This isn't my situation, but I'm curious. If you have a track someone else wants, and the other person has a track that you want, can you tell the admissions office that you want to trade?

Do people go to class all day then study 4-6hrs at night then sleep? I've been reading a lot about people's daily schedule, or advice to M1s and it seemed like people were generally in class just 8-12 on most days. I don't mean to sound whiny, but just want to embrace myself if this is really what we are facing everyday!

That's the schedule. Classes are optional (except ECM). You should be able to figure out early on which classes you need to go to and which you don't. I hardly ever set foot on campus, save for interviews, exams, etc. It depends on your learning style, but yes, classes are pretty much 8:30-4 every day.

So is the committee meeting tomorrow or next week?
 
So, I was going to my Registration Eligibility and I noticed that there are no holds, my academic standing is good, and my student status permits registration. Does this mean I do not have to take a 3rd behaviorial science class? I thought I only took two and was registered at a local community college. It will be nice to save $300.

I was going to call tomorrow, but I figured the office is going to be super busy if the committee meets and Second Day approaching. Zipmedic? 🙂

Take the third behavioral science. (And remember two of the three must be in the same discipline - i.e., one anthro, one sociology, and one psychology does not meet the requirement.) Read your letter carefully - your offer of admission is contingent upon you completing any outstanding prerequisite coursework.

Admissions prerequisites don't show in the Self Service application; they're two completely separate entities. UIC is strict with this requirement and will withdraw your offer of admission if you don't meet their pre-requisite courses. You'll start getting e-mails about it in June or July. Best already be enrolled in a course that will be completed by the first day of orientation.
 
Do political science courses count for this requirement?

It's not classified as a behavioral/social science on AMCAS, but it's worth calling the office. It may depend on the specific content of the course. They DO accept courses not traditionally considered social science, depending on what the course was about. Let us know what they say!
 
Hey Zipmed. I called but was put on hold and eventually hung up. Wouldn't they have contacted us by now if there was a problem with our pre-reqs? I was looking at my AMCAS courses and I see they selected 4 as behavioral and social sciences. 1 was econ. 101, another was psyc 101, and the two others were social issues in america, and middle eastern humanities. these last two were kind of sociology courses. my question is how strict they are in regards to accepting classes in the beh/soc science catagory? i was a freakin history major, for god's sake. my whole major involved the social sciences. thanks.

Why should the university contact you? It's your responsibility to make sure you have all your prereqs completed before you matriculate. Don't you want to play it safe? Call them back.

I definitely agree with playing it safe but they DID contact me via email about a missing prereq. I got the email a day after I got my site placement card. My advice is the same as zips, call them back.

Neone have any update on whether the meeting was today.... I mean ive already waiting 5 months... 3 more weeks isnt gonna kill me (to may 15) but still....

I wasn't on campus today, sorry. I'll try to remember to ask tomorrow during Second Look.
 
Maybe statuses didn't get updated today because the people in the office were occupied with second look stuff.

That they were. The office was closed, so if they didn't do it yesterday, it'll be Monday at the earliest.

With how how helpful you are in these forums, you weren't nearly as vocal as I expected you to be zip...

In fact, most of the talking was done by gunner-derm girl, Will Ferrell, and Christopher Turk. (don't anyone tell me you weren't at least thinking it) 😀

It was nice of all the students to be there and volunteer their time like that. zip what are the "requirements" (if any) to do such things?

Couldn't get a word in edgewise, hence why I got up and left. A panel of 15 students was a poor idea. You should've been on my tour. 😉

This is me sounding paranoid, but does does the Chicago track give a "better" education than the UPR track? What is the point of having two tracks?

I believe the education is basically the same, and you don't have to worry about getting a "lesser" education on the UPR track.

Also, I am under the impression that they have multiple tracks in order to educate more physicians for Illinois. You can only have so many students on one campus, and so in order to graduate as many Illinois physicians as they can they started more campuses. Plus, since it is a state school, it allows students to study at a campus that is closer to family, or closer to where they hope to practice.

Just my take!

Right. Medical school in the U.S. is medical school in the U.S. And DrJD is also right with his follow-up; just how many students is a single campus supposed to support?
 
Does anyone have the link to the courses we have to take each year that also indicates the number of hours each course is? I can't find the one that says the hours but i remembering reading one in the past that did.

Does the number of hours mean something substantial to you? Med school is hard and you won't be able to use the number of credit hours to gauge how hard it'll be. Whatever your motivation, here is Chicago's information:

First semester, you'll take:

Essentials of Clinical Medicine I (2.5 hrs)
Physiology I (6 hrs)
Gross Human Anatomy (Year Long - 3.5 hrs this sem)
Medical Cell & Tissue Biology (Year Long - 2 hrs this sem)
Medical Biochemistry (3 hrs)
Medical Nutrition (2 hrs)

Total: 19 hrs

Second semester (not in chronological order):

Gross Human Anatomy (remaining 3.5 hrs)
Medical Cell & Tissue Biology (remaining 2 hrs)
Medical Human Neuroanatomy (2 hrs)
Physiology II (4 hrs)
Essentials of Clinical Medicine II (2.5 hrs)
Introduction to Molecular Medicine/Genetics (2 hrs)
Fundamentals of Immunology/Microbiology (3 hrs)
Brain & Behavior (1 hr)
Human Development (1 hr)

Total: 21 hrs (40 hours for M1 year)

Hahaha! Yea that Will Ferrell guy was OUT OF CONTROL!! I just kept giggling to myself the whole time. The best part of the whole day was my free water bottle 🙂 (dont judge me.)

And although the international lunch was a great idea, I dont know what i ate that made me break out in hives 5 mins later. was a terrible afternoon!

Thanks. And No I didn't want to use the hours to gauge how hard it will be. I know it will be hard. I was just curious about the hours of classtime. Do you know if these hours are credit hours or actual hours for that class/week or what? I know sometimes credits do not equal number of hours in class necessarily.

Those are credit hours. You will spend many many more hours in class and in the labs than that.

...what do you guys think? Is the absence of a date anything significant?
