would they look at merit, financial need, or mainly URM status?

I was told that was ONLY for URM. Correct me if I'm wrong Zipmedic, but that is what I heard...

I'm not familiar with the OOS tuition waiver, but I'll ask about it. I'd imagine it's uncommon.

I was told by a 4th year there that it was just for URM, but that it was for all OOS URM... So for whatever thats worth...

So what happens if too few people give up their seats to go somewhere else and they have more acceptees than seats available? They can't possibly take our seats away can they? I mean is it a binding contract that once we accept and send in our deposit and receive confirmation of site placement, we are guaranteed a seat?

While I don't have hard evidence, I do have anecdotal evidence that you are correct in your assumptions. Drexel overaccpted previously. They offered students 10k to deffer for a year, but did not rescind acceptances. I highly doubt that would happen.

has anyone had a status change within the past 2 days? i though they were meeting yesterday...

No status change yet...here's hoping that we get the 'unofficial' word today...but zipmedic said they might not finish updating until Monday or so.

So, who is going to bite the bullet and call?

I can not believe how neurotic I have become during this process.
